Located in the heart of Bretforton, just across from the village green, next door to Bretforton Village School's playing field, within sight of St. Leonard's Church and a stone's throw from the National Trust-owned Fleece Inn, Old Fox Cottage will capture your heart even before you go in. The Tiffany-blue front door, with its foxy door knocker, peeping out from under the immaculate thatched roof, sets the tone for your stay here. It is a delightful property.

The owners, Adam and Lois, have worked tirelessly to produce a look and feel that is tasteful and luxurious throughout the cottage. With its peaceful blues, calm creams and woodland themes, you'll feel particularly warm, cosy and cosseted here. The attention to detail is fantastic, with every mod con anticipated and provided. Shut the front door and all the worries of the world melt away.

What makes this cottage additionally attractive is the village of Bretforton itself, which is a friendly, welcoming place best demonstrated by its community shop, stocked with essential items and tasty goodies. Similarly, the Fleece Inn is a warm and friendly place with an impressive calendar of events and activities to enjoy while sampling their hearty menu and fine wines and beers. Even if you never venture further than Bretforton, you'll have a great stay.

Ground Floor

Entrance Hall:
Enter through the partially glazed front door straight into the light-filled Entrance Hall, which combines as a snug vestibule (great for sinking into the comfy armchairs while pulling off boots and coats) and practical room with a cupboard for coats and wellies and a helpful umbrella stand. With its wooden floor, cream tongue-and-groove panelling and original beams, the Entrance Hall offers a warm welcome.

The Living Room:
The Tiffany blue and cream theme continues into this lovely room, tastefully furnished with two sumptuous armchairs and a large double sofa. The most striking feature in here is the inglenook fireplace with original beam work. Within the fireplace is a wood-effect electric burner. The Living Room is all ready for a cosy night in, where you can enjoy the large, flat-screen digital TV with Blu Ray DVD player and a wealth of films. Alternatively, there's a Wii console with games if you're feeling more energetic. An Emma Bridgwater DAB radio with iPod docking station on the dresser is set up for playing your own playlist or a podcast.

The Kitchen:
The beautiful and immaculate country-cottage kitchen has been carefully designed so that every appliance you'll need for your stay is there, but cleverly hidden away to provide everything you need in a small space; the only obvious appliance is the gas hob with built-in oven and extractor hood above. However, an integral slimline Hotpoint dishwasher and an integral fridge can be found beside the cooker, whilst behind an ingenious bifold cupboard you'll find the bread bin, Kenwood microwave, and Dualit toaster and kettle. The wall units house everything you'll need to cater for your group. There's also an iron under the large ceramic sink and a high chair, picnic basket and vacuum in the under-stair cupboard.

Utility/Laundry Room:
A compact space where you'll find the Hotpoint combined washing machine/dryer, a small library of books, rechargeable tea light candles, and storage cupboards housing cleaning materials and the boiler.

Family Bathroom:
As with the rest of the cottage, this room is impeccably and tastefully appointed with a limestone floor and travertine wall tiles. Relax and soak away stresses in the large roll top bath that sits under the small private window overlooking the side path. Or enjoy a rainfall shower in the separate elevated double-shower enclosure. The bathroom is thoughtfully stocked with all the shampoo, shower gel, and bubble bath you could need - so don't weigh your luggage down with those heavy items.

Conservatory:
Streaming with bright light (even on an overcast day), the heated Dining Conservatory is a great living space: by day it's an extra living and eating space where you'll sit to enjoy your breakfasts and lunches and access the patio garden and BBQ outside. By night, it can be transformed into an intimate dinning space with shimmering lighting.
First Floor

Bedroom One:
The oldest part of the cottage, the master double bedroom has a cosy yet luxurious feel, tucked under the beams and eaves. From the iron-frame king-size bedstead, you can enjoy private views through the traditional cottage windows. The cushioned window seat is a wonderful place to sit and while away some relaxation time.
The bedroom has a lovely full-length cheval mirror, a deep clothes closet, a hairdryer, and a digital flat-screen TV for bedtime viewing.

Bedroom Two:
A delightful room with two large, single beds, fluffy bed linen with bed throws, original beams, and a window overlooking a flat roof to the patio beyond. Ideal for children, this room would also suit two adults because of its L-shaped layout, providing individual privacy in a shared space.

Outside

The area to the rear of the cottage has been laid to patio and is reached either through the side gate and path or through the back door from the Dining Conservatory. In this clever us of space you'll find a lovely, ivy-walled sun trap. The main patio area is up two stone steps where there's a large ‘Outback' gas BBQ, a rattan-style patio table with four matching chairs to one side, and two rattan-style sofas with an all-weather coffee table on the other.

For a property in the heart of a village, this outside space is marvellously private being surrounded by high walls. (Note: one small window overlooks the area to one side but seems rarely unused.)

An excellent cottage, very well equipped, cosy, felt like home, excellent location especially being so close to the lovely pub. I really was made up that they had decorated the cottage with Christmas decs, that was a brilliant addition to our stay. Would definitely say again.

This is our second time staying in Old Fox Cottage. The last time was in 2019 with our two daughters. We loved it and wanted to return. The thatched roof cottage is clean and well decorated. Cozy hearth room with a warm electric fireplace, inviting sunroom , instant hot water for the shower and tub, comfortable bed. The town is the quintessential Cotswold town with a great historic pub called the Fleece Inn. Cons: Primary bedroom bed, although comfortable, sags a bit. Shower has a good supply of hot water, but is small, has minimal receptacles to plug in and charge devices.

As a woman traveling alone my comfort level is always a top priority. I want to feel safe sleeping alone in the property but also feel like the space is a warm and welcoming place to rest and retreat. This property Fox Cottage was All those things. I cooked most of my meals in the perfect little kitchen and enjoyed quiet evenings in the lounge area. The bedroom felt like a cozy nest. I slept peacefully. The logistics like parking, location, getting in and out with key were all easy and excellent. I greatly appreciated having a washer... it really allowed me to lighten what clothes I traveled with. All around excellent stay and exceptional service.

We fell in love with this cottage the moment we opened the door. It is decorated in a lovely way with all kinds of details that make it look vintage. It is very cozy, with comfortable armchairs, cushions, rugs, etc. The main bedroom is adorable. It has a good-sized wardrobe, sufficient for holiday clothes. We didn't use the second bedroom, but it is nice for the kids (with several books for them to read). The kitchen has all the appliances you may need, and the conservatory (dining room) is amazing (the only thing I would point out is that when it is sunny, it can be a little challenging to eat there). The garden was a little bit overgrown, but we had some nice evenings there. We loved the cottage and felt completely at home. We highly recommend it. When we come back to the Cotswolds, this is the place we will return to.

Our week long stay at the Old Fox came at the end of a travel intensive UK visit. My sister joined my husband and I, so we were three adults. The cottage had the old thatched roof charm we were hoping for, modernized enough to make for a very comfortable stay. It was a bit of a steep climb up to the bedrooms, but that was expected for the cottage charm. Though the bathroom is on the main level it has a lovely shower and soaking tub and a good sized medicine cabinet to store all of our toiletries in. The very popular Fleece Inn pub is a very short walk out the front door. The disadvantage is that the overflow parking during lunch and dinner hours fills up the block in front of the cottage and we had to park down the street and make a couple of trips unloading the car. They also seem to have nightly events so one hears music and joyful voices until 10:30 or so. This was not a problem for us, but something some might want to be aware of. If you are planning to eat a dinner or two there, reservations need to be made two to three days in advance. We found the little local grocery (just a very short walk away) to be delightful and they had most everything we needed for breakfast, lunch and dinners. We also brought home a few treasures found in the Ark, a small antique shop practically next door. Though small, we relaxed in pretty much every seating area/room available (including outside). The conservatory was our favorite, with lots of light and garden views and bird watching. For those curious about the layout, as I was, the front door enters into a small sitting room, with two comfortable chairs. The TV/living room is off to the left. The entry room includes a closet perfect for coats. The kitchen is straight through the entry hall, with the stairs up to the bedrooms to the left and the bathroom and laundry area just beyond the stairs. The conservatory and garden door are just beyond the kitchen. The master bedroom has an amazing closet space, and two small windows with lovely views. The twin bedroom is quite tiny, two adults may struggle to share it, but probably perfect for children, and it includes a lovely little collection of children’s books. If you have sunny weather, don’t miss the outside area of the Fleece Inn. It’s a great little park in its own right, and includes a tiny little lending library.

We booked Old Fox Cottage to celebrate the Christmas holidays. Communication before our arrival was fantastic and provided easy directions to the cottage. Once we entered we were thrilled to see the cottage had been decorated for the holidays including Christmas crackers. We were also supplied with tea, milk, bread, butter and cake. Just what we needed after our journey. The village itself is very cute and the pub across the square is delicious. We were also provided with some excellent suggestions on additional places to eat. The village is very conveniently located to explore the best of the Cotswolds. The cottage is tiny but did not feel cramped. The kitchen is well stocked for any cooking you want. We had a wonderful time on our holiday and look forward to coming back

We stayed at Old Fox Cottage for our honeymoon and all I can say is that it was perfect in every way! The cottage itself is beautiful and sits in an idyllic location where we could enjoy many areas of the Cotswolds at our leisure. It’s beautifully presented with many personal touches that makes you feel relaxed and almost home from home. Many thanks for the wonderful memories. Rob & Tracey
