We enjoyed a fantastic vacation filled with kayaking, bonfires, and fun family time. Kids loved the puzzles and books provided by our wonderful hosts and everyone had a great time playing games. Definitely recommend this spot for your next family trip.
I enjoyed our stay at this cottage. It was very nice and four adults and four kids under nine fit well. The lake is small but that made it east to navigate with the four kayaks and paddle boat which came with the rental. The hosts were very accommodating and communicated well. The location is a bit remote and the town of Big Rapids does not have much to offer. If you are looking for a quiet getaway this is a great option.
Carol and Sean are the best hosts. I could just stop there. Communication with them from the beginning when we booked until yesterday when we got home was perfect, like chatting up an old friend. The property is charming, spacious, and comfortable on the inside. On the outside, it feels like you're in the UP, yet somehow you're just 50 miles north of GR, 6 miles from a Meijer (shout out to Samantha at Shipt), and 4 miles from a proper village-like downtown and major medical facility (in case of emergency). The lake is cool and refreshing, the grounds meticulous landscaped, the porch swings unbeatable, and the wildlife impressive (a birder's delight, eagles, ducks, turtles, fish etc). I don't even enjoy being outdoors and still I spent the entirety of our stay during the day and evening outside. Bonfire pit is well supplied with wood, roasting sticks, and pie makers. The garage by the lake has every game and floating device you need and a boat is available for rent making this a very convenient property. The screened in porch, fully stocked kitchen, and enormous gas grill make this place just like home. Beds were comfy, showers hot, towels fluffy. A little more living room furniture would have come in handy for us in the evening with 5 adults and a kiddo in town, but we absolutely got by without incident using the dining room chairs, to play games and watch some British crime dramas before bed. A worry-free, affordable vacay is within reach here. Thanks Carol and Sean!
We have been taking Michigan vacations for many years but had never been to Big Rapids. We loved the property and the town. The beautiful log home was easy to get to, and enough distance from town to feel private. The beach and the yard and the big porch room were fantastic. The house was clean and easy to navigate. We had 6 people on this trip and the house held us easily. Carol was a great host, checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed before and during the stay. A great visit and vacation!
This well cared for home has much to offer families with young children…a sandy beach, very shallow waters to play in, sand toys, puzzles, indoor and yard games, a spacious back room with a foosball table and a large yard to play in. They have kayaks and a four-seater paddle boat to enjoy on the calm waters. Our family enjoyed the pontoon and fishing. It’s a small lake, but peaceful and quiet. Highly recommend this cottage!
We had a great stay! Property was great! Plenty of room and all the necessities were provided. Would definitely come back again! Fishing, pontoon, kayaks, and yard activities were great!
I’d like to thank Carol and Sean for our very relaxing stay. The house was as described and the lake was very calm and relaxing. The property is spacious and the house is very comfortable. We enjoyed some nice sunsets and soothing bonfires at night. The house is also laid out well and very comfortable. Carol and Sean were stellar with communication before and during our stay. We would definitely recommend this retreat for families or small groups looking to get away and relax.
The home is beautiful and right on the lake. We enjoyed local biking; fishing, boating, and kayaking on the lake; having our coffee and watching the birds on the porch, and making s'mores on the outdoor fire. Nice place to spend time together.
Everything was perfect, enough fun activities to keep 5 children under the age of 11 entertained for a week, highly recommend this house for a great family vacation!!
A great location with access to grocery stores and restaurants within a short driving distance. The property is on a large lot so you never feel confined. The cottage is amazing, with 4 large bedroom, large living/dining room, and galley kitchen with plenty of storage. Our kids enjoyed playing on the foosball table located on the enclosed back sunroom. Our family normally looks for a cottage with a pontoon boat and the one at this cottage was in good shape and operated flawlessly. Owners Carol and Sean were very helpful and checked in with us to ensure everything was to our satisfaction. If there was any negative part of this review it would be the softness of the beds. Our family is use to firmer mattresses (just our personal preference).
Your welcome message said this was a place to make memories...and that we did. From swimming to kayaking to peddle boating to endless fishing to s'moring to your welcoming touches...this is a special place. This was our first family vacation in three years and it was the perfect place for our family to be together. Together is a good thing to be...making memories. Many thanks...many blessings. The Iding Family
I’m tempted to say it’s not great so we can keep it to ourselves!! But I couldn’t do that to Carol and Sean as they were wonderful hosts. They have thought of everything to make their home comfortable for your family. Games, movies, yard games, the boats and a cozy kitchen that has everything you could need for meals. Big Rapids is just a quick jaunt for anything you need as there is a Meijer and a Walmart. Traverse City is just about 1.5 hours if you wanted to day trip. I really could go on all day about this wonderful home and people who own it.
The Cottage on Lavender Cove far exceeded our hopes for our first whole family vacation with our two married children and babies. It was a great layout for both our under 2 year old grandchildren to take naps and enjoy the big yard for wagon rides and playing in the sand at the clear water beach, to our married children to kayak, paddle boat, fish, swim, relax and. read. We also enjoyed the daily boat rides on the pontoon. Carol and Sean were so quick to get back with us on any matter before, during, and after our trip. We also enjoyed all the yard games and equipment that was for our use. Bonfire and s’mores always ended out our day on this beautiful quiet lake. The house was supplied with every detail that we would ever need and the layout was perfect for all of us including our family dog. Looking forward to when we can return. Thank you for helping us make some special memories. The Shanks’ Family
