Welcome to “Cozy Cabin, your private cottage in the woods of Madeline Island in Sunset Bay of Lake Superior. Here you can check in, unplug, and go with the flow. Retreat with a book – or write one. Wander the island in search of myriad wildlife, or simply yourself.

***Please see important information at the end of this description before you book.***

A mile from La Pointe means shops, restaurants, and nightcaps are within walking distance. Bring a kayak to paddle thegitchi-gami waters at your own speed. The screened porch provides its own cozy getaway, and the shared dock offers a fabulous view of Bayfield and Basswood Island. If you're lucky enough to be here in the summer, you'll have the best shoreline seats to watch the spectacular sailboat races. When the sun sets, you can look forward to a night on the town, or the best night's sleep of your life – it's your choice. ***Please note: dock is shared with guests at the main cabin and it is not private to Cozy Cabin guests. The dock is accessed by walking past the main cabin and down to the water. When guests overlap on the dock (which honestly isn't often), we have found friends and memories are made or we make ourselves scarce!***

Cozy Cabin welcomes you with sunshine, a fully stocked kitchen, a wood-burning stove, a pullout sofa for additional guests, and more!

A note from Emma (your host): we would love to have you as our guests at Cozy Cabin. We take SO MUCH pride in being great hosts (seriously- look at our reviews) and we truly want you to love your vacation with us. Please do not hesitate to ask for something specific that will make your trip to Madeline Island special. You can text/call/email me anytime and I will always be available to answer any questions and help with any needs along the way. We want to make this a 5 star experience and will do anything we can to make that happen.

We have a few things we ask from our guests. It has been our experience that this list is no big deal for most guests, but not all guests want this level of participation. If it doesn’t work for you- we may not be the greatest fit for your vacation and that is okay! Please do not book with us if you have any issues with the following...

A Cozy Cabin Guest will be a-okay with:
*Slow WiFi: this probably isn’t your place if you rely on a strong connection to work or stream. After all, it’s an island and internet is on “island time”. Cozy Cabin is truly a place to unplug. With that said, we do have WiFi and sometimes it works great. We just can’t promise it always does.
*WE DO NOT PROVIDE ANY DECORATIVE PILLOWS, LINENS, BLANKETS, PILLOWS, ETC. Many of our wonderful guests bring their furry friends and we love that! We do not, however, love what's left on the linens and it is very difficult to keep things clean (to our standards and yours) when we are running this operation from the Twin Cities. Therefore, you will be bringing your own sheets (queen for both beds), pillows, blankets, bath towels, beach towels, hand towels, shampoo, soap, pantry items (spices, sugar for coffee, etc…), ziplocs, & napkins. We do not have laundry in Cozy Cabin. Sincerely- if you are not okay with this, we 100% understand and we just ask that you don't book with us.
*We are on a septic holding tank, so we ask that you use your best judgment to conserve water for toilets, showers, dishes, etc…
*We do not have someone collect garbage until the end of your stay and we have found that many guests want to be able to remove garbage and recycling as you go. Because there are little bear creatures on the island, it’s not an option to leave anything outside of Cozy Cabin. We suggest removing your garbage and recycling by bringing it to the “Recycling Center”, located between Cozy Cabin and the town of La Pointe. You will see hours posted outside of the center and the very nice men who run it are happy to help direct you once you’re there. Also, kids love it!
*We run this from the Twin Cities and you are our eyes and ears for anything that needs attention. We strive to make things perfect for you, but we also ask that you are flexible guests who can let us know when something needs attention and we will occasionally ask for your participation in remedying things. For example, the cabin is built on a slab and will “sweat” when weather is hot and humid. Therefore, we ask you to keep the dehumidifier running and keep windows open and fans running when it’s super hot and humid. If you have any issues with this, we may not be for you.
*While there is property access to the lake, there is no view of the lake from the cabin. The Cozy Cabin is nestled in the woods.
* We love our furry friends and understand how special it can be to vacation with them. We just ask to approve the pets in advance, but we do not require an extra deposit.
*Our L-shaped dock is no longer L-shaped as seen in the photos. Along with the majority of dock owners on the island, half of our dock was destroyed in the fall of 2017. We have been advised not to rebuild it until we can figure out what the mighty Lake Superior is doing over the next few years. You will still be able to experience amazing sunsets and beach fun!

***Please make note of the ferry schedule- it is limited this year and there is no other way over. Pay close attention to the date range, color coding, and to Island or to Bayfield. It is very easy to miss the last ferry if you are not paying close attention to the schedule for your visit.***

We want to make sure your stay is excellent and we are open to any and all feedback & requests. We would love to have you as our guests at Cozy Cabin!

The Cozy Cabin was just that! Bright, clean, and so incredibly quiet, it is clear to see how well cared for this property truly is! Emma, our host, was super helpful and friendly and very timely with responses to reach outs. The cabin is nestled in a lovely wooded area, the screen porch was a total bonus, and the views of remote nature are hard to beat! We were looking for a quiet space to unplug, recharge, relax, and reconnect - and we certainly found it! With the woodburning stove, no doubt we were all tucked in and cozy! We brought our bikes and spent nearly the entire day on Saturday riding and exploring. The State park should be on everyone's itinerary when visiting - breath taking views, areas to rest, eat, and play. Of course Tom's burned down bar was fun to pop into to grab a beer after our ride. THANK YOU to Emma for the graciousness - we will most certainly be back!

The Cozy Cabin was as advertised and great space for 2 adults. Interior was welcoming with great amenities. Quiet and off the main road. Close to town yet away from it all.

We slept in the car yhe first night and booked other accomodations for the remainder of our stay. We arrived at the cabin after the ferry closed for the night. Upon walking in, the cabin stunk like a old, wet basement. I have a mold allergy and I started having issues breathing. I took pictures of visable mold in the bathroom in the cabin and messaged the host asking for a refund. She refused and basically told me that they're not responsible for individual health sensitivities and to turn the fans on.

The cabin & property were very clean! My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay! The only downside was the weather broke for the worse while we were there.. so we didn’t get to enjoy ourselves fully…But obviously, that’s a chance you take when booking a place to stay way in advance, when the season/weather could be all over the place..But overall, a great, fun experience!!

We enjoyed our stay so very much! The bed was very comfortable! The place was very clean. The kitchen had what we needed. It was perfect for the two of us and only a mile from the ferry. We encountered a few things that were beyond the host families control and they made it right for us! We couldn’t have asked for more! If you’re looking for a quiet and peaceful cabin, this is for you.

Down a wooded lane nestled among the trees with an unassuming exterior is this adorable little cabin. It is so cute but not at all too small. Has everything you need. The kitchen had all the basic pots and pans, cast iron skillet, even a milk frother. The screened area in back is just lovely. We actually enjoyed having to bring our own linens. Just rolled everything up from our bed at home, put in a laundry bag and unrolled it straight onto the bed in the cabin. We loved visiting the dock and riding our bicycles down the lane and into town. Such a wonderful place to unplug and rest. We had our grandson with us for his 13th bday and when we called home to say hi he happily volunteered to his parents he hadn't even looked at a screen the entire trip! Emma is an absolute delight and such a good communicator. Everything was completely clear and understandable from the get-go. We'd definitely stay again and highly recommend Cozy Cabin! :) The only negative and reason I didn't feel we should list it confidently 5 stars is due to the floor sweating during a rainy period. Our socks actually got a little wet walking around and some dirty clothes which had been left on the floor were pretty damp after a day and night of rain. Thankfully there's a strong dehumidifier running all the time but we wanted the windows open at night to get some cool air so it wasn't very useful during those hours. Didn't smell mold and I'm sensitive so hope it was a rare occurrence. Stay here for sure.

We had a great time staying at Cozy Cabin. We walked into town each day, got coffee, and hiked on a local trail. The Superior shore access is delightful. We sat on the small beach and enjoyed the warm evenings. Madeline Island is easy to bike around with respectful cars, and the state park is gorgeous.

What an awesome place! We enjoyed our stay immensely. The property is just wonderful, and the host was excellent! We saw so many birds and so much wildlife and so many stars... It is very quiet and peaceful, and we loved watching the beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the dock. It was the highlight of the summer for us.

Charming little cottage in the woods. Short walk to the dock and north shore sunsets. Oh so quiet and lots of wildlife. We loved the firewood for the fire pit and the screened in porch. Only downside was having to bring linens but they were very clear about that. We will be back.

Just about everything went great during our July, 2024 stay at Cozy Cabin on Madeline Island. Easy check-in/out, and everything was as Emma explained in the description. Wi-fi was pretty lousy, as she said it sometimes is; we found it best just to turn the wi-fi off on our phones, and let the cellular service (which was fine) do the work. We did have a brush with a small bear on our 3rd day there. It never came really close to us or the cabin, but it did stroll by and seemed to spend a lot of time at the other cabin on the property. We had been planning on grilling some steaks for dinner that night, but decided against it, and ate in town. Be warned that, even in July, the town pretty much rolls up by 6 or 7pm. Luckily there was one restaurant still open until 9 for us (The Pub). The one hot spot open later is the infamous Tom's Burned Down Cafe (for drinks, not food). Some people hate it, but we went with the flow and loved it. All in all, a nice trip. Thanks to Cozy Cabin owner Emma!
