What a delightful four days my wife and I had at Kathy's cottage on the river. The mid-April weather and the location near Newland, NC was awesome allowing us to enjoy day trips to various mountain towns. Days end would find us back at the cottage relaxing on the back porch swing and/or rockers while listening to the sounds of the river flowing by . . . Extremely relaxing! Inside the cottage Kathy made our stay very comfortable. Amenities included a well equipped kitchen for those who choose to prepare their on meals. Other nice touches include plenty of coffee pods, popcorn and assortment of candies. All in all one of the best rental experiences we've encountered on our various trips. If you are looking for a place to stay in the NC mountains Kathy's place should be included on your list of possibilities.

The cottage was very clean and well decorated. Kathy was great to communicate with when I had a few questions before arrival. She has all the little extras for a great stay. LOVED the cottage and especially enjoyed spending time in front of the fire and watching the snow. Magical! Located in a great location to get to so many fantastic things. Winery right down the road which was fantastic. Would highly recommend to anyone and hope to be back soon! !

You’ll love this cottage as a couple or if you need minimal space. The river is amazing and sounds great. The decks are nice as well. However, this is not a one bedroom cottage. It’s a studio and shouldn’t be listed otherwise. If you click on one of the hidden “more info” links, you’ll see a truncated mention of “one large room”, but you shouldn’t have to investigate and extrapolate half sentences to get the idea and the photos conceal this as well. The studio set up was tough for 2 adults and 1 child. The studio is packed with furniture and decor. You can’t use the sleeper without moving a table and chair to the kitchen or patio. We had a hard time making space for skis and bags for only a few days. I’m mainly sensitive to this because I feel stressed out around clutter and there’s so much stuff, to include shoved under the bed.The final negative was cleanliness in some spots. The host mentioned that the prior guests made a mess and to let her know of any problems. The cleaners did a great job, but there were huge piles of dust under the bed and in the sofa that aren’t just from one guest (probably hard to clean around the things packed under there). We had to peel dust balls off our stuff. Super positive note, the host was lenient about the dog policy and let my trained, medium size dog stay. A hidden caveat to the dog friendly category is that there is a 20 lb max, despite small dogs generally being meaner, happier and less potty trained.

I love the location which is close to relatives, Linville Falls, the winery, and its halfway between Spruce Pine and Newland. Linville and Banner Elk are a short drive. I love the cabin being on the river. I needed to prepare food for a family reunion and the kitchen is a good size. If you plan on doing a lot of food prep, be safe and bring casserole dishes and mixing bowls.

Nice little cottage in neighborhood of about 20 similar houses. Easy access from main road. My only advice to owner is to remove a lot of the knick knacks, there’s too much stuff in such a small house. We would stay here again.

This place is great. My wife and I found the accommodations and amenities more than enough. So generous for the size of the place. We even did a load of laundry before we left! Perhaps the best aspect was falling asleep to the sound of the river yards from the back door. So unbelievably relaxing!! The only thing I feel the need to mention is that the photos don't show this cabin's proximity to the surrounding cabins. I'm glad we didn't know before booking, or it might have changed our minds. Just know it's close quarters. That said, the charm and delight quickly over-rode our initial dismay, and we thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our stay. Definitely booking again!

This property is nestled among the trees - with an audible delight and surprise: a babbling brook in the back yard just off the deck. We played guitar for nature and took in the fresh air and hospitality. Kathy was wonderful making sure every detail was perfect for our out-n-about excursions to Linville Falls, the Boone Fork Trail Hike and the Owl's Eye swimming hole. We are definitely coming back.
