Stayed Oct 29, 2019VRBO search led us to this spectacular-view property. Listed tips: ---*extremely* glad we had a 4WD vehicle, lots of unpaved/hole- and trench-laden roads. ---Specific arrival directions were not sent until our arrival day, so access was limited while traveling; we found them after arrival. ---Montezuma itself is a very small town with a few restaurants, Mini-supers and B&B/hostels, mostly surfers and some locals; we would hesitate to drive in there after dark (which happens at around 6:00 pm) so dinner in town is out unless you can find a local ride or walk it (also dangerous). ---On-site caretaker, Santiago, speaks minimal English. ---anything we needed we had to WhatsApp with Peter who would then contact Santiago. Both are kind and well-intentioned, but some better oversight of the property would likely help ---a rough first night for a bunch of random reasons---the small bathroom sink faucet broke off the first time we tried to use it, no toaster as advertised (all our meals involved toast), no working oven/stove (unplugged apparently). Eventually all resolved, but few options to work around once you're there. ---Get groceries in town on the way in as told, cooking utensils/equipment are sparse. Plan to eat simply if you eat there. ---Owners' pool for use on property but was somewhat dirty The cabin is just that---a cabin---with very rustic interior and furnishings. It is very quaint, charming but not the cleanest; if you are prepared for near-camping it's fine, but we had not been, I guess. The shower is outside with limited warm water and flow (fine, it's private and enclosed), the WC is also outside the main cabin which is a trick at night. One must climb up a steep ladder to the sleeping loft and then crawl over to the mattress bed; ventilation provided by two screened windows on either side (which must be shut if any rain.). The deck, the patio and their view are OUTSTANDING, as is the abundant wildlife. In short, the owners/caretaker are kind, well-intentioned people. This place has a breathtaking view, as does the entire area. It is a commitment to be there and one is limited in realistic access due to travel (we were there during the rainy season, so may be better in dry). There are rough surf beaches and coasts to explore along with waterfalls. The cabin itself requires some tolerance and could use a good cleaning (dusty and musty). Would look at others with similar views for $110/night. But we made do!

Stayed Dec 17, 2017Bohu cabin at Montezuma heights was our getaway home for the Holidays and we couldn’t have asked for a much better location to enjoy the sights and sounds of the area. Peter and Rocio have created a great environment that from the spectacular sunrises to the star filled night sky you can relax the day away around the pool or on one of the many patio areas overlooking the forest below watching circling eagles and monkeys playing in the trees or take up some local hikes and activities that they happily provide information on. After visiting beaches, waterfalls and rainforests you can either put a meal together in your well equipped kitchen or check out some of the local restaurants from Montezuma or Cabuya for great bites and local craft beers.
