These two semi-detached holiday cottages are situated 0.5 miles up a private farm track, next to the owners’ small working farm in a very quiet, peaceful location, ideal for secluded retreats or as a central touring base to explore Dumfries & Galloway. The cottages are similar in style, Myrtle Cottage (ref 28177) being a converted traditional granite byre with an architect-designed larch clad extension.

They are located near the Solway Coast, close to the world-class ‘7 Stanes’ mountain bike facilities at Dalbeattie and Mabie Forest (also ideal for walking). In the vicinity is Galloway Forest Park, one of a few ‘Dark Sky Parks’ in the western world, recognised for the spectacular starry skies it affords. Dumfries, 25 minutes away, is recognised for links with Robert Burns; visitors may explore his house, sample a dram in Burns’ favourite hostelry - The Globe Inn, or visit the Robert Burns Centre. Other nearby activities include Golf, Fishing, Segway experiences, Bike hire and Canyoning.

Discover unspoilt villages, dramatic coastlines, sandy beaches and rocky coves, with gorgeous views across the Solway Firth to the Lakeland Fells. Local history includes castles, abbeys, historic ruins and neolithic chambered tombs. For artistic interests, the co-owner, Mark Welland, displays some of his artwork on site, being happy to show and discuss his art with guests. Close by, Kirkcudbright (known as the area’s art town), has galleries, museums, cafés, a distillery and a planetarium. Good food and drink can be found in a variety of excellent local farm shops, distilleries, breweries, pubs, cafés and restaurants (many being ’dog friendly’), closest approximately 6 miles.

Wildlife is abundant here, with RSPB Mersehead Nature Reserve nearby and Whitecroft Farm having wild roe deer, hare, badgers, bats and numerous birdlife, e.g. red kites and nesting Barn Owls. The owners are happy for guests to meet the farm animals and join in with feeding, including our 2 Highland ’Coos’, tame sheep, or even take our Blacknose Swiss Valais sheep for a wee walk! Whilst ideal for Spring/Summer holidays, the cottages are perfect for cosy Autumn/Winter breaks, great for stargazing and cosying up around the fire.

Whilst most people go north in Scotland around The Highlands, Ben Nevis, Skye or Orkney, they miss out on the beautiful corner of South West Scotland and all it has to offer. Whether a place to stay over for a night or two or even a week, Whitecroft is a wonderful place to stay. Scenic Views across to The Lakes on a clear day and a peaceful setting with lots of Farm Animals grazing in the fields only add to this spectacular location. Dog friendly too! The hosts are extremely friendly and helpful.

Had a lovely week there, the people that own it are very friendly, the underfloor eating is a extra plus when going in winter and the fire was nice to have in the nights The area around was supper quiet and is what we wear after there are lots to do but there is a drive to everything which you expect, especially good for family as lots to do for kids.

The cottage was ideal for us. It was much larger than expected. Being in the countryside ( and very close to beach and towns ) it gave us what we wanted, a lovely quiet relaxing week. Loved it and will definitely be going back. I highly recommend Myrtle Cottage.

Cosy, well-furnished cottage in really peaceful surroundings. Only ten minutes drive from nearest shops in Dalbeattie, which is a meeting point for several major roads so it's possible to go north, south, east or west throughout Dumfries & Gallloway according to where the weather will be best. Close to Galloway Forest for those who are able to walk, but lots of other gardens and outdoor attractions for those less energetic, plus beaches for simple seaside enjoyment. Local people so friendly and helpful. Myrtle Cottage so well equipped, with satellite TV, DVD player and discs, and a full bookcase that, even if weather had kept us in, we could've relaxed in comfort and 'chilled' without boredom. Wish we had discovered this location before, as we would've made repeat visits.

What a fabulous place! Very friendly hosts that make you feel welcome without disturbing privacy. The farm is really peaceful- the view from the large garden is stunning! The garden was enclosed and safe for our small puppy who really appreciated such a great space to play. Lovely welcome basket - the best we’ve ever had - and encouraged us to shop more locally too which we really enjoyed. The cottage has everything you’d need and a great layout. Underfloor heating was MARVELLOUS- a toastie place on the chilliest of days. The local area is stunning, great for wildlife and walking. We are missing the tranquility and nighttime star gazing already! Thanks so much for having us, I’m sure we will be back!
