Faywood, New Mexico
In the remote, serene Mimbres Valley in Southwestern New Mexico, NAN Ranch guests enjoy access to river, mountains, canyons and desert, thousands of acres and hundreds of miles of ranch roads from our rental housing at the historic headquarters. On a slow day, visitors might simply stay home with acres and acres of lawns, trees, gardens, mountain and valley views, sunny poolside garden or shady private spots and worlds of solitude.
This listing is for the small, charming cottage that once housed the estate's head gardener. The "Old Gardener's Cottage" is cozy and central to the headquarters, comfortable and well-appointed. Its single bedroom has one full-size bed, while the sitting room, which has a fold-out sofa, is open to the kitchen via a large service window and bar. An antique claw-foot tub with shower adds atmosphere to the bathroom, which was remodeled in 2016. Well behaved canine guests are welcome in the Cottage.

As many other reviews make clear, the NAN ranch property is beautiful, restful, quiet, and relaxing, and our experience was all of these things. In addition to the beautiful houses and grounds (the trees by the pool provided a remarkably cooling respite in triple-digit heat), the location itself is within reasonably short driving distance to a variety of locations worth a visit. These include: the City of Rocks just a few miles away; the Gila Cliff Dwellings (and mountain hiking trails); and Silver City for a bit of Old West flair, shops, and restaurants. Despite being seemingly remote, there is plenty to do in the area in addition to enjoying the Ranch and its extensive property. Do yourself a favor and spend time at NAN Ranch and this part of the Land of Enchantment: you'll be glad you did!
We brought our 15 year old daughter to see the Gila Cliff Dwellings and wanted to stay somewhere totally off the grid where we could all unplug and just enjoy spending time together as a family...little did we know that we would also get to stay in such a breathe-takingly beautiful place, with some amazing history of its own. To stay on an actual ranch, with history like this one has, is such an honor. From the majestic scenery, to the historically beautiful Spanish hacienda, surrounded by many other little haciendas you will be in awe from the moment you enter their property. Betty, the owner, is so sweet and her knowledge of the history of this area goes back very far and includes her own family history. To see a place like this, that has such an extensive history and has been in their family for so many years, makes it a rare gem that we all, this day in age, sadly take for granted. So if you are wanting something unlike anything you have ever seen before, or something where you can totally unplug and connect as a family, this is the place for you. Thank you so much Betty for making us feel right at home. We will never forget our stay here, at the Nana Ranch.
