Additionally, Gibbs Beach is a 5 min stroll away. It is a typical picture-postcard Caribbean setting.
All beaches in Barbados are 'Public Beaches' and Gibbs Beach has a public access point. The beach has no commercial activities going on. Gibbs Palms is mainly set for holidaying adults. Babyproofing has not been part of the setup. Children 6 and up would do perfectly fine.
Other things to note
Besides the older bicycles, there is an older 2 person Kayak at the house. It involves a bit of organization and fitness to transport for use at the beach. If you are wanting to use the kayak please contact me ahead for the logistics of use.
The Gibbs Glade area is an upwardly mobile residential neighbourhood. The homes are a mix of professionals, seasonal homes, and vacation rental houses.
You can rent a car from the airport or have one sent to the house. Some guests do not rent a vehicle and take the local busses everywhere. (BBD 3.50 each way) For Shopping Speightstown is 3 km north and Holetown 6 km south.
Gibbs Palms is delightful, peaceful and tranquil, set in very private beautiful gardens a very short walk to one of the most breathtaking beaches on Barbados, Gibbs Beach. Perfectly situated for all the amenities of the West Coast, comes highly recommended !
We had a great week at Gibbs Palms. A simple quiet cottage with a short walk to one of the nicest and less populated beaches on the west coast. Lots of space inside and out. The cottage has everything you need to relax, hit the beach and to cook for yourself. AC there but never had to use it. Host was always readily available (though not much need to contact him as everything well set up and explained). We did not have a car and didn't feel we needed one.
Good communication with management, very clean and tidy, the amenities were plentiful as were the mango and lime trees. Terrific location for a beach getaway and good security system.
Would we stay there again? Yes please! Excellent communication from before we arrived: Dave (super tall taxi-van driver) met us at the airport even though we were an hour late (LIAT for you), then took us to a supermarket; Viv was there to explain & handover to Shaneisha as he was away for a while; Rob was always in contact if Viv couldn't help. Excellent house: welcoming, huge outdoor covered verandahs which became our default living area with the fans on - it was pretty hot and humid; AC in the bedrooms at night; fully equipped kitchen, great to have a water filter tap & coffee filters - so nice to have the food essentials left by previous guests; we used the kayak often; loads of towels etc. Great BBQ, also used nearly every day (fresh but frozen fish from the fish market, yum). Jordan's Supermarket dropped us off after a big shop, so that was handy. We managed the week with only public transport. Excellent Gibbs beach nearby: we were super lucky to see turtles hatching just after sunset on our last evening. Also great for snorkelling even for beginners as the fish and low rocks are close inshore. But also sandy areas if you just want to swim (and quiet at all times of the day when we were there). One needs to use the outdoor shower by the back as the sand is very sticky on sunblock and hides everywhere. Folkestone Marine Beach (bus ride south) was great for snorkelling too, although the showers weren't working, and it is quite popular in the evenings. We didn't see any turtles but lots of other marine life. Beers pricey. Buses easy to use and can certainly be an adventure (beware if the music is really loud, the driver may be racing the bus behind. Or maybe that was just our experience!) Now $3.50/trip since July 2019. Mullins beach has a small bar, but no food when we were there. Chris's place (15mins uphill stroll from the house) has great food. Cons: nothing to do with Gibbs Palms per se. We were out of season so it was pretty hot and humid (over 32 degrees C some days) and didn't really cool down at night. Result: very hungry and voracious mosquitos and sandflies and other biting insects. We used about a bottle of spray each in a week. Although the house is ideal for the beach and even a hot walk into Speightstown, it was off-season, so not many food options in walking distance. But we managed! Lucky for the next guests the mangoes in the garden weren't ripe yet, as we'd have eaten them all. The limes were delicious in our drinks...
Enjoyed Barbados, House was more than expected.
This was our second stay and everything just gets better. Thank you Rob and Honor. The house was wonderful, we loved the new bedroom colour and the new gas BBQ. The classic brick one was a challenge for us. We will always go in June now because it is so wonderfully quiet and relaxing. Gibbes beach was ours most days to walk, swim and enjoy to ourselves. The people are so friendly around the island and glad to see you because of the fewer tourists around. The mangoes were insane all around the island! The tree in the yard produces the tastiest we have ever had. More than we could eat, we could not keep up with them. Making mango banana smoothies and sometimes daiquiris was a glorious daily treat. It is only about 2 degrees warmer than in the winter and 100 times nicer than at home this time of year. We are going to work out the details to get back next year. Thanks Again. Terry and Julie
An excellent property, slightly off the beaten track but close to everything you need. the property manager is easily available if you need anything and the grounds are very private and peaceful.
This is the fifth year we have rented Gibbs Palms, ranging from three-week to six-week stays. We love the more traditional style of this cottage, with the relaxing garden and closeness to Gibbs Beach, which is only a five minute walk away. The owners, Rob and Honor continue to make annual improvements to the cottage. It's always a relaxing, chill out stay for us on the island, and we are already planning to re-book for 2020.
Wow! What a great five-week stay at Gibbs Palms in Barbados! It is not our first stay here, but it was our very best. We have always loved Gibbs Palms, but the most recent improvements have made it our perfect home away from home. The recent addition of air conditioning in the two bedrooms along with kitchen and master bathroom upgrades and new light fixtures in the living room were greatly appreciated. The patios and the yard remain among the highlights of this modestly priced rental. There is no better bargain for staying so close to one of the best beaches on the West Coast of Barbados. This is one property that is actually better than described and better than the pictures! Highly recommended! We will be back- already booked for five weeks next year!
Gibbs Palms was the best location for our circling of the island. My wife and I went to experience as many Barbados beaches this trip as we could. An easy location to get to and at the end of each enjoyable day, at one beach or another, we could come home to relax. The outdoor shower was appreciated, we could get the sand out of the nooks and crannies on our return each day. Gibbs Beach is also a wonderful beach, we spent time there also when resting from our explorations. Not many beaches better than Gibbs. We also got home late and tired many times, instead of cooking we found we could order in from the Speightstown chinese (East Moon), or pizza places (Pizzaman Doc or Zacchios). The house was immaculate on arrival and is bright, cheery and welcoming. We love Barbados and Gibbs Palms is highly recommended by us.
