The beautiful white sand beaches of Biddeford offer a getaway vacation that you will want to return to every summer--and this cottage offers the perfect spot. Enjoy watching sparkling water and waves breaking on the rocks, from the comfort of your living room or deck. Wade in the sheltered waters on the small beach just a few steps away, or stroll down to jump in the waves on the 3-mile-long beach just over the hill--Fortunes Rocks is known for its beaches, and surfers visit all year!
The quiet small beach and the splashing public beach are as different as night and day, and this house is one of the very few giving you the best of both.
Stroll out into the yard and enjoy the flowers, then step onto the beach to explore rock pools at the edge of the sea. Sit on the beach with the light breeze and the sand between your toes--the kids can make sand castles in the fresh salty air.
Town is only a few minutes away, where you can discover that the historic districts of Biddeford and Saco provide delightful walks. New development has brought cafes (including Panera Bread!) and ethnic restaurants. The mills have been transformed by artisans, woodworkers and many small businesses in the new loft spaces on the island in the Saco River. History and architecture buffs will enjoy the “Museum on the Streets” self-guided walking tour. Scenic river views may be enjoyed from trails, a gazebo and benches.
Funtown, aquaboggin & shopping malls are nearby: To the north, there is Old Orchard (15 minutes), Portland (a half hour), and Freeport's LL Bean store just beyond. To the south, Boston is an hour and a half, Kennebunkport just 15 minutes, and the shopping at Kittery Outlet Malls in between.
Boater's paradise: there is a boat launch on the Saco River; kayak rentals for the river/salt marshes to the north/the ocean! There are lobster boats, fishing boats, boats to whale-watch!
Artists paint islands and lighthouses at Biddeford Pool, and visit galleries from Perkins Cove to Kennebunkport.
Naturalists can walk the beach, the salt marshes, woods, and fields, watching for birds, chipmunk, woodchuck, beaver, fox, wild turkey, deer, moose, ... Bigfoot !! Well, what's a summer without a little adventure Maine is Vacationland, and the 'Palace' at Fortunes Rocks has the best location of all.
Near shopping, arts, theatre, antiques, book sales, whale watch, fishing, kayaking, lobster!
Perfect for just resting and rejuvenating in the salty air!
Getting there: Apart from driving, or flying to Boston (BOS) or Porland (PWM), you could even come by train! The new Amtrak station, opened in 2009, is notable for being the first green design train station in the U.S., featuring a wind turbine for electricity, geothermal heating and cooling systems, and a roof made from recycled soda bottles.
N.B. Not available in winter, since the pipes cannot be winterized.
Beautiful location, you can hear the surf and see a a rocky section of the cove from the living room. The accommodations are basic and the cottage is small - it was perfect for two adults and two small dogs. The owner is very responsive and concerns are dealt with promptly. Would definitely return.
Basic but nice little cottage. Great outdoor spaces and location.
My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this small, comfortable cottage close to Fortunes Rocks Beach, beautiful walking trails, and charming coastal towns. The cottage was clean and well-equipped and the owner very responsive when we had a question. Would highly recommend!
I love the location of this house and property. It's got it's own private beach and a great view of the ocean. It's close to town and it's very easy to get to. It's charming with old windows and doors. Bedroom are small but quaint with great huge windows that open in. It's a true beach house with funky furniture that's comfortable . It's a 5 minute walk to Fortunes Rocks Beach and under 10 minutes to Goose Rocks Beach. Cape Porpoise has all of the amenities that you need and it's quiet enough here to spend the whole day reading. I'm already booked for next year!
In the case of this rental, the pictures do not tell the story. First, the view. There are two properties in the same yard, so the view from this cottage is mostly blocked by the 2-story house in front of it. Most of the photos on the site (showing ocean view) were clearly taken from the front house/yard. Next, the condition and furnishings. The screens are ripped, the beds are rickety with very thin mattresses, and every wall and corner of the cottage is crammed with furniture that looks like the stuff people put out at the roadside with a free sign and stays there unclaimed until the junkman comes. Every ugly detail proclaims, I do not care about this property. I can charge a lot of money (including a surcharge to have any sheets, towels, or even a dishcloth!), and people are gullible enough to pay it. Don't be gulled--stay somewhere else.
A quaint little cottage with a nice view of the bay...
Beautiful view of ocean. Loved relaxing on the deck listening to the waves. Simple and homey, just what we needed.
We had a wonderful time at the cottage. Perfect distance to the beach when toting multiple bags ! Spectacular views and so peaceful. Just what we needed and my 4 yr old grandson loved the waves ❤️
Amazing stay. Perfect location, cozy cottage with all the essentials, beautiful view, friendly neighbors. Our host was incredibly communicative, helpful and easy to connect with. Our family highly recommends this home for your next vacation getaway.
Nice cottage in a quiet spot with a good view of the water. The inclusion of the SmartTV has nice touch, even though I had my laptop. Only blemish was that the rooms needed some dusting of spiderwebs and had to share the bathroom with a few of the crawlers.
The cottage was just what we needed for a simple long weekend away. Ha I g the sound of the waves and the beach so close by was perfect!
Adorable cottage with fantastic views. We enjoyed our stay. The cottage had everything we needed for a enjoyable long weekend. The owner provided extra information about points of interest in the area and was very accommodating. We will visit again. Thank you for having us.
