Mermaid Cottage, Carbis Bay - a house that sleeps 8 guests in 4 bedrooms

We spent an enjoyable week in Mermaid Cottage. The house was warm, even though we had horizontal hail on a couple of days. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well-equipped. It is also very well located for walking and access by train to St. Ives - lots to see and do! However, there are a number of things to note. There is no door from the hall into the kitchen / dining room, so it is impossible to shut a dog in that room at night. There is a stair gate but that is broken. Luckily, our dog is trained not to go upstairs, but there was nothing physical to stop it doing so. Also, the house description shows a rug in the living room which is no longer in the house. I’m sure that a rug would make the room a little cosier. There is only one sofa, although the description states two sofas. Finally, we were expecting Freeview on the televisions as in the house description, but, after checking with the housekeeper, it doesn’t work. We could only watch on iplayer etc and our own Netflix subscription. All these issues could be easily resolved and the house would be even better!

A spacious 4 bedroomed holiday home in an excellent location. Close to the beach and you can get the train to St Ives very close by. The kitchen was well equipped and living room relaxing. The garden wasn’t suitable for children and needs some TLC.

We absolutely loved staying in Mermaid Cottage. The house was absolutely spotless including the fridge, dishwasher etc... I could see that the cleaner had been meticulous. The location is perfect with just a few minutes stroll from Carbis bay beach in one direction and Porthkidney beach in the other. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed and the lounge was very comfortable and relaxing. The beds were really comfortable and the whole cottage had really good storage. We will definitely look to stay again in the future.

Property felt unloved and photos made it look a lot better than it was. Garden very unkept, lawn not cut. Door handles falling off. No welcome pack or any instructions for the house. I would not return to this property. Felt over charged for what it was.

Lovely break away, property was clean inside and lovely location. Couple of things. Garden had not been checked as very deceased rat on lawn, been there a long time and was disgusting to have to bag up after dog had found it. Someone elses full poo bags also out there. Couple of bulbs missing with no replacements and also we couldnt get on freesat no connection available. Owner also has blocked gutter above front door, large amounts of water cascading down.

We stayed at Mermaid Cottage in October and were blessed with lovely weather. This meant we could take advantage of all the places we wanted to visit that were either in walking distance, a short train ride or a drive within 1 hour. The South West Coastal path is a few minutes walk from the door step and the train station a 10 minute walk and only a 4 minutes ride to St Ives. The house is a warm and welcoming home, with a lovely kitchen with a large table perfect for families to share meals and a sheltered and private garden. The living room has a big comfy sofa and the bedrooms have insanely comfortable beds. The front bedroom has a view of the sea, beaches and coastline. It really was a lovely home to spend our Cornwall break and we wouldn't hesitate in returning for another holiday. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Mermaid Cottage was a lovely home - ideal for our group of ladies and so close to the beach (we spent every day on the beach) Versatile as all rooms bar the sofa bed could be spilt into singles. Great size kitchen and dining table meant we had fun evening meals together. Would recommend for.a by group of friends or a family. Great communication and def would book.again.

Nice little cottage in a great location. Ideal for leaving your car and exploring Carbis bay & St Ives. Perfect for dog owners as there is a dog friendly beach within 1 mile.
