Stayed Sep 7, 2025Our family enjoyed a wonderful week at Hillside cottage. We arrived after dark and woke up to the most amazing panoramic view of Somes Sound and Sargent Mountain. The “quiet side” of Mt. Desert Island is a great choice and is easily accessible to Acadia’s trails and activities. Paul is a super host with quick response times and answers to our questions. Chambers Oceanfront Cottages is definitely a five star experience

Stayed Sep 29, 2024Lovely home. Beautiful view. Very well supplied and stocked. Friendly host was very helpful as we contacted him several times. I love Marilyn’s paintings throughout the home! On the downside: in all my years of traveling and renting homes/condos, I ve never been asked to checkin so late and checkiout so early!

Stayed Sep 22, 2024Hillside provided all of the necessities, was clean and has a great view from the deck. The host was wonderful in turning on lights since we arrived after dark. My husband and I had a great week hiking in Acadia.

Stayed Aug 13, 2023What a wonderful cottage with a spectacular view! The location was quiet and serene yet convenient to explore Acadia, Bar Harbor, & the other harbor towns on MDI. The cottage was very comfortable with everything we needed during our stay. The deck was our favorite part - we spent a lot of our time while at the cottage relaxing and enjoying the view from there.

Stayed Jul 16, 2023extremely responsive and accommodating owner only point and it’s not a complaint is that the dock is not directly connected to the house so the pictures online or a little misleading not a big deal at all great space for a little baby to run around a nice outdoor areas for eating, sitting and reading reading.

Stayed Aug 28, 2022Check-in was easy and everything was clean and ready for our arrival (including a fire laid in the fireplace). We were visiting the last week of August and so did not need either heat or A/C — just the ceiling fan. We particularly enjoyed the spectacular view across Somes Sound from the private deck and the shared floating docks. We watched osprey fishing i the Sound and had two bald eagle flybys during our week’s stay. Highly recommended.

Stayed Jun 19, 2022This property was exactly what my family needed and was looking for. You can't say enough great things about the views from the property, the proximity to Acadia National Park, and the property itself. The owners make sure you have everything you need, had the easiest check in process to date, and was equipped with everything a typical VRBO would have. We will definitely considering coming back to this location.

Stayed Jun 5, 2022We had a very pleasant stay at Hall Quarry. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The owner was very responsive to any of our needs. Plenty of room for a family of four. Though not the fault of the host, the internet was spotty on rainy days. Just something to be aware of so have other things to do! The views from the deck were beautiful! Sparkling water, and, if you get up early enough, fantastic sunrises! Apparently there were other cottages nearby, but we did not hear or see them. Very private.

Stayed May 9, 2021The Hall Quarry location afforded great views from its full length deck of sunrises over Somes Sound on Mt. Desert Island. The house itself contained all the kitchen necessities, had a great automatic grill/smoker, and was very comfortable to stay in. It was no more than a 20 minute drive to just about anywhere on the island including Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park . The house is set well off of any main roads and is extremely private and quiet. On moonless/cloudless nights the stars just exploded across the sky. The house was set-up great for one or two couples with kids. Plenty of room. Paul and Ashlee, the hosts were very responsive to every query. Although we are not boaters, it looked like there were good accomodations for those who are.

Stayed Apr 25, 2021The Hillside property we stayed at was great for our 4-person young family, we even could have hosted another family member or two comfortably and did host another 6 people for an early dinner. All the right kitchen utensils and quality non-stick pans, make sure to not use metal on them! The fireplace during our late April stay was used quite a lot for ambience and a little direct warmth, having a nice fire going with subtle lighting above while unwinding with some games after a day hiking and exploring was the icing on the cake of this trip. The satellite TV has some good music channel selection and always a movie on for most age groups. The view from behind double slider doors is great if it's too cold outside, but out on the expansive deck was where I spent some nice mornings and late afternoon quiet time. You can really take in all the atmosphere of Somes Sound, the only fjard in North America, and the adjacent mountain peaks of Acadia National Park. The upstairs bedroom has low head room, so best for the littler kids and you have to stay very aware of the ceiling or you'll regret it! The downstairs bedrooms were comfortably sized with soft cozy beds, good closet space for hanging jackets and sufficient dresser space. The owner Peter was very responsive to inquiries and anything we may have needed, getting lobster right at the dock was a treat for the kids and Peter provided a brief lesson and talk about lobster, the quarry area around us, history of the buildings and answered other questions they had. We packed a lot into a week, I highly recommend making an appointment with the Granite Museum where Stephen Haynes can give a great presentation about how the environment you're staying in was formed millions of years ago and the history of the granite industry that was here. Then when you return to your cottage try to imagine the roads, rocks and area you are staying in used to be a bustling quarry. Also the Acadia Mountain trail, Jordan Pond loop trail with a detour up to Bubble Rock if you're up for a scramble, walking to Bar island at low tide for a view into Bar Harbor and Cadillac Mountain for sunset at Blue Hill overlook. Of course a day in town and lobster dinner is also necessary. We did a lot more, but those were highlights for sure.
