Located on a quiet, pedestrian-only walking path named after Otterbein University, known for its strong focus on transforming education and serving the common good – much like Mount Gretna itself! In fact, many streets throughout Mount Gretna were named after Universities - Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Brown, just to name a few.
We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it had everything we needed and was very comfortable!
we came to visit family. This was a great home base for us to travel around the area. A/c worked great. We even got to enjoy a little rainstorm while sitting on the cute front porch. And lots of birds out early in the AM while we drank our coffee out there too.
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage on Otterbein. It is a great location and provides the quintessential Mount Gretna experience.
The cottage was a wonderful surprise. We had no idea or understood what Mt Gretna campmeeting was before our visit. The cottage is situated in a wonderful and peace wooded area with historic homes around you. Each home has a signature porch and so many flowers. Foot paths vice car streets great you and lead to the tabernacle in the center of the village. They have summer concerts and events. This was a wonderful find and the house was perfect for a couple and a few small dogs.
Very nice property. I enjoyed the gas stove and how neat and clean everything was. I would stay there again. Excellent location within the Mount Gretna community.
This cottage was absolutely perfect for our weekend in Gretna. We were able to cook meals. Sit on the porch with our coffees and walk to all the local amenities.
My wife and I had a great time and a great stay at 206 Otterbein in Mt. Gretna. The location was ideal and the charm and quirkiness of Camp Meeting was was excellent. We enjoyed walking the neighborhood and viewing all the cottages and their porches. 206 Otterbein was a charm. A lovely cottage ideal for one or two couples. The place was clean, tidy and ready for us. Check-in was a breeze and either the church parking lot or the lower parking lot were just a short walk to bring in our bags. The first night, we only needed the fan in the bedroom and the second night, the AC was perfect as it had turned hotter and humid. We really enjoyed sitting on the front porch and reading in the mornings and evenings. Be sure to take the 1.5 hour hike to the top of Governor Dick! The comfy recliners were perfect for taking an afternoon nap while watching the Phillies. Previous comments about the hand-held shower in the old claw foot tub had prepared us for taking a bath/shower. But we kept asking ourselves: Why not just make the much-needed investment to pull the charming old tub out and put in a stand-up tub/shower? Function far outweighs form in this case. Overall, a great stay and charming, clean and comfy cottage!
Quiet, friendly, quirky
The place is nice enough, definitely smells like grandma especially in the bedroom. The one big negative, as others have mentioned, is there is no shower and the tub is kind of rusty. The other big negative is that the neighborhood is an absolute maze and has no parking. The next door neighbors’s kitchen window can’t be any further than 18” from this kitchen window. There is a huge amphitheater across the street for community gatherings. I’m sure plenty of people would love this village, I just found it very strange and cultish. Again, doesn’t have to do with the quality of the place.
Do not rent this place! After you pay and book through VRBO they send you a shady bill of additional charges before you can rent it that aren’t included in the VRBO price. There is no shower in the house. They advertise parking as an amenity and there is no parking. You have to park in parking lots of other facilities and walk to the house. They charge a cleaning fee and when you check in they give you a list of chores to clean the place for them and charge you $15 for not making the bed. They make up lies and charge you for damages that did not occur during your stay, and when you ask for pictures they do not provide them and still keep your money. The place makes you bring your own toilet paper, towels, paper towels, coffee, sheets, and anything you need including traveling elsewhere to take a shower. The neighbors are extremely rude and nosey. I witnessed the neighbors harass people walking their dog and yelling at a young mother about her baby and making her cry.
