Surrounded by the gentle grace of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this stunning lakefront home is the real 'On Golden Pond.' The lakefront mountain retreat is nestled on a private, 1+ acre wooded lot in Sherwood Forest, a 1000 acre Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary with only 200 houses, in Brevard, NC. Relax, watch and enjoy the natural surroundings of the lake and mountains and look for the white squirrels local to the area. Golf awaits on the 18-hole, par three course with pro shop (open year round). You may also swim in the heated junior Olympic-size pool, play tennis, pickleball or basketball, hike on any of the 22 miles of well-marked hiking trails located within the neighborhood, and enjoy the five lakes for fishing, swimming or canoeing (canoe, paddles, and life vests are provided for use). Lakes are stocked with bass and bluegill with no fishing license required. There are ping pong and swings for the kids.

The cabin is beautifully furnished and features 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths with two master bedrooms each with its own full private bath plus one additional bedroom and additional full bath downstairs. Ideally no more than 6 full-sized individuals. There is also central air conditioning/heat, a fully-equipped brand new kitchen with new appliances, a wood burning fireplace in the living room, vaulted ceilings, and a new glassed-in sunroom with a gas fireplace, a screened-in porch and outside decks all overlooking the lake. For your entertainment there are 3 HD flat-screened televisions with satellite service with pay-for-view and a DVD player plus lots of games. And for your convenience, there is wireless internet and a full laundry with washer and dryer.

Our lakefront mountain retreat is located only ten minutes from DuPont State Forest and Caesar's Head State Park with its incredible waterfalls, over 80 miles of hiking and mountain bike trails, and amazing overlooks. You are also within 10 miles from the Pisgah National Forest where you will find the Davidson River which boast more trophy trout per mile than any other stream in the country and unbelievable waterfalls. There is also tubing, rafting, horsebacking and Sliding Rock!

Brevard truly has something for everyone besides the 250 named waterfalls and hundreds of acres of the six state and national forests that surround it: There is also a thriving music and arts community, fantastic shopping, and outstanding dining in this charming Appalachian town. You may also want to visit The Flat Rock Playhouse, Biltmore Estate, and Carl Sandburg home that are but a few of the nearby cultural attractions. Visit and you'll understand why Rand McNally, The Wall Street Journal and National Geographic Traveler name this area one of America's top ten places to live and play.

Oh my goodness what a wonderful place! Paula was a perfect host, very quick to respond and in no way obtrusive. The house was wonderful with quality furnishings and beds, NOT the cheap, uncomfortable things many others use. The neighborhood was lovely and safe, and a very convenient base. I am looking forward to visiting again soon!

Beautifully decorated and stocked home ready for any adventure. We enjoyed nearby hiking and canoeing, and shopping in downtown brevard. Gorgeous views while sipping coffee in the screened in porch including a small family of deer!

Very clean and as represented. Owners very responsive. Having the separate downstairs bedroom and bath makes it good for guests and children. Kitchen well stocked. The lake is very child friendly so this would be a good house for children. Easy 20 minutes drive to Brevard or Hendersonville. We would rent again!

Our recent stay at the house in Brevard, NC, offered a mix of delightful aspects and some significant disappointments. On the positive side, the location was fantastic, providing easy access to several wonderful hiking trails, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The HOA amenities were a definite highlight; the golf course and pool were excellent, and the pickleball court was quite decent, adding to our recreational options. However, several issues impacted our overall experience. The first was the drained lake directly in front of the house. This not only ruined what should have been a pleasant view but also rendered the canoe unusable, which was a major letdown. Apparently this is a temporary problem, but we would have liked to have been notified before booking about this issue.Cleanliness was also a serious concern upon arrival. We were greeted by approximately 50 flies in the basement. While we were fortunate not to need the third bedroom immediately, having to run through the basement to avoid the flies was far from ideal. We eventually traced the fly problem to a trashcan and were able to move it outside, which helped reduce the issue. The owner was responsive and sent a maid, who did clean out the maggot-infested trashcan, but the flies already in the house were not addressed. Additionally, we found the towels seemed old, and there was a lack of essential supplies like extra trash bags and sufficient detergent for both the dishwasher and laundry. In summary, while the house

Nice home with 3 comfortable master suites. Screened in patio was so nice to use even in the warmest part of the day because surrounded by trees. Washer and dryer and kitchen with all necessary appliances. Very comfortable living room and dining room plus roomy bar area. Very quiet neighborhood with 2 lovely lakes within walking distance. Great places to walk almost all shaded. Only downside was the nearest lake's dam was being repaired, so we couldnt use it.

We enjoyed Paula's place a great deal. Paula was an attentive host. She checked in to make sure we arrived and knew our way around. The email she sent ahead of time was invaluable and informative. The house is laid out perfectly. Everyone had their own bathroom and bedroom. The house was warm and inviting. The kitchen was stocked and the neighborhood is so peaceful and quiet. Be sure to check out the stars at night. Gorgeous.

The highlight of this place are the deer that visit daily. Sherwood Forest feels like something out of a fantasy movie like lord of the rings. Also, if you go at the right time you can see the blue ghost fireflies. Our miniature poodle loved the walks. We met many of the residents and they gave us some suggestions on what to see and where to eat. The biggest thing you will notice is the place is how quiet and friendly people are. Don’t miss out on downtown Brevard. It is a cute mountain town with old time charm. The host was very helpful and kept open communication. They would text us to make sure we are doing ok or if we needed something. This was our first VRBO experience and this place did not disappoint.
