Vacationers enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the miles of pristine sandy beaches and sparkling waters of Lake Michigan.
The cottage is within walking distance of Big Red Lighthouse, Piper Restaurant and Macatawa Bay Yacht Club.. It is a 20 minute drive to Saugatuck, where you can enjoy perusing the lovely shops and art galleries, and a 15 minute drive to Holland, home to Hope College and more delightful shopping. It is also home to the bountiful Holland Farmers Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays during the summer season.
The Recess has 4 bedrooms, 3 of which have queen sized beds and 1 double bed. It also has TV, WiFi and telephone, as well as a washer and dryer.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the fluctuations and cyclical rising and falling of Lake Michigan, the size or condition of the beach CANNOT be guaranteed.
Gorgeous. The pictures don’t do the property justice. The best view on Lake Michigan. Kyle was beyond friendly and contactable. No beach this year, it will come back, but the little beach to the North was just fine. The house was equipped with everything you would need for the week. Kyle’s was kind with leaving us a snack tray, blackberries and his homemade jam. Cupboards were filled with extras for you to use. I love this when renting as you don’t have to run to the store for everything. Beautiful touches. I have rented on VRBO from CA to Massachusetts, this house, and the view, was just something! Did I mention the view. ? The steps and parking are a bit of a challenge. But we did it. Someone with older family members may have a harder time. 10 am check out was a little early, but got us moving! Simple updates would be well suited for this house, but nonetheless charming beyond.
This is a perfect place to get away from it all. Very private-I never saw or heard a neighbor. I stayed with my daughter, son-in-law and two grandkids for a fun filled, relaxing week. There was enough room for all of us to have a private bedroom, which were decorated in mid-century furnishings and details. The bathroom has a claw foot tub, sink and medicine cabinet, again original mid-century. The owner has worked magic in making the smaller spaces feel comfortably spacious and still retaining the feel of the original beach house. It goes without saying, the beach and lake are breathtaking. The entire family enjoyed playing in the lake daily, utilizing the beach toys, chairs, beach umbrella, towels and sun screen provided by the owner. We grilled out on the huge new gas grill, washed beach towels and swim suits in the new commercial size washer and dryer and relaxed with the books, games and cable TV thoughtfully proved by the owner. We walked the beach to the light house, which was just a short walk away. One caveat-if you struggle with stairs, be aware the walk from the parking space to the house requires a number of steps, as does the access to the beach and the upstairs of the house. There is a bed and half bath on the main floor of the house to avoid stairs, and a grassy area above the beach to sit and enjoy the view of the lake without descending stairs to the beach. This was the best vacation ever!!
This beach house is was everything we could have wished for and more. The owner is very friendly and supplies you with a lot of small things within the house so you don't have to worry about packing so much of the little things. There are also a bunch of fun beach accessories we used just about everyday that were a wonderful bonus, the paddle board, kayak, giant float, and super comfortable tommy bahama beach chairs were the best! The house is set apart from the rest on the beach in that it is very private and you literally walk your path over the small dune and you are in the lake. You can't see any of the neighbors from the beach patio, and he has a great sound system set up so that you can relax to your music and enjoy a fire pit while down there. There is a view of the lake from every bedroom upstairs, no one cared which room they got because they were all comfortable and had their own unique view. We had family and friends that were staying in other cottages in Macatawa Park and it was very convenient to walk the beach to get to those cottages. My nephews were big fans of the Wii game console and board games in the living room to use on the one rainy day we had. Even in the rain this is an amazing cottage because of the huge front windows that let you watch a storm roll through. We really couldn't have had a better time staying at this cottage for the week, the memories we will recall forever, and are already looking forward to returning next summer!
Great place for family vacation with children of all ages. If you like to be active, just relax, or a bit of both this is the cottage for you. Everything you need is provided. You literally only need clothing and food. It is an older cottage with much character. The location is very private with amazing views of Lake Michigan, beautiful sunsets! Great place to relax and have fun. The owner is very hospitable and easy to work with. Lastly, we found it to be very clean!
This lovely cottage is in a location that cannot be surpassed. It is right on the beach and I mean right on the beach. You walk outside and there you are on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. My husband and I are beach people so we loved it and spent almost every afternoon on the beach and in the lake. We also enjoyed exploring Holland, Saugatuck and Grand Haven. There are plenty of restaurants in Holland although they do get crowded if you stay on the beach until evening and then try to go out as we did. There is a great little grocery store nearby with a wonderful butcher so we cooked out alot. The owner provides lots of recreational toys for your use and plenty of beach chairs. If you like the beach and the lake I would highly recommend this cottage.
For a house that is directly on the beach with wonderful views and a convenient location to several towns and cities, it is perfect. This is a well kept and quaint home with many original features in a wonderful location. It has plenty of room for a family and is well-equipped. But If you are looking for brand new, up to date remodeled vacation home, this is not what you would be happy with. I would say it would not necessarily be a relaxing place for small children. We are a family of all adults so it was great for us.
