Huntsville, Arkansas
Deep in the Arkansas Ozarks, nestled in rolling hills, is an 1891 Schoolhouse that has been fully restored. The Ribbon Ridge school district was established On April 16, 1891 and was closed in the early 1940,s it averaged only 16 students per year.Only 12 miles southeast of Huntsville, we are located at the crossroads of the Ozarks. Eureka Springs, Fayetteville, and Springdale are less than 45 minutes away. The scenic Buffalo River is just 22 miles over mountain roads. On the scenic porch of this lovely cottage, the weary traveler can listen to birds calling, horses neighing and deer whistling. For the more energetic, miles of hiking and riding trails, also accessible by mountain bike, lie right outside the cottage door. This cottage style one room Schoolhouse includes a full kitchen and bathroom. Come spent a night or two back in time and enjoy the beauty and history of Northwest Arkansas.
This was most definitely better than staying at some expensive hotel. It was quiet, private, and quaint. All we had to bring were our clothes and a few groceries. It was absolutely perfect and romantic and we will be booking again when close to that area. Couldn’t have asked for anything more! The host, Keith, was precious and accommodating! The best!
Very unique property. Renovated OLD Schoolhouse. Very quaint and quiet. loved the deck where you could watch the stars...sooooo many stars lol. I know there aren't more stars in the country, but you can certainly see more of them at night here! We were on our 1st year anniversary and had a fabulous time!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at this unique historic schoolhouse. The owner provided everything we could possibly require and the property was exactly as described in the listing. The schoolhouse was central to all of the activities that we wanted to do and a peaceful place for some rest and relaxation. We enjoyed having dinner and watching the fireflies from the spacious front porch and taking evening walks along the tree lined country roads. Mr. Keith was a gracious host and we felt so welcome. Highly recommend!
Property with lots of history and in the middle of absolute nowhere! It seemed like we could see every star in the sky. Great getaway with Buffalo River trails and elk sightings nearby. Local eatery in Kingston was great. Great to get away from Tv and social media for a few days.
It was an amazing get away to unwind and unplug. The school house is exactly how it's advertised, clean, cozy and quaint. Keith was friendly and a great host. We hope to return in the future. Huntsville is a charming small town and worth checking out. Lots of hiking close by.
Enjoyed our stay! School is just as advertised.
The host was very accommodating. When we told him we were having a.c issues he fixed immediately. The property has so much history in it. The location was great, so quiet & serene .
We loved staying at this old schoolhouse. Kitchen was just right to make our meals. Heaters kept us warm on the chilly nights. Star gazing was amazing! Keith is a great host. 25 minutes to get to the Buffalo National River area and enjoyed several hiking trails. As a former school teacher it was a fun experience!
We loved the little school house. It was one of the cleanest places we have ever stayed at. The night sky was amazing and it was very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed watching the cattle in the field beside it. We will definitely stay there again.
Definitely a bug/critter issue, but otherwise a great place to get some peace and enjoy nature
Thanks for taking good care of my friend Cindy. She loved everything! Hope to see you in the future.
We had an amazing time, it was everything as advertised. Beautiful scenery a ton of wildlife to see, very quiet and an extremely comfortable bed. Completely enjoyed ourselves.
Staying at the Ribbon Ridge Schoolhouse is a unique experience. You are truly off the grid and deep into the Ozarks. This historic site is well preserved and it was fun staying in what used to be an 1800s one room school house. After my stay, I discovered that a distant relative had been a teacher there in 1903!
The little school house is very pretty. As a teacher, I enjoyed reading thru some of the history. Our issue was a very small window unit to cool off the building. We put the fan in front of it to help cool it off quicker. Still a bit warm. I got up in the middle of the night to relicate the fan. The road in was very rough. We live on 6 miles of gravel but it is not rough like the road in to the school house. The other issue was bath soap. The only bath soap was a bowl of used soaps under the bathroom sink. We used the sink handsoap. Maybe I missed where we needed to bring our own. Again, very nice and quiet place (no tv). Just needs a 2nd window unit or a larger one for Arkansas summers and adequate toiletries.
Amazing stay at Ribbon Ridge Schoolhouse!! We enjoyed the peace of the nature around! Keith and Paula were excellent hosts!
This charming schoolhouse is located on private property down a couple of country dirt roads. It's quiet, off-the-beaten-path, and about 30 minutes away from Huntsville. The excellent host, Keith, is very hospitable, knowledgeable about the area, and made sure my stay was absolutely perfect. He even brought me delicious fresh eggs from his chickens! If you're looking to get away from hectic city life and destress, then this is the perfect place for you! You will see (and hear) an abundance of wildlife right from the deck of the schoolhouse - numerous birds, frogs, deer, horses, cows, fireflies, and even a roadrunner that visits. It's located close to a bunch of trailheads if you want to hike and about 30 minutes from Ponca if you want to canoe or kayak on the Buffalo River. At night, there is practically no light pollution if stargazing if your thing. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer!!!
