Brevard, North Carolina
Surrounded by the gentle grace of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this stunning lakefront home is the real 'On Golden Pond.' The lakefront mountain retreat is nestled on a private, 1+ acre wooded lot in Sherwood Forest, a 1000 acre Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary with only 200 houses, in Brevard, NC. Relax, watch and enjoy the natural surroundings of the lake and mountains and look for the white squirrels local to the area. Golf awaits on the 18-hole, par three course with pro shop (open year round). You may also swim in the heated junior Olympic-size pool, play tennis, pickleball or basketball, hike on any of the 22 miles of well-marked hiking trails located within the neighborhood, and enjoy the five lakes for fishing, swimming or canoeing (canoe, paddles, and life vests are provided for use). Lakes are stocked with bass and bluegill with no fishing license required. There is ping pong and swings for the kids.
The cabin is beautifully furnished and features 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths with two master bedrooms each with its own full private bath plus one additional bedroom and additional full bath downstairs. Ideally no more than 6 full-sized individuals. There is also central air conditioning/heat, a fully-equipped brand new kitchen with new appliances, a wood burning fireplace in the living room, vaulted ceilings, and a new glassed-in sunroom with a gas fireplace, a screened-in porch and outside decks all overlooking the lake. For your entertainment there are 3 HD flat-screened televisions with satellite service with pay-for-view and 2 DVD players plus lots of games. And for your convenience, there is wireless internet and a full laundry with washer and dryer.
Our lakefront mountain retreat is located only ten minutes from DuPont State Forest and Caesar's Head State Park with its incredible waterfalls, over 80 miles of hiking and mountain bike trails, and amazing overlooks. You are also within 10 miles from the Pisgah National Forest where you will find the Davidson River which boast more trophy trout per mile than any other stream in the country and unbelievable waterfalls. There is also tubing, rafting, horsebacking and Sliding Rock!
Brevard truly has something for everyone besides the 250 named waterfalls and hundreds of acres of the six state and national forests that surround it: There is also a thriving music and arts community, fantastic shopping, and outstanding dining in this charming Appalachian town. You may also want to visit The Flat Rock Playhouse, Biltmore Estate, and Carl Sandburg home that are but a few of the nearby cultural attractions. Visit and you'll understand why Rand McNally, The Wall Street Journal and National Geographic Traveler name this area one of America's top ten places to live and play.

Cute, well appointed home in Sherwood Forest. Great Lake view and hiking trails. Easy access to Brevard, Dupont, and Pisgah. Host was super communicative and make the process easy.
We had a great experience staying in this home for a December hiking weekend with our family. The home is clean, comfortable, and has a well stocked kitchen. We cooked several meals at home while watching movies and playing games. With under a 15 minute drive, we were at the trail head to hiked to four waterfalls and a covered bridge. With a 10min drive we were shopping in Brevard. We also enjoyed the pickle ball courts. There are some nearby shops with delicious food and coffee. On our way out of the community we spotted a local white squirrel!
Beautiful home on peaceful lake. Very easy to access local hikes and biking trails. We had an excellent stay.
we enjoyed hiking the trails of the forest
The cleanliness of this rental surpassed expectations. The rental was well furnished and the kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked with needed supplies. The only negative was the area lacked cell phone service. We connected to Wi-fi and Wi-fi calling and finally got service in the rental, but there was no service for approx. 5-8 miles in all directions surrounding the rental. Would recommend this house if you're looking for seclusion, cleanliness, being on the lake, and a short trip to Brevard.
The house was great. Location was close to Dupont and town. Loved fishing in the lakes and hiking the trails in the neighborhood. Saw some previous posts about water pressure and lumpy beds but we had no issues. Water pressure was better than at home and mattresses were very comfortable.
We enjoyed the neighborhood and the lake. The house was well appointed and comfortable. The distance to Brevard made it easy to go into town or out to eat. All in all, a very enjoyable trip.
Great location with quiet property. Very nice for two couples or family with each having their own bathroom. Enjoyed our stay.
The property is located in a really beautiful and natural area, which is conveniently located near downtown Brevard. The property faces a lake which was serene and great for fishing and boating. In all our family had a really great, relaxing trip.
Renovated cabin with lakefront views. Great privacy and location to hiking and ten minutes from Brevard. A side trip to Waynesville and going through the shops was fun. Mountain trout at the Mt. Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge was great, along with the different hikes to local waterfalls. Enjoyable experience all the way around.
My parents were visiting from out of state and we had a magical Fall weekend here!
This was our second stay in this property and it exceeded our expectations. The kitchen renovation was a nice improvement and added to our enjoyment. This community is beautiful and friendly. Great hikes nearby and very convenient to Brevard. Thanks for another wonderful week in WNC!!
A quiet soothing retreat after a day of hiking, exploring waterfalls, fly fishing, and enjoying all that Brevard and its environs have to offer. The view of the lake is restful and even sitting in the screened porch on a rainy day is wonderful.
Beautiful property with plenty of on-site amenities. House had all the comforts of home. I do wish the llamas were caddying while we were there ;) at the golf course but that is out of the property owner’s control.
This is one of our favorite vacation houses EVER. This was our second stay at GOOSE ROOST. It is the perfect size for our family, in the perfect location---we love being on the lake and walking distance to some of the most beautiful and well maintained hiking trails on Cedar Mountain. It feels private and secluded, but also we enjoyed meeting other residents and vacationers who were walking by. We love the swimming pool, the cool weather, and the fact that we can bring our dog! It is near Brevard, Dupont, Pisgah--so many adventures. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home!
This property has much to offer the outdoor enthusiast! We brought bikes, fishing gear and paddle boards for fun without getting into a car! Just walk out the door for hiking/biking trails and fishing/paddling. If that’s not enough you can find shopping in Brevard and waterfalls and breathtaking views from the many close state parks. The house itself had plenty of room for our family of 6 and one furry family member as well as all our gear! The kitchen was spacious enough and we spent most of our inside time on the screened porch. There were some areas that weren’t clean to my specifications (remembering I’m picky and it is pet friendly) but would not deter me from using the property again.
Great stay. Great Lake canoe hiking trails. Perfect for family and a dog. Quiet neighborhood. Came as billed. Highly recommend. Would love to stay again!!
