Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania
Our cottage is a comfy little place right on Lake Carey in Tunkhannock, PA**. The cottage has a screened in mud-room, kitchen, full bathroom, living room, 2 bedrooms, a 'lake room' with breakfast nook and a deck overlooking the lake. Each bedroom has a full size bed. The living room has a pull-out couch that is also full sized and if needed, there is space in the living room for an inflatable mattress. Overall the cottage can sleep 6 people very comfortably, 8 in a pinch.
Outdoors we have a large fire pit and a floating dock. We have 3 kayaks (2 single, 1 tandem) and a row boat available for use (all on premises only), as well as some fishing poles and tackle available to be used on premises (PA permit required. Information can be provided.)
Our cottage is not fancy, but it is comfortable and homey, and we love it that way. Located at the top of one of the Endless Mountains, it is very secluded, but only a 10 minute drive from all your creature comforts including grocery stores, a movie theater, several fantastic restaurants and even a Super Walmart. You wouldn't guess it when you are at the cottage though, it is so peaceful. A wonderful place to unplug and enjoy the sunshine. We did install Wi-Fi by popular request, just in case you don't want to completely unplug.
Speaking of creature comforts and unplugging, not to worry. There is plenty to do and see if kicking back with a good book isn't your thing:
- Fishing. It is huge in the area as the lake is part of the Susquehanna River Valley and is stocked at the beginning of the season with trout, but also has a ton of carp, bass (small and large mouth), pickerel, cat fish, sunnies, maybe more. At dusk, the carp jumping for bugs is pretty cool to watch. Fishing permits are required and are available online. I can provide you a link to the PA website for more information.
- Kayaking/Boating. We have two individual kayaks and one tandem kayak. Our side of the lake is smaller and shallow, which makes it nice for beginners. If you are a bit more advanced, you can paddle on over to the big side of the lake, and take on the much stronger current. It is not permitted to use the kayaks anywhere other than Lake Carey. If you have your own and want a true challenge, you can take it down the mountain and take on an a more serious challenge . . . the Susquehanna herself. For those who may want to bring out more than one or two people, or may not be comfy in a kayak, we also have a nice, big metal row boat that seats 4.
- Golf. There are two PGA rated golf courses at the bottom of the mountain. One is about 10 minutes away (Shadowbrook) and the other 15 minutes away (Stone Hedge). There are also 2 miniature golf courses and a driving range within minutes of the house as well. Greens fees fluctuate, both courses have websites I can direct you to.
- Hiking. The woods surrounding our cottage are private property but there are a number of trails in the area. Many local state parks offer a great hiking experience, but watch out for the local wildlife!!
- Hunting. Speaking of local wildlife. Ask me for the links to lots of information and maps of public access hunting grounds. FYI, the cottage is in Wyoming County.
- Skydiving. Yup that's right. There is a group that is based out of the local small airport (Skyhaven) that does sky-diving every weekend the weather allows. I can see them floating through the sky almost anytime I hit the grocery store on Saturday mornings. Website can be provided upon request.
- Food & Beverage. There are many great local restaurants, wineries and breweries in the area. Some of these restaurants are truly spectacular, if "cooking in" isn't your thing.
This cottage has been in our family for over 35 years. It is our home away from home, we love being there. Unfortunately careers, lack of time and life in general prevent us from getting there as often as we would like. The next best thing would be sharing our little bit of paradise with others.

**Please note, due to lethal food allergies of my 9 year old autistic child, we request that no peanuts or tree nuts are brought into the house. If your pet enjoys peanut butter for a treat or medications, please keep it in your vehicle and feed it to them outside or let them enjoy it in the yard. The allergy is so severe even residue on the carpet could cause a reaction. Thank you in advance.
This cottage was perfect for a quiet weekend getaway. The cottage had everything we needed and was very clean. We would love to come back again!
We had a cottage on Lake Carey that we had to sell in 2017 and so we booked this rental for the nostalgia and wow was it just what we needed! Laura is an incredibly thoughtful and responsive host. The smaller lakeside was so peaceful. We enjoyed kayaking and a campfire and reading on the porch. Will stay again!
Cozy
Cozy cabin to stay at with friends. Quiet relaxing. Loved being on the lake
Its a small cottage, but enough room for a family. It has a fire ring and a lake. The owner ensures everything is good. The kitchen is well stocked. I recommend for families
Property was clean and well-kept. Kitchen was stocked with all necessary cooking utensils. Beds were comfortable. Instructions and house rules were clear. Location was quiet and peaceful.
The small side of Lake Carey feels much more in touch with nature than the larger side can be with it mostly developed now. Across from the cottage on the other side of the lake will be a forest and a field deer often browse at dusk. There are two visible beaver dens in the area and some mornings we heard them slapping the water from the outside deck. There were multiple birds including paired eagles fishing, cranes, herons, ducks and egrets. We caught multiple species of fish, they are incredibly active here jumping during the day and very often at sunset. If you know what to use you could catch huge ones right off the dock. The lake is close enough you could eat breakfast at the screened in porch and visibly see the fish, frogs and other animals. It’s a lovely location I will visit again and the host was very fast and helpful when ever we had any issues or even questions about the food near by!
Very cute cabin, nice access to the lake for kayaking, fire pit was great. Smooth contactless check in and out. Well stocked with essentials
We enjoyed our stay, thank you for sharing your place. It was very clean and cozy. We loved the set-up of home, made it feel like home away from home for sure. It was nice having the games to entertain. Had everything that was needed. The only thing that I would suggest, make sure that the remotes work to TV's, we could not get the TVs to work, we think the batteries were dead and could not find any replacement batteries. Again, thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. The Miller's
Cute lake house that you wish your grandparents bought years ago so that you and your siblings could share and make nice memories with your kids. It has the basics and plenty of space, but seriously not fancy. Plastic drink and dinnerware, adequate cookware, no washer and dryer, but that's expected and the owner doesn't misrepresent it. It's very clean and comfy, big fridge, all appliances work, good shower and hot water. Heads up for city folks or those not from the mountains: It's super dark at night, so bring flashlights (I think there was one in the house.) and it can get very cold at night so close to the lake so bring a thick hoodie/sweatpants like it's late autumn even in the summer. The lake is beautiful and the neighbors are friendly. We had a great time!
My husband and I were married over the weekend and this spot was absolutely perfect for us. The lake view was stunning and we couldn’t have asked for a more homey, comfortable space to be in as newlyweds. ❤️
Very nice quiet relaxing location.
Great property, beautiful location and wonderful host.
Had a great time in this cozy cabin. We were able to enjoy the serenity of the lake. Laura was great. She was very responsive to our questions and needs.
This property is very clean. They have everything you need there. You only need your clothes and food. Everything is there for your use. I would highly recommend this rental for families. Pet friendly, and things to do outside of the cabin. We went miniature golfing which I thought was very inexpensive, we had ice cream and alot of restaurants not far away. The Ideal vacation.
It was a pleasure to come back this summer. It was perfect for my daughter, Golden Retriever and myself, while visiting friends who live year round on the Lake. Looking forward to another visit.
We loved this pretty cottage. It was quiet and peaceful. The lake is beautiful. I loved wildlife watching at sunset. The beavers and muskrat swimming, the mallards, mama.grebe and her ducklings, the cormorant, the king fisher, the.eagle and osprey! The shy doe and her fawn were out every night. The cottage was spotlessly clean with every amenity. I enjoyed working on the screen porch and the wifi supported my video conferences. Well equipped kitchen with many extras. Kayaking was so enjoyable, good sturdy kayaks! Laura was easy to reach and very accommodating. She answered all my questions. I found many nice hikes along the Susquehanna and in the Endless Mountains. I am coming back!
