Lee, Maine
Great fall, summer, and spring vacation destination. Silver Lake is a spring fed lake located in the small rural town of Lee. The cottage is tucked into a quiet cove of the lake and is surrounded by hills and trails. Local mixed deciduous forests provide colorful fall foliage viewing mid-September to mid-October. For those of you looking for a place to spend your days relaxing at the lake floating on a tube, paddling a canoe, sailing, swimming, fishing, riding ATVs or hanging out on the dock and deck, this is the place for you.
For those who wish to explore northern natural areas in the middle of a working forest, there are hundreds of miles of gravel logging roads and structured ATV trails accessed right from the cottage to explore by auto, mountain bike, or ATV. For those who delight in taking day excursions to places of interest, this area is central to historical landmarks and recreational sites such as the Black Mansion and Kings Landing; state and national parks such as Baxter State Park, Acadia National Park, and Roosevelt Campobello International Park; the Canadian border provides exploration to the North; and there are also extensive Maine coastal regions.
This area is also a popular location for hunting and fishing enthusiasts. The gin-colored waters of this spring-fed lake hold bass, pickerel, white perch, and ice out trophy brook trout. These varied species of fish support a healthy loon population. For the hunting enthusiast, there is moose hunting by lottery, bear, deer, partridge and duck hunting. There is open season on coyotes year-round.
WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE: Lee Post Office, Local general store, Restaurant, Hiking Mount Jefferson, Lee Historical Society with the Lee Museum housing a large collection including Civil War artifacts, a piece of the Hindenburg, a birch bark canoe, many antiques, and a horse drawn hearse and Mallet Hall Museum a restored hotel with tours by appointment and the location of public Baked Bean suppers.

Maine was our escape from heat-stricken Texas. We were looking for a quiet place, in the country, where we could relax, write and read. Caron and Lin's property on Silver Lake was all that and more. A most comfortable house, near the water, with all the accommodations you could dream of. There was a grill, which my husband thoroughly enjoyed using, kayaks that were easy to launch, access to the water for swimming - and wonderful water temperature, by the way! Caron and Lin kept in touch with us as our arrival date neared and they were there to welcome us. Friendly neighbors (with the cutest dog!) in a small lake community. We felt thoroughly at home. There's a small diner in Lee (the nearest village) with good breakfast and lunch, and Lincoln, about 6 miles away, has all the groceries one might need. Neither of us had been to Maine before and we fell in love. This is a wonderful place to stay and a VRBO gem! Thanks Caron and Linwood Staples!
The lake house property was very well maintained inside and out! The yard is very large and the grass and flower beds are immaculately cared for. Kitchen has large top freezer refrigerator, plenty of counter top space, extensive assortment of utilitarian pots/pans dishes and glassware. The kitchen has everything one would need to prepare a short or an extensive meal. Lofted living area with ceiling fan is an open concept to the kitchen and had a nice couch, large recliner and comfortable large rocker, nice flats screen TV with “DISH” satellite Programing. Up the stairway to the loft brings a spacious area with a queen/full size bed and 2 night stands, a twin bed as well as a futon. Downstairs consists of 2 bedrooms both with queen/full beds night stands and ample closet space. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans and there are several windows facing north, east and west for excellent air movement. There is a mini-split heat/air conditioning unit in the living room that provides more than enough A/C during those occasional warm summer days. During our stay in July 2021 our temperatures ranged from 81-51 fantastic weather! The bathroom has a tub/shower combination, toilet, vanity sink and a stack washer and dryer. Plenty of towels are also provided. Exiting through the sliding glass door in the living room takes you to a very large elevated porch/deck with 2 Adirondack chairs a small table and 2 large wood picnic table over looking beautiful Silver lake. Relaxing on the deck with coffee in the morning and a cocktail/wine in the evening is so relaxing and peaceful. Listening to the loons on the lake is so majestic it makes you stop what you are doing and just listen! The owners Lin and Caron also had 2 Kayaks and a canoe with life jackets and paddles for us to use. There is also a propane gas grill under the deck that we used several times cooking out. The time we spent at Lin and Caron’s Silver lake property was perfect in every way, we can’t wait to come again! Thank You for all you did during our Perfect July in Maine. (Property I.D. 79969) Sincerely, J & B.
Great swimming, easy outings and adventures nearby. Comfortable, clean, beautiful spot.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed a week at this perfectly quaint and clean home on beautiful and peaceful Silver Lake. It was the most relaxing yet fun filled vacation we have ever taken. Each morning consisted of coffee on the spacious deck with wonderful views of the lake and sweet morning calls from the loons. Then we would all move down to the dock where we would stay until late afternoon. The evenings were spent by the fire next to the water. The home had everything we needed. Our hosts were attentive and very helpful if we had any questions. This is a must vacation for anyone. It was a wonderful way to reconnect with family and to leave all the hustle and bustle behind for a week. Thank you to our gracious hosts!
Our family really enjoyed our stay. Everything you could think of that you need was already there for us, making it much easier for packing. The cottage was super clean and cozy. We highly recommend anyone looking for a quiet vacation on the water front to stay here.
My family and I enjoy a week on Silver Lake every year. We always rent this cottage as it is incredibly clean, has ample space, every amenity we could ever want, and a perfect view of the water. It doesn't matter if you're looking for a place to bring your boat, bike, backpack or book - this is the ideal destination!
My husband's family stayed here the weekend of our wedding. They did a day trip to visit and hike Bar Harbor but enjoyed spending their time relaxing and grilling at the cabin. Great swimming with a picnic table and fire pit right by the lake. Private road that dead ends so no busy traffic nearby. Was a great getaway for some outdoor relaxation and fun. We will definitely be going back for a family trip!
I have been going to Lee maine since I was 5 years old and I have to say this is a great part of the lake to stay on, it is quieter than the other side, the house was a hit with my family and our friends that live in Lee, we loved the big yard and the clean lake bottom around the dock was great. I will tell friends and family if they want a quiet and restfull place to stay this is it.

They also caught plenty of bass at the nearby sandbar. Ample space inside and the owners are very accomendating. Would have no problem recommending this place to friends and family.
