Pickerel, Wisconsin
Please read full description as it should answer most of your questions. Calendars are automatically updated so should reflect current availability at any time (unless of course two reservations happens to come at once).
Part of an old resort, this property has some of the best swimming frontage on the lake. This 1300 acre recreational lake is great for boating, skiing, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. Private pier, paddle boat, 2 kayaks and 2 stand up paddle boards are available for use; adult flotation devices and a couple junior/child vests are available. Both a gas and charcoal grill are available for use.
The bedroom has a queen size bed with window seat for storage during your stay. Living area has a queen size fold out couch. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you should need during your stay, including a coffee maker, electric griddle, toaster, hand mixer and toaster oven and a few basic spices.
We love just hanging out with friends and family on the large 14 x 16 ft deck which includes a wrought iron table and chairs, a glider and extra lawn chairs - ample seating for viewing all lake activities including both sunrises and sunsets. Sit back and listen to the loons and watch the eagles soar overhead. A large fire pit for roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories sits a couple steps from the cottage.
Don't feel like cooking Take a short walk down the road to the Final Lap where you can get a cold drink, great pizza, chicken wings, burgers, etc. They also offer movie rentals and a place to play a couple games of pool or darts or participate in karaoke every other Saturday evening.
A window air conditioner will be installed in the kitchen for those exceptionally hot and humid days. A window fan in the bedroom to pull in cool night air combined with the ceiling leaves the room cool enough for sleeping under sheets and a light blanket or quilt most nights.
For those rainy days, we have some board games to pass the time and books to read while sitting on the deck just relaxing. See what else you can find on the Community Porch.
Guests will need to bring their own bed sheets, bath and kitchen towels (or we can include them for a small fee). Blankets and pillows are available. A pack-and-play is available upon request. Guests will want to bring groceries with them as the closest full size grocery store is a 30 minute drive. A well stocked convenience store for last minute items is 5 miles away.
We want every guest to arrive to a clean and welcoming cottage. Guests are asked to clean and put away all dishes and take leftovers home. The owners don't live on site so guests are asked to take their trash to the local recycling center on the way out of town.
Guests with pets should consider the following house rules: 1) pets are not allowed on any furniture; 2) pets should not be left unattended in the cottage to reduce risk of damage; and 3) pet waste should be cleaned up and disposed of promptly. We have a large enough yard for dogs to play in. PLEASE be a good neighbor and ensure pets stay in our yard and off of the neighboring properties.
The cottage is cleaned with antibacterial/disinfectant cleaners between guests. Blankets are switched out between guests and all bed pillows are refreshed with clean pillow liners.
Would love to spend some fall time in this place someday…very peaceful. Loons on the lake calling daily and eagles and Great Blue Herons..,lovely road walks in the northwoods right from the cabin.
Loved the proximity to the lake and size of the cottage, with all of the kitchen and other amenities we needed. Wish there had been a better way to launch the kayaks to prevent hubby's fall into the lake. (that's right, we're not very coordinated). But we're thinking we may try constructing and bringing some sort of pad from which we can get in/out of the kayaks next time. We do hope to return next year!
My wife died a few weeks ago and I just needed some solitude nd peace which was exactly what I had here.
Great place. Love to come back
Very peaceful. Enjoyed the restaurants with boat access. Fishing was good. Plenty of lake toys. Very friendly and kind owners.
Wanted some peace and quiet and that is what I got because I went in the off season otherwise there are many cabins right next to each other and during the summer season I can't imagine much peace. I did enjoy my stay for the most part but there are things I feel should be attended to and disclosed. The property isn't very dog friendly if your dog likes water. The access down to the dock/water is wrought Iron grates as steps which a dog cannot use without possibly getting legs caught and/or broke. Thankfully the lady in the cabin next store said I could use their access to the water because they were not going to be there for the rest of the week. Had I not been able to use it I probably would have left and just forfeited my money. I would probably not list this as a place to bring dogs. The gas grill appears to be out of propane. I turned the valve on and tried to light it but I didn't even smell gas so I am guessing it is out. The furniture is very old and not even close to comfortable. The couch is really worn and tattered. I sat in one of the chairs to put my shoes on and almost sunk to the floor. I really feel the furniture should be replaced because at some point after having a power packed fun day, you will retire to the cabin and want to relax but with the furniture you can't. On the upside, great lake with nice views. The wildlife is plentiful with Bald Eagles putting on a show the one day. That was amazing. Got some beautiful pictures. I can only imagine the beauty of the fall colors as they were just staring to turn.
Very clean and nicely decorated cottage. Had a great size porch also. Owner had a Welcome basket for us, and the cottage smelled fresh and clean. Had a great time.
My husband and I enjoyed our week at the cabin. We planned to do a lot of hiking and biking but ended up enjoying the cabin and lake so much that we relaxed there more than planned. We enjoyed the kayaks, stand up paddle boards, deck and fire pit. We were happy to see corn hole boards! The Wifi worked great but we intentionally unplugged from the world. We picked up a few dvds and books from Goodwill for cooler nights. The only things I wish I had packed were more board games. It was a soul refreshing week!
Had a great stay. Wonderful cabin and setting. Perfect getaway for 2. So peaceful and quiet. Caught lots of fish. Boat landing was very close by. Furniture could be updated and more comfortable but overall, we loved our week on Pickerel Lake. Hope to return soon!
Nice clean place - very friendly hosts - made sure we had everything we needed including a great outdoor fish cleaning station!
