Stayed Mar 18, 2026After plane delayed by a power outage in Denver, we all got to our destinations (power delays impact planes, staff and passengers too). Unit was what I needed to recover from the flights, and angst. Bed was comfortable. Unit is spacious. Host is supportive. Area is beautiful and just what I needed to decompress. I would stay again next year!

Stayed Mar 10, 2026The host was there to greet me at check-in. He provided very good directions to the property and provided information about the area. During a very bad storm during my stay he provided me with candles and flashlights to use in case of a power failure. During the storm he kept me updated and made sure I was okay.

Stayed Dec 6, 2025We had a fantastic stay at Jim and Terry's Ohana house. beautiful property in the Captain Cook area... well landscaped and perfect view for the meteor shower. the hosts were very helpful with great suggestions for food and sightseeing. i really enjoyed hearing the coqui frogs sing me to sleep and the roosters wake me up! close to great snorkeling and kona. everything was clean and there were many amenities in the kitchen and bathroom that helped us out during our stay. beach gear also available to borrow. the kitchen had a toaster oven and microwave as well as coffee maker, fridge and freezer. i would come back here anytime!

Stayed Oct 28, 2025We had a wonderful stay! The host was responsive, welcoming, and truly thought of everything. The kitchen was very well-stocked, which made cooking so easy. The location is perfect! Close to Captain Cook and 2 Step Beach, which is hands down the best snorkeling on the island. We also loved the outdoor shower surrounded by jasmine-scented flowers—it was such a relaxing way to end each day. Would absolutely stay here again!

Stayed Oct 6, 2025Kitchen was fully equipped for a hotel room. I was led to believe it had a working television and some sort ofocean view, and it had neither. Maybe my fault but it seemed like the pictures were misleading and it was the size of a hotel room with a little kitchen. Down a very steep dark road you would never find it at night. I would pass.

Stayed Jul 26, 2025Jim was very kind & accommodating— allowed us to use some boogie boards for the beach & even offered more! Allowed a bit of an early check-in as we were out and about that day for quite a bit. The property is GORGEOUS. Even ran into a small problem on our end & Jim was very laid back & not worried about it. Highly recommend and wish we could have stayed for later.

Stayed Jun 26, 2025Stayed for a few nights during a longer stay on the island. We wanted a place outside of the main towns and near snorkeling and this was it! Super close to amazing snorkeling in Honaunau Bay and Kealakekua Bay. Easy access to Kona and the southern part of the island, coffee farms, and other great places. Jim was an amazing host, had great insight and is a genuinely great guy. Highly recommend! And the fresh limes and fruits from the property are an added bonus!

Stayed Apr 30, 2025We enjoyed our 4 day stay. Lots of privacy, clean and Jim and Terry were so accommodating. Loved sitting out on the patio surrounded by flowers. There is a beautiful view of the ocean from one side of the driveway and sunsets on the other. Lots of beautiful birds. The coqui frogs were loud at night, but beautiful calling to each other. Beware of the steep road leading to their driveway. I agree with other reviews that advised not going for the first time in the dark. We were thankful we followed their advice.

Stayed Mar 10, 2025We stayed three nights in the Pineapple Patch Cottage and we couldn't have picked a better spot for our time on the west side of the island. Each morning found us sitting at the patio table enjoying a fresh brew of Kona coffee. The cottage is simple but very homey and has what you need. And Jim is a wealth of information about the island. After being out all day seeing the sights-the Painted Church, the Peace Garden, Kaloko-Honokohau national historic park, many beaches, drives, views and cafes-we returned to grill our dinner and enjoy a bottle of wine. We're not fans of big fancy hotels. If you want to see Kailua-Kona like a local this is the place for you!

Stayed Feb 7, 2025This cottage is such a gem for one or two people. We really enjoyed staying here. The hosts were very nice and helpful with any questions we had both prior to our visit and during our stay. The place was super clean, the bed was comfortable with lots of different pillows for different likes and the hosts had so many items to use that one might need. The kitchen had a coffee pot and they even had some kona coffee in a sealed plastic container for us to use. We are snorkelers so we really liked the outdoor shower to rinse off our gear and to clean off without having to use the shower inside. They even had shampoo, conditioner and body wash outside for the shower (hot water too). The location was south of the airport in the country but close to the ocean with great scenery. The best snorkeling place was right down the road (where the parking was for the trail head). The hosts were very nice and if you book they send you so much useful information about the area and places to go so you can plan ahead. We really liked that. We recommend the free coffee tour with Greenwell Coffee, it's very informative with samples afterwards. If you like pizza, in the nearby town of Captain Cook, Black Rock Pizza is good (and we are from Chicago). Highly recommend you stay here, especially if you want to get away from the city. So peaceful! By the way, the dogs are greeters and sweethearts. We really didn't see much of them after we got the initial hello. We would definitely stay here again.

Stayed Feb 1, 2025My husband and I stayed for several days, and wish we could have stayed more. The accommodations are lovely, exceptionally neat, and our hosts clearly put a lot of thought into helping their guests have a fabulous stay. Because our visit was brief, we didn’t have the opportunity for many things, but we appreciated the local area knowledge and recommendations from our hosts. The cottage is nicely decorated and well stocked with anything we could need, the bed comfortable, and the quiet of the area was a valued respite. Communication was great and we felt very welcome. We loved this area of the coast and this property, and are resolved to return soon. Thank you!

We’ve been at this location several times now to enjoy peaceful days. It’s a perfect base from which to launch island explorations. We’ll miss the froggie chorus chirping us to sleep. Highly recommended for our needs.
