The Cottage at 76 Spanish Street is in the historic city center, Flagler College, Lightner Museum, Castillo San Marco and Great Restaurants are all within steps. You’ll love The Cottage because of the quaint historic setting, newly remodeled inside, nestled right in the center of town.

Total cost for your stay is found at View Detail in the Request to Book box where you chose your dates.

This cottage has two bedrooms, each with ensuite bathrooms, the second-floor bedroomis loft style accessed by a spiral staircase, its ensuite bath has a tub and shower. The kitchen is outfitted with a full-size range, full-size side by side refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher all faced in stainless-steel. Countertops are granite. The Cottage sleeps 4

The sitting area is furnished with a couch, two side chairs, and a coffee table. It's cozy and small and best enjoyed by two couples, or one couple who would like a little extra room. I'm grateful that guests say it looks like the photos.

There is a deck at the door with an outdoor bistro table and chairs to provide a wonderful place to read or enjoy your coffee. Oh yes, there is a wonderful coffee shop attached to the deck just steps away. Relampago Coffee Lab offers wonderful coffee choices as well as sandwiches, scones, cookies, and turnovers.

About the House' History
This home at 76 Spanish Street is known historically as the Sabate House. This one and a half story frame vernacular house, tucked in between two taller homes, was built by St Augustine city alderman Ramon Sabate in about 1840 and it sits back from the street. It is not the home’s original location, as it previously sat at the corner of Spanish and Treasury streets sometime before 1874. It once featured weatherboard slanted at forty-five degrees, rather than placed horizontally to be parallel to the roofline. This structure is one of three Territorial Florida Period buildings still standing in Saint Augustine!

Accessibility
The whole house is available to guests. There is a ramp from street level to the door. There is no ramp at the threshold of the entry door nor is the downstairs shower stall wheelchair accessible. But, the downstairs bath is a shower with a low ridge.

Parking in the historic city center is challenging. We have one space available for guest in the lot across the street.

Regarding the nightly rates: please do Your due diligence and check all available reservation vendors. Our rate is consistent across platforms. However, service fees and requirements vary among providers. May I gently ask that you make your choice within your budget. Requests for concession will be kindly refused.

Regarding Pets and Children

Dear Wonderful Guest

Thanks for your inquiry into The Cottage at 76 Spanish St.

I’m sorry but we have a spiral staircase that is too much of a hazard for small children. And I would hate if a little one hurt themselves. And it is too tempting to play on.

Also, the city of St Augustine sewer is old and cannot take makeup or baby wipes at all. These are very popular baby maintenance items that I have tried to keep out of the house and plumbing. I have made exceptions in the past but was disappointed by guests who ignored my request to keep baby wipes and makeup wipes out of the toilet.

The plumber cost $450 each time we have it snaked And even though I showed the wipes at the end of the snake, guests flatly denied using them. Despite the evidence to the contrary dripping right in front of them. It's not fun. It's not pleasant, it's not necessary.

I’m so sorry to say no to pet and kids. I wish I didn’t need to do so. I love pets and babies. But it’s the parents that worry me. It’s a shame really. I want to be able to host kids and pets but the costs have become prohibitive. We are a small operation and cannot afford to absorb the costs of thoughtlessness. Plus I want a positive experience for myself and my guests, I don’t want to be put in the position of having to point out their mistakes in judgment. Life needs to be pleasant and enjoyable. The vast majority of our guests are wonderful, fun, conscientious, and a joy. But the negative experiences have required us to tighten up a bit.

I’m sure you would be the exception to the rule. But we have made the decision to avoid the unpleasantness altogether.

I apologize for the disappointment.

The location was ideal. There was a coffee maker and filters, but no coffee. The main floor bed was horrendous. Very uncomfortable and the mattress was filthy. All of the bedding was either dirty or very old. Peeling paint in the main bath. And the rusty shelving unit in that bathroom was unusable without placing hand towels on the shelves. The shower was good. No place to sit and put your makeup on. A necessity if you need a magnifying mirror to accomplish that task! There is room in the kitchen for a small table with two chairs. Not sure why there isn’t one. Only one hairdryer to share between the two bathrooms. For a minimal investment these issues could be resolved. Definitely needs a woman’s touch. Yikes!

Location was great five out of five stars. But unfortunately seems they had a roof replacement scheduled during her stay and they started working on it at 8 AM in the morning so we didn’t really enjoy our morning times. not sure when they last mopped the floor as I was walking around barefoot at the first day and I had black feet so kind of disgusting and basically the cheapest toilet paper you can have in the world would’ve been nice to have some feminine touches, not sure when the last towels were washed last when you get them wet, they had a moldy smell house seem nice but again the issue with the roof and not having any notification prior to that they were gonna work on it while we were there is a little disappointing

Our stay at Cottage 76 was excellent. The space was perfect for 2 couples and the location is ideal. We were able to park in the provided parking spot and walk just about everywhere we wanted to go. It’s a quick drive to various locations like the beach, the amphitheater, the marina, etc. as well. Discussions with the home owner were easy & check in/out was smooth.

This was a perfect place for us! You can not beat the location. We walked everywhere and even though it's in the heart of the Historic District, it is super quiet at night. Absolutely reccomend.

The cottage is exactly as advertised and it is fantastic. The location is central to everything in the Historic District. Great restaurants, live music, attractions and shopping all just a few steps away. It made sightseeing a breeze for us. The parking spot is a huge bonus. We parked at check in and never had to move until check out. Our host Ray was on top of everything and we had a flawless arrival and exit and no issues at all on our stay. The cottage is super clean and outfitted with everything that we needed to prepare some meals and snacks. While it is a smaller property there was plenty of room for my wife and two young adult daughters to feel relaxed and comfortable. It also felt secure and I didn’t worry about them coming and going into the evening hours. We have booked a lot of units over the years but the charm and location of this one makes it a memorable one and I would not hesitate to stay there again.

If you are looking for a place to stay that is close to EVERYTHING that the historic district has to offer, look no further. This roomy cottage is within walking distance to all of the great St. Augustine restaurants, shops, landmarks and even the art district. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this quaint little home that has all the necessary amenities. Add to that the convenient parking across the street, great communication from ownership and a great coffee shop right next store. The only negative (which I would say applies to all of St. Augustine and is not specific to this location) is that this is not a quiet little town and at this location you are in the middle of it. Be prepared for some noisy, rowdy nights on the weekends. The weekdays seemed to be quieter and there does seem to be a certain time (11pm?) that bars and restaurants have to close, even on the weekends. Other than that, this spot is 5 stars all the way.

This place was as it was represented and the host was easy to contact. House is located within the perimeter of the historical district. Everything is within walking distance, it's one street over from Flagler College and one street over from St. George Street. Once we parked our car we never got in it until we left. We had a great time and WILL be back to stay at this location!!
