The kitchen area is fully equipped with full size electric range, refrigerator and microwave. All necessary cooking and dining utensils are provided. This property is a Saturday thru Saturday rental.
I wish I could give Location and neighborhood more than 5 stars. The studio is beautifully situated on the quiet side of MDI and has *amazing* views east over the sound. It was a total joy to wake up each morning having breakfast on the porch -- watching birds and boats come and go. The studio itself had everything we needed to be comfortable for the entire week.
Very nice stay here...cabin is complete with everything..i did feel could of been little cleaner..toilet was not completely clean we had to clean some marks off and receipts from previous people on floor by bed.....bed sheets kinda dingy but otherwise fantastic!!
Excellent small cottage, perfect for one or two people, terrific views, near to many shops and restaurants in Soithwest Harbor and a 30 minute drive to Bar Harbor.
2nd time staying here and enjoyed it immensely. Can’t beat the view and it is peaceful and quiet. Bear in mind that the cottage is basically one big room; the only privacy inside is the bathroom which is very small. The interior pictures do not do it justice.
This cozy cottage was in an excellent quiet location to explore Acadia National Park. It is on the “quiet side” of the park and you are well insulated from crowds and traffic noise. The views from the patio are beautiful and the ever changing rolling of the fog makes each day’s view unique. The bed was very comfortable and there was a good amount of clothes drawer space. A few minor drawbacks were that there was nowhere to hang a few items of clothing as the wardrobe cabinet was filled with cleaning supplies, there was not a working empty cabinet to store food, the shower is very small which makes it a bit difficult to wash up after a muddy hike or bike, and there were limited hooks to dry out equipment and clothing after exploring the park. However even with these drawbacks I would certainly come back to stay and the positives definitely outweighed the drawbacks. We definitely appreciated that Skywater was pet friendly and there was hose to wash off muddy paws outside and plenty of space in the living room to set up our kennel/dog bed. Michael was easy to contact and there was great communication throughout our stay.
We loved our stay at Skywater. The views from every window of the cottage cannot be beat. We were able to watch shorebirds, lobstermen and deer through the windows and from the large back porch. The location was perfect for our daily hikes and just a quick scenic drive to Bar Harbor for food (if you visit during off season, be prepared for just a few restaurants to be open on any given day). We made good use of the kitchen which had all we needed cookware wise. There are several local grocery stores and markets on MDI, and the cottage is the coziest place to cook and relax after a long day in Acadia. Check in was easy, and the cottage was pretty well stocked. I would have loved some restaurant/market recommendations in the guest book, but we managed to find what we needed. This is a pet friendly location which we love (though we didn't bring our two pups this trip), and there was some pet hair we swept up after we arrived. Not a huge deal but something to be aware of if you are allergic. Otherwise, the cottage was clean and updated since the listing pictures. Wifi was great and TV had all the steaming apps. We would absolutely come back! This was our third trip to Maine this year and by far our favorite stay.
The beauty and simplicity of Michael's Skywater Cottage would have pleased Thoreau who described Walden as Skywater. My husband Mike and I had no need for television or internet with the wildlife display we enjoyed from the deck: 5 shy deer nibbling on windfall apples, the old man grunts of climbing porcupines searching for higher hanging fruits, diving loons, a curious seal, and nervous chipmunks scurrying across the lawn. We picked and peeled a potful of some of the best tart apples while we watched their antics, simmering it slowly with maine maple syrup to create a fragrant autumn sauce. We cooked. We grilled. Eagles wheeled overhead while we kayaked. The weather was glorious. The books were plentiful and the view was spectacular. We drove to Southwest Harbor for more books from the sale cart in front of the library and to Notch Bakery for tasty pastries and, bagels and bread We can't wait to return to Skywater Cottage. Sky water. It needs no fence. Nations come and go without defiling it. It is a mirror which no stone can crack, whose quicksilver will never wear off, whose gilding Nature continually repairs; no storms, no dust, can dim its surface ever fresh; -- a mirror in which all impurity presented to it sinks, swept and dusted by the sun's hazy brush -- this the light dust-cloth -- which retains no breath that is breathed on it, but sends its own to float as clouds high above its surface, and be reflected in its bosom still. - Walden, Henry David Thoreau
The Skywater cottage was a serene getaway on the Somes Sound. The property had everything we needed and more, including a two person kayak which we made good use of. The property has been updated since the photos, and is very cozy with modern amenities. Great location and only a short trip to all of MDI’s natural pleasures. Thanks to the property owner and manager for a seamless stay!
Delightful stay! The pictures do not do this property justice. We had the most relaxing time here and hope to stay again in the future.
Can not say enough wonderful things about Skywater. The weather during my week on Mount Desert Island was terrible - thanks Hurricane Fiona - but no worries. Relaxing by the fire, experiencing the ever changing panorama of Somes Sound, Parkman and Norumbega Mountains, cooking, working a jigsaw puzzle. When I did venture out to Bar Harbor I was so glad to get out of there. Insanity! Stay on the Quiet Side. You won't regret it.
The property was the perfect little cottage. The owner was great. The pictures don't do it justice. They have done some updating since they last took pictures. We had everything we needed and more. If you want privacy this is for you. It is on the South side of the Island so it is very quiet. We would stay here again. '
Absolutely gorgeous location. Cottage has everything and more than you need.
Really enjoyed this place. It is clean, comfortable, and has a great view.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here! It was just perfect for a couple. Location was fantastic! Super close to Bar Harbor and Acadia but nice and quiet. The view from the cottage was amazing, I loved sitting out on the deck every morning with my coffee watching the lobster fishermen check their traps. We would absolutely stay here again!
This space was perfect for my boyfriend and I. One of our favorite places we have stayed. Studio is well set up and appointed. View is amazing.
This property was absolutely fantastic. I was so comfortable there that it was hard to leave. The property in person is even better than the photos. It was very quiet, tranquil, and serene. The property was well stocked with supplies and the check in process was very convenient. I would highly recommend this property. I definitely plan to return.
Lovely cottage with a wonderful view. The pictures don’t do it justice. We had our morning coffee on the deck every morning just savoring the view and the serenity. This is a studio cottage and as such the only private area is the bathroom which is very small. Host had provided a lot of essentials and all the linens and towels were either new or barely new. We would stay here again.
My husband, dog and I loved our stay at skywater. The cabin is small, but perfect for us. The views are breath taking. I loved sitting on the back deck in the e sun in the morning and the back deck in the afternoon. There is privacy and stars, sunrises and sunsets and we enjoyed the boats and wildlife. Mike was a great communicator. We loved it!
