Summary:
This spacious and cozy parsonage turned cottage is sure to leave you feeling refreshed and reset. Come and enjoy a little R&R with family on a get away to the mountains!
The Space:
Our home sits on a lush green yard surrounded by black raspberry bushes and bordering our property you will find an abundance of apple trees. Just behind the tree line in the backyard you will find a path leading you to the stream. Pack your water shoes and enjoy the relaxing sounds of the creek rushing. We are minutes from accessing the Creeper Trail so be sure to bring your bikes or reach out to a rental company about bike rentals. The Creeper trail is perfect for enjoying a nature walk as well. Outside you will find our gas grill, porch with plywood dining furniture and seating for seven.
Inside the home you will find two bedrooms downstairs with a full bathroom and two bedrooms upstairs with a full bathroom. Let's talk about downstairs first! This home has full kitchen with everything you need for preparing meals at home. In the kitchen we have a small breakfast nook area with seating for three and in the dining room we have an additional seating area. Our living room is the perfect place for a movie night with a fire or to just simply sit and catch up! This home has fast internet and a smart TV with streaming capabilities. We have an additional room downstairs that we have set up with a side table and lounge chair, a great space for reading or taking a private phone call. Both bedrooms downstairs feature queen size beds.
Upstairs you will find the primary bedroom with a king size bed. The guest bedroom has a queen size bed as well and again, a full bathroom. Though we do not have central air we do have ceiling fans and window units.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the whole house including the unfinished basement featuring an air hockey table.
The Neighborhood:
We are in the rural area of Konnarock in Damascus, VA. To our right are cows and acres and acres of pasture and to our left is a church, side note our house used to be this church's parsonage! The area is very remote though we do have a few local convenience stores and shops.
• Konnarock Store and Gas
• Green Cove Collective
We are close by multiple hiking trails such as
• Creeper Trail
• Grayson Highlands
• Appalachian Trail
• Buzzard Rock
Getting Around:
As mentioned earlier we are minutes from accessing the Creeper Trail. Also very close by is Grayson Highlands, a beautiful hiking spot famous for their wild ponies! We also highly recommend hiking Buzzard Rock.

We recently stayed at the parsonage, three generations, and enjoyed it immensely. Everything was exactly as stated in the description. It was clean, comfortable, and easily accessible. The host gave clear directions throughout the whole booking process. We enjoyed a fire by the amazing babbling brook, and my grandchildren had so much fun playing air hockey in the basement. The only drawback was the strong smell of bug spray upon entry each time. Other than that, it was wonderful, and I highly recommend it to anyone.
We wanted someplace near Grayson State Park to stay. This property was perfect for us and our 2 dogs. It was clean and had everything we needed. We ate every meal on the side porch. We made 2 nighttime fires in the fire pit. The beds were comfortable and the sheets smelled so good. The kitchen had everything we needed. The dishes were pottery dishes and so pretty. It was so nice to open the windows and let the fresh air in. The road to Grayson State Park and Damascus was really winding but we got used to it.
What a fabulous property to enjoy nature! So close to the creeper trail and Appalachian trail! One afternoon there was a deer in the yard and he/she hung around for a bit and not to mention the 11 species of birds i counted with my app. So amaxing , we will definitely be back!
Charming place in the country. Stream at the back of the property and a friendly country store/deli about 800’ away? I’d go back in a heartbeat!
Home was wonderful for our visit. Close enough to Damascus and Abingdon for a day trip each way. The cost for the cottage was appropriate Plenty of space inside and out for our 4 person family. WiFi worked great...smart TV was good size and easy to use Departure and cleaning requests were very appropriate and not excessive (we have experienced excessive cleaning requirements with other rentals recently...so this was a pleasant experience) Very clean and bright home, nicely renovated, beds very comfortable, and ample high quality linens provided. Overall a very enjoyable experience for our family outing. :-)
Wanted to spend a couple of nights in the greater Damascus area to visit the parks, charming Damascus and other outdoor areas. The Parsonage is located in Konnarock, about 20 or so minutes from Damascus, and 30 minutes from Grayson Highlands State Park. Nestled in a valley it's a charming house. Plenty of room for a family, well-appointed and very comfortable. Wi-Fi was very nice. Big, comfortable yard, great outdoor seating, plenty of room to spread out inside...it's the ideal home away from home. Tip: walk to the the Konnarock Store and Gas (1/4 mi. or so) if you need anything...including freshly prepared breakfast sandwiches (delicious!) and things you forgot to bring. Didn't have a dinner there, but reviews for that are very good, too. In an age when so many country stores are closing, or have been shutterd, here is an honest-to-goodness country store with friendly people and great food. This is a beautiful part of Virginia...and the Parsonage is a lovely place to enjoy all the area has to offer.
The house is comfortable. The creek is great - the boys spent 5 days playing in it. (Including the day we left). The Konnarock and Danascus communities are awesome. We enjoyed the Damascus 4th celebration and then enjoyed the Konnarock 4th parade. The grandkids had a blast and so did the dog.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Creeper Trail mini vacation! The Parsonage was a perfect home away from home for our family and extended family of four adults, two young teens and a nine year old! The kids loved playing in the creek, sitting around the fire and playing hide and seek in the very large yard! The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped and the location was peaceful and perfect! We drove six miles to Elk Gardens, hiked a short distance on the AT and saw stunning panoramic views and three wild ponies! Great place to stay for kid friendly and adult friendly activities!
This cottage may look small from the outside but it has so much space. Our family was able to spread out and relax. The Wi-Fi reaches throughout the home and the Roku TV had all sorts of things to watch. It was also convenient to have a washer and dryer to come back to after hiking in the cold rain. We very much enjoyed our stay.
We had a wonderful little getaway at Parsonage on the River. The home is well kept and clean. The property sits on a beautiful stream. When driving through the mountains there is little to no phone reception so ensure you have the directions downloaded prior to getting into the mountains. But the home and location are perfect. I would highly recommend!!
