Comfortable country decor highlights a 2nd floor view of the secluded farmstead including summer vegetable gardens, outdoor cats, and an Aronia berry orchard. A mile's worth of hiking or silent winter sports trails meander throughout the property; perfect for discovering songbirds, wildlife; unwinding & connecting with nature. Nearby tiny rural towns host seasonal events; enhancing the pastoral & bucolic atmosphere. The rolling hills offer rewarding biking experiences.
Lovely setting, friendly host, reasonably priced!
This was a wonderful place to stay and unwind for a couple days! It’s a beautiful, quiet area, with access to several things in a short radius. Everything was exactly as shown in the pictures. Plenty of towels, linens, and practically everything you could want for the kitchen. (I brought a bottle of wine but forgot a stopper—there was one in the drawer.) The host was easy to communicate with and quick with a response. There was also a binder with information about everything within the site.
We absolutely loved our stay at this property! It's great for a couple or small family (we have one child, a tween). The location was perfect for fall, every drive was stunning! There are so many charming towns nearby, and we found a lot of fun things to do nearby. My daughter loved greeting the animals each morning, and ending her day telling them goodnight. The apartment is comfortable, hosts are very kind (they even left fresh bread + eggs for us upon arrival!), and we really enjoyed our experience. We would definitely stay here again!
This is great get away place
We very much enjoyed our stay at this quiet country retreat. The owners do a great job of providing all items needed for a wonderful stay. The kitchen has all the dishware, appliances and utensils that you're likely to need for meal preparation. We used the property as a base for trips into New Glarus and riding some of bike trails in the area. We also enjoyed walking the trails around the property. It was interesting to read about the decade plus project the owners undertook to build their cordwood masonry home, located across the driveway from the rental. The hosts have done a great job to make this a wonderful home away from home, including a friendly cat! We would definitely stay again. Thank you!
We very much enjoyed our stay amongst the rolling hills of the Wisconsin countryside. The garage apartment was very clean and comfortable and a perfect home base to visit New Glarus, Mineral Point and the other charming small towns of the area. It was such a nice touch to be welcomed with farm fresh eggs and homemade berry bread - a perfect breakfast before strolling the mowed hiking paths throughout the hosts vast property (and a visit with the farm's goats, cats, and a curious deer we spotted). A great quiet country retreat!
Perfect for two people, the area is quiet, perfect if you want to disconnect from the big city, but it is about 20 to 30 minutes aways from New Glarus, Cave of the Mount or House on the Rock. We didn’t mind the driving because the countryside was beautiful. We made use of the trails and pet the goats they have on the property which made for a relaxing experience.
Cozy home base in a beautiful setting. Appreciated the welcoming eggs and bakery treat! Hosts presented thorough and thoughtful amenities.
Spacious & clean - I would stay again!
A beautiful place to escape the city for a long weekend. Clean and cozy inside with trails to walk and nice outdoor seating for reading. I fully recommend this location!
Cute spacious place with lots of amenitites. Appreciate the higher quality items (such as towels that are actually absorbent!), eggs, loaf of bread, and opportunity to compost. Perfect rural getaway with lots of trails on which to roam around.
I loved everything about my three-week stay in this comfortable, well-furnished, and thoughtfully maintained cottage on the charming small farm that is Barham Gardens. Nothing fancy, but everything works here like a well-engineered machine: AC, plumbing, kitchen, bath, linens, waste disposal and a sensible layout for a short or extended stay. The hosts live in an nearby house on the property and were friendly, informative, and responsive. The location offers excellent access to fly fishing in the fabled Driftless area and reasonable access to Madison for everything a city can offer. The grounds and trails on the property are idyllic, and the rural night skies sparkle with stars. Local food opportunities abound (I cooked all my meals). Roberta gave me a great education on aronia berries and the rhubarb that was in harvest, including a hand-written recipe. Two things to consider: If you plan to telecommute, be prepared to furnish your own high-speed internet. (I used a 4G phone hotspot.) The free wifi provided is adequate only for casual browsing. Also, if mobility is a concern, note that the living quarters are accessed via a long flight of stairs shown in one of the listing's photographs. I could say so much more about what makes this place great, but suffice it to say I came to regard it as a home away from home and am already daydreaming about my return.
The home was great. Clean, quiet and out in the country. They left us some fantastic aronia berry bread and fresh eggs for us! What a treat!
Perfect little apartment on a beautiful farm. Very clean and it had everything we needed. There was no TV, but no problem, we brought a laptop and books. It was very quiet and peaceful here. All the hiking we wanted was within a half hour away. We would definitely stay again.
My fiancé and I loved staying here, it was quiet and we really got to feel at peace. There are a lot of places to visit that are not far from here either. The local kitties were also so very sweet and friendly. :)
This is a wonderful place to stay but if I knew how far from New Glarus it was I would have not have booked it.
We loved this property. It's out in the country, away from all 'city life' and we were able to really unplug for the weekend and just enjoy each others company. We walked on trails around the property and saw bunnies, deer, butterflies and birds. We played board games while it rained and we just relaxed.
This is a wonderful property! Our accommodation was a 'coach house' built above the owners' 2-car garage. It was immaculate, very tastefully appointed, comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen, and in a serene environment on a farm. A winding long driveway provides a foretaste of the the peaceful farm property .
We were in the area to bike the Military Ridge Trail. Although it was still a bit of a drive to get to our biking destination each day, it was worth it. Very peaceful place place and friendly owners. We loved walking the trails and visiting with the kitties and goats each day after we were done biking. We also enjoyed the aronia bread and fresh eggs that were provided.
