Stayed Feb 16, 2020It was lovely our stay here. It is quite expensive but worth it. The only thing that felt strange was the ground/house keeper and his wife accommodation, directly next to host... It was a shack, which was in such contrast to the luxury of the house we stayed, it made me feel quite uncomfortable, but that was just my personal feeling.

Stayed Aug 16, 2019We spent 1 night at the lake cottage and then 6 at one of Sonali's other properties (South Point Abbey) that is located a short distance away on the beach. The Lake Cottage is a very quaint cottage, situated on the most beautiful lake. There are monkeys in the trees and lot of wildlife to watch. The cottage comes with a caretaker, houseboy, cleaner and a chef (if required). The chef cooked us the most delicious meal for our arrival and we were looked after very well. Sonali also has a number of other properties around the area and she was so generous in allowing us to go view a couple of them as they were situated next door to the beach house we then stayed at. She really does have a house to suit any requirement, be it wanting seclusion (lake cottage), rustic charm (South Point Abbey), Open plan living on the beach (South Point Villa) or if you have a huge family or want to holiday with other families then take a look at South Point Ocean. Every member of staff we met (even at the houses we were only viewing) greeted us like family and we immediately felt at home. A special mention also to Prageeth and Nilusha at South Point Abbey who are an absolute credit to Sonali. If you look at staying at one of the beach houses, be prepared to say WOW as the gates open from the main road and you see the view you will wake up to each morning. I cannot rate Sonali and her houses enough as we had the most perfect stay. We would not hesitate in booking again. We did not want to leave.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969We have just returned from a fantastic fortnight at South Point Cottage. The cottage is on Koggala Lake. It is a 3 bedroom property (2 with fans, one with a/c). We travelled as a couple, so only used one room. We were met at our taxi, as you cannot drive up to cottage; it is a short walk- 2 mins max. Then you descend into paradise. The cottage is set in its own grounds, with a swimming pool, and a jetty.Loads of natural wood has been used throughout the cottage and terrace, it gives a lovely feel to the place. The bathroom is huge and has a rainfall shower, bliss. The garden is well tended but natural which means lots of interesting wildlife paying a visit. The biggest asset this place has is the staff. They make you feel so special. We had some fantastic conversations even with the language differences; we even had pictures of all the wildlife drawn for us! They made our last night so good with a guitarist playing and singing western and Sri Lankan songs. Some of the highlights included: Fishing from the jetty at dusk. Memorable. Boat trip round the lake including Bat Island and a visit to a cinnamon stick maker. Discovering all the wildlife. The sleep. I have never slept so well, or so deeply. Eating fresh coconuts, watching a man climb the incredibly tall trees with just a tiny rope for assistance. The food, the chef is brilliant. Use the suggested menu as a guide, and leave it to him, we did not have any food that was less than great. Deep fried ice cream is a revelation! Having a lovely safe driver, makes a real difference in SL. Watching the local fishermen in their canoes, and buying a crab from one, and having it cooked for us. Watching the seaplane take off every day. We used this to fly back to CMB as we could not face the long drive back pre long haul flight. It is around £40 per person, would recommend. The cottage is in a small village, next to a Buddhist temple, with a small school. You really are off the beaten track; however you are well placed for exploring Galle Matara, Mirissa, tea plantation etc. We spent so many happy days at this cottage, some days not leaving the grounds, it is so tranquil. The South Point People also run an education building in the village, we had some lovely outfits made by the ladies there, very reasonable prices – (tip-take an item of clothing as a pattern). Ayurvedic massages at the cottage, they were so relaxing. I recommend this place to get away from it all, hope to return soon.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Our famliy of four (two young children) stayed at South Point Cottage in March 2011. From our first point of contact via email and telephone, the owner and staff of this rental were attentive and provided first class service. The cottage itself is beautiful, set right on the lake with a nice pool just off the veranda, surrounded by trees and animals and blooming flowers. It's just breath-taking -- but the true treat is the warm staff and spirit of hospitality. From the driver to the houseboys to the groundskeeper to the chef, we experienced nothing but excellent and discreet care. Our children were in heaven with all the attention and cried when they had to leave our new friends at the end of the week! Using the facilities at the seaside properties, a short walk away, was a nice touch as well. Our driver delivered us safely to our tours of the turtle hatchery, tea estate, spice garden, batik shop, blow hole, and Yala National Park. We were so well-taken care of, and the food was out of this world too! If you want a personal touch in an amazing setting full of lovely people for a VERY reasonable cost, rent South Point! We will be back . . .

Stayed Dec 31, 1969We stayed in South Point Cottage from 09th to 17th March 2011. This nice Cottage has a very quiet and peaceful atmosphere and is located at the Koggala Lake, 5 min drive to the sea. Even if the lake is not good for swimming, you have a pool to refresh yourself. However, we got the possibility to use the facilities (beach, terrace, pool…) of the nearby South Point Villa. Also at this villa we got a very warm welcome every time we were there, for instance delicious fresh made fruit juice. To take full advantage of a relaxing stay in South Point Cottage you should book a chef. In this case you are able to have a great experience of fresh and home made delicious Sri Lankan meals and of a great hospitality. Try the Sri Lankan curry! This will lead to a table full with a lot of different and very tasteful dishes. Everybody – owners, manager, chef and other staff – was doing the very best to make our stay as nice as any possible. So we want to say: Thank you very much!
