Mermaid Retreat, PET FRIENDLY, One Week Minimum Stay, Permit #0027

The property owner is not familiar with the federal and state law protections, Americans with Disabilities (ADA) of 1990. The property owner lives next door to the rental property and came over twice (1 - “to introduce herself” and uninvitedly stepped inside the rental property, asked that I keep my “dog” off the couch and to not use her blankets for the “dog” and suggested I should’ve brought my own. I let her know that the “dog” is a service animal and will comply with keeping him off the couch. 2 - to discuss the rental contract and request I pay a $50 pet fee. Again, I let her know that the “pet” she is referencing is a trained and registered service animal and that I am protected by federal and state law as a disabled person with a service animal. She said “that doesn’t matter”. I told her that I cannot help her in collecting a pet fee and going forward for the remainder of our stay all communication will be done through the proper channels of expedia/vrbo. She then accused me as sounding “hostile”. At this point, I felt uncomfortable and sensed her intent was to harass me for not paying a pet fee. The bathroom has a window that is permanently ajar, no curtains/blinds to allow privacy from the property owners residence next door, which is extremely close. The window has etched glass, however the window ajar exposed views of neighboring window on the property owners residence next door and all sounds from their back patio. All in all, I felt uncomfortable during my stay.

Due to a family emergency, I had to pull out at the last minute. But Barry was so understanding and helpful while I navigated the process. Have stayed here multiple times and would never stay anywhere else. Hope to rebook soon!

Our initial message was nice and welcoming. The property was as described and clean. They were accessible but we had no issues to contact them about. Location was also perfect, right by the coast for walks and sunrises.

This is such a unique and special place. The location is amazing, a two minute walk to the beach, a few more to coffee and restaurants. It is a quieter side of town which we enjoyed. It is a small but very comfortable, magical space. The bed was very comfortable and to my surprise the hideaway sofa bed was really comfortable!! Barry and Elizabeth were the most lovely hosts - we enjoyed meeting them and chatting, learning so much of the history of Monterrey. There are little nuggets all over the house - pictures, books, special pieces of art. The home was very well equipped, lots of attention to detail in what is provided. We will be back!

Walking distance to seals, the coast and downtown pacific grove. This was second stay for us and will be back again.

Very restful! We'll be back. Loved seeing baby seagulls on the rooftops of neighboring homes. Parents get a bit loud when they bring the young ones food. All part of the charm, no matter the hour!!!

We loved our stay at Mermaid Cove - perfect location for walking around Pacific Grove and even into some of Monterey. The place is silly and fun with all the mermaid decor but really well maintained and loved. :) Only two notes:—The bed is SUPER squeaky, even just to adjust it's quite loud/disruptive...might need some WD40—The wifi didn't work for us at all, we mostly used hotspots. Barry was able to restart the router but not until the last morning as we were leaving so it made getting some remote work done a little tricky.

This was my third visit and it never disappoints. The place is spotless, welcoming, and cozy. It is located in the perfect spot so that you can take long walks, visit Carmel, and hike in beautiful places.

Always a nice time in Pacific Grove. Walked 35 miles over 2 days and had great food downtown.Mermaid Retreat is so close to many things and has all you need.Amy

Overall very nice, charming easy to walk to Ocean front and nice walk all around. The street is like an alley behind the ocean front and very quiet. The views fine, nice patio and fully supplied kitchen. The sponge left was dirty and we left a new clean one. Relaxing space and an awesome place to explore even in the rain!

It's just what we've been looking for! A comfy, cozy place to call home near the Bay and within walking distance into town. Just the right size for the 2 of us and kitty too. Kitchen is small, but still able to prepare meals since it had everything we needed. We'll be back!!! Thank you Barry and Elizabeth for sharing this peaceful hideaway!

This property is a mermaid lover’s delight. But most importantly, is the location. It is a half block from the gorgeous waterfront with its many resident sea otters and beautiful walking trails along the bluff that go for miles. It is also an easy walk to the small downtown shops and restaurants so you can park the car for days. Even a doable walk to the Monterey Aquarium. A great place to stay!

Lovely cottage with great location in Pacific Grove just off the coastline trail with equal walking distance between Point Pinos and Monterey. Highly recommend!

Amazing. Loved riding bikes to aquarium and back for lunch and then bike back to aquarium. Loved walking fifty steps and being at ocean trail and seeing seals and sea otters!

We love the Mermaid Retreat! It's a perfect location, close to downtown and nice restaurants. And walking along the ocean for miles never gets old, including the spectacular sunsets just around the corner. It just feels like home away from home.

We had the best time at the mermaid retreat! The walking path is amazing, we really enjoyed watching the dolphins, otters, and seals. It’s a geat location, walking distance to delicious restaurants, lovers point is really cool- the surf was up and it was entertaining watching the surfers. Easy check in, perfect space for the wife and I and our dog.

We always enjoy our stay at the Mermaid retreat! Walking the beautiful trail never gets old. We didn’t need any assistance but Barry and Elizabeth are readily available if needed.

Been looking at this listing for over ten years and finally hit it with my time and a vacancy... not disappointed. Awesome location, clean, simple accommodations. Only thing that would improve the experience is a new mattress...

This was a return stay for us, as we were here two months ago. The property is perfect, and very comfortable. Barry and Elizabeth are great to know. We are planning on returning soon.

My sister and I had a wonderful time at Mermaid Retreat. This lovely place is all about a beautiful location! It was clean and really love the new hardwood floor in the bedroom. Loved the upgraded TV and comfortable new mattress. We were walking distance to the best restaurant “Beach House”. The owners are friendly and responsive. This property has everything that you will need for a wonderful vacation! Fantastic location! Clean and comfortable.

We stayed a number of years ago, and finally returned for a stay. The home is very clean, well appointed, and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay very much, and are looking for when we can return.

Homey and all basic needs met. The space was very clean, but dated. We missed the messages sent by the owner because I didn't recognize the name and it looked like spam. The location is central to many things, and very close to the beach the street is more of ,an all it worked out.

Because of a family situation, we had to cancel at literally the last minute. At 4 am, Barry immediately acknowledged my message, offered to help us get our money back through VRBO, and followed through in less than a couple of hours. We cannot say enough kind words about the host and his generosity in this situation. This would have been a repeat visit - we stayed at the Mermaid House a couple of years ago. Highly recommended.

A great location for a two week escape from the Arizona summer heat. Walking distance to Lovers Point, downtown PG, Aquarium and walking/running paths. The property is cozy, but fine for two adults and one very happy dog.

The summer cabin was absoulty adorable. The property was as described. Being 1 block from the beach and 2 miles from the Aquarium was the perfect match. There wereseveral little ussues, many of the small night lights didn't work, the light/fan in the s
