Nelson, British Columbia
A rare private Kootenay Lakefront cottage that is nestled at the end of a quiet no-thru road at the edges of the sheltered Queens Bay. The cottage is located 30 minutes between Nelson and Kaslo just North of the Balfour Ferry Terminal.
The completely renovated 700 square foot cottage is the only residence on the property and sleeps 5-6 people with two bedrooms including a Queen bed, two single beds and a sofa couch. The inside of the cottage, with its' wood interior is bright and has large windows looking out to the lake. You can watch the sun and moon rise over the Purcell Mountains while the ferry passes in front between Balfour and Crawford Bay and the loons call in the bay. It is an easy walk to the Balfour Golf Course across the roadway or take the forested trail along the lake into the little community of Balfour where there is a wonderful bakery, convenience store and two pub/restaurants on the water.
Relax on the brand new and larger deck that was just completed April 2017, or swim in the warmest waters of Kootenay Lake then head out and explore what the area has to offer from Golf that is five minutes away, hot springs (Ainsworth Hot Springs is 20 mins away), cave exploring, fishing charters, hiking, mountain biking or zip-lining and end the day at one of the excellent restaurants or pubs a short distance away. The perfect way to wind down after an action packed day is a campfire down at the beach.
We have been renting our other Kootenay Lakefront cabin (Kootenai Hideaway) near Kaslo for over ten years. In the Spring of 2016 we completed a major renovation of Queens Bay Hideaway and have had guests since April who have all had positive comments. For some of the reviews, please look at our ad in the website for both of our cabins. Ask to have a copy of the Day Trip Distance and local Information package sent to you.
Pets are considered with an additional fee of $20 per pet per night and collected separately by owners.
Note: Queens Bay Hideaway is located 2 Kms North of the Balfour Ferry Terminal on Green Rd.

Did not receive any confirmation close to time drove there not having a clue if we even had a place to stay. no answer from property manager vrb could not help, We did not have an address. eventually found the owner phone # who gave us the adress and lock box info thank you.
We had a very relaxing getaway at your beautiful cottage. We had every thing we needed. The kids were comfortable. The location is fantastic. Just far enough away yet close enough to whatever adventures you want. We enjoyed our Kootenay holiday!
Mostly a base camp for us. Didn't spend much time at the property. Very clean and well maintained. The access path was a challenge and would be for anybody carrying gear.
What a great place to stay. The owners were so friendly and available for all our questions. Made great recommendations about the area. The location is peaceful and picturesque. Watching the ferry in the evening and fires on the beach! There are all the amenities you need to stay in but centrally located to Nelson, Kaslo and the Balfour wonderful free ferry to Kootenay Bay on the east side of the lake. You need to take your things down the to the cottage so our recommendation is not to pack heavy bags. We would definitely stay there again or at their other vacation rental further North. Outstanding
We had a lovely stay at the cottage. Comfy and cozy space. Amazing view of the mountains across the lake.
We had a quiet Christmas in this lovely cabin with beautiful views. Hosts made every effort to make sure we had a great stay. Highly recommend.
No problems throughout entire stay, loved it there! Would highly recommend!
The property is exactly as represented. Clean with all of the amenities. Nothing fancy but all of the furnishings and appliances are modern and in great condition. The views of the lake and surrounding mountains are stunning. Darrell, our host was prompt in responding and has provided plenty of information in the cottage about the surrounding areas and things to do. We arrived after a snowfall and the walkway to the home and stairs had been cleared for our arrival. Two things to note. Google will get you to the cottage but definitely adhere to the directions which Darrell provides with respect to the turn-off to Green road (Google tries to send you down section of the road which doesn't really exist). Also, there is a pretty steep path with switch-backs down from the road to the cottage. It is well kept but people with mobility issues would not be able to make it.
My wife and I stayed here for a few days while setting my wife up at school. It had all of the amenities we needed and Darrell was quick to help us out when we hit a snag. The location is right on the water and has a gorgeous view. I highly recommend it.
We had a great two weeks stay from September 15 to the 29th, 2020. The cabin was clean and modern. They had completely gutted it and redone it beautifully with all modern fixtures. The Wi-Fi work great. The only drawback were the stairs coming down a steep hill to the cabin. We had to be very careful as we are both over 65 and not 100% mobile. But it all turned Ok. Nobody fell! We had our three small dogs with us as well and they completely enjoy the experience. We were a little too late in the season to go swimming but enjoyed the beautiful scenery every day.
