Boyne City, Michigan
This home is on 130' of beach on Lake Charlevoix, just 4 miles from Boyne City. Lake Charlevoix finished 2nd in a nationwide contest in 2012 for 'prettiest lake in the USA'. The cabin has a 100' deck with spectacular lake views, and adjoins a 115+ acre park with hundreds more feet of sandy beach to comb. This retreat has been in the same family for over 4 decades, but has been updated to add all the creature comforts of a condominium without all the other hustle & bustle that large complexes entail. The interior is all wood and a dock comes along with the rental, with boat launches nearby if you choose to bring your own watercraft. Lake Charlevoix is the 3rd largest inland lake in Michigan, and provides great fishing and boating, with access to Lake Michigan. The Boyne area is a four season resort with not just summer beach activities, but fall hunting, winter skiing & snowmobiling, spring 'mushroomin' and a reputation as the golf mecca of the upper Midwest. Traverse City and a major airport is one hour south, with Mackinac Island or the 'U.P.' the same distance north.
Location: The Boyne City area is the primary vacation destination for the midwest. It is a four season locale with abundant lakes for summer breaks, fall colors and hunting in autumn, winter skiing/snowboarding and snowmobiling, and spring 'mushroom capitol of the world'. It is a 4 hour drive from Detroit and 6 hours from Chicago. Canada is just 2 hours away. If you enjoy the beauty of hills/trees/lakes and like to 'get away from it all', but don't have the time to reach remote areas, this is an ideal spot to visit. Traverse City is the closest 'metropolis' an hour away, but an hour the other direction puts you on Mackinac Island 'somewhere in time' where vehicles are not allowed. Lake Charlevoix is a deep water fishing and boating mecca that connects to Lake Michigan, and is the premier inland lake in Michigan. After one vacation you likely will look for a second or retirement home here. Charlevoix County has for its history the only 'kingdom' ever set up on US soil: on Beaver Island.
Amenities: This is a second generation family owned cottage that was completely renovated to add the creature comforts of a 'condo', but you can enjoy a place 'all to yourself' with this home. It is located on 130' of sandy beach with 100' deck to enjoy an unbelievable view of a large inland lake. A dock and shore station is included, and nearby boat launches allow you to bring your own watercraft if that is your choice. We adjoin a 115 acre park with camping and lots more beach for you to comb or trails to hike. The cottage sleeps 6/7, depending on how you fill one double bed. We have cable TV but doubt you'll have the time or inkling to watch, with the beauty of your surroundings, and the abundance of things to do & see. We are close to everything in the north, but far enough away to make this truly feel like a 'getaway' place.
The cottage was wonderful, perfect for our long weekend away!
It was a perfect vacation. Being right on the water but not too far from the city made it an awesome location. Can't wait until we get back next year!
The Shack exceeded our expectations! The location was perfect, the cabin was (very) clean and cozy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
We love staying at this property. This was our third visit and the location is wonderful. It is close to walking trails and a beautiful sandy beach. The water is stunning and very clean. We look forward to our next visit!
“The Shack” is a hidden gem on the lake. This updated cottage is so much more than advertised! Everything you could ever want in a house on the lake with a fully equipped kitchen, spacious living room, tons of windows to hear the waves crashing in at night & the loons in the morning. Memories were made with our family of four that will last a lifetime. Kevin undersells his 2nd generation home. He is attentive, responds quickly and was super easy to work with. We hope to be back soon!
Found property exactly as advertised. Really enjoyed our morning coffee watching the sunrise. Great 180-degree view of the lake from the large patio & deck. Adjacent to Whiting Park with long sandy dog beach. Our lab Sadie was in heaven swimming this stretch of shoreline . . . just steps from the back door. Getting her cleaned up and dried off on the deck afterward was very convenient. Highly recommend this pet-friendly property for disciplined dog owners only because of the close proximity to the road.
Lake charlevoix is beautiful and this spot puts you right on the water. An ideal location. Whiting park is right next door with a nice sandy beach for morning and evening strolls. We really enjoyed out stay!
Great location and super clean. The place is very small, but great for a couple. Young state park is directly across the lake, so you’re looking across the lake at lots of natural beauty instead of a bunch of houses. There is a boat launch at the marina only about 1/2 mile away—super convenient and quick in and out ($10 and worth every penny!) would highly recommend the restaurant at the marina also… Great food, and great views. It was the perfect place to be on the lake with our small boat, because it seem to stay calmer and less wavy than other parts of the lake. There is a small park and campground right next door and some boats hang out there during the day because it’s shallow. But it doesn’t get crowded or rowdy, and actually provides a little entertainment when you’re sitting outside, having a cocktail in the evening. Kevin was easy to work with, also. Will definitely stay here again.
Beautiful spot on the shore, rustic yet accessible and a great time! We'll be back! (and hopefully, our kitty, too!)
Great house right on lake.
We stayed here in January, and we were happy with everything. Great cottage, great area, great view. Easy check in/out, place was very clean, and the heater worked great (important for the middle of winter!) Thank you
My wife and I had a great time staying here for two nights. The cabin is cozy for a small group of people and the property is adjacent to a public shoreline/beach. We only wish we stayed longer!
Beautiful view but cottage itself is dire need of some TLC and furniture. Very outdated. No dressers in the bedrooms. Also, there is a serious spider and ant problem. A lot of spider webs. Owner misrepresented himself in regards to the boat hoist. Hoist shown in photos of dock indicated a large hoist with a canopy when in fact the hoist available for renters use was a small one meant for perhaps a 14 ft. fishing boat. I had arranged for a large open bow boat put was unable to use it due to its weight.
My husband and I love this property! The lake is beautiful. It is a perfect place to go and unwind. The cottage is clean and the host is great. Love this place!
We love staying at the shack. Perfect location right on the water. Great area!
We had a wonderful time! If you enjoy being on the shore 24-7 and looking out over the water from a comfortable, private well-maintained deck right outside the back door, this is the place for you. If you are looking to get disconnected from the world, this is the place for you. It is very convenient, sitting right off the main road around the lake, but when you are sitting at the water's edge you forget the road is there. Hiking, canoeing, golfing, cycling are all right there. You can shop or dine out in Charlevoix or Boyne City, or you can do what we did and cook your meals at the cabin in the well supplied kitchen. Small and simple cabin, with all the basics and no frills. We will be back.
