Autumn Rose is a grade 11 listed cottage built in 1802 and is approached via an original cobbled pathway. Many of the period features remain, including wooden beams, the flagstone floor and a large stone fireplace with a wood burner - perfect for cozying up in the wintertime with a good book from the great selection available.

To the front there is plenty of on street parking and to the rear a totally enclosed sunny courtyard garden, which is enhanced by an array of seasonal flowering plants, along with ample garden furniture. A barbeque is provided, ideal for a sunny evening and the catch of the day from the harbour fish market.

Autumn Rose is well equipped (the owner being a keen cook), and has a home away from home quality, traditionally furnished with relaxation at its heart. The newly refurbished period bathroom complete with a slipper bath is an irresistible invitation to wind down and take a long soak. (Bubbles provided). This makes this property ideal for couples, seeking a peaceful break, lovers of walking and hiking or families wishing to enjoy the beaches and local attractions. There is a great selection of toys, puzzles and games plus the quirky pirate themed Crows Nest loft room which is s always a big hit with children of all ages.
Beach towels, buckets and spades, fishing and crabbing lines and picnic basket and blanket are all available.

Pets deserve a holiday too, and the garden is perfectly suited, as are all the wonderful walks, so up to two well behaved dogs and owners are welcome, subject to additional fee.

Fast WiFi, suitable for WFH

The cottage is on the edge of Churston village and was built by Lord Churston for his tenants... spot which of the windows are false, and make sure not to use the front door. Allegedly the Lord didn't want his tenants racing onto the street to demand his attention when he passed in his carriage, so he built the (shared access) entrances at the rear of the cottages - but added a fake door for appearances sake.

Within walking distance is the The Railway Inn which serves excellent food plus a local farm shop with locally sourced supplies , cafe and play area, and a particularly good butchers. Agatha Christie's Greenway house is easily accessible via the steam railway, or for those that enjoy walking, there is the scenic route on foot. An easy ramble down quiet lanes and you will find the ancient woodland and an area of outstanding natural beauty . The main path through the woods pass through bluebell meadows, past old limestone kilns and lead to Churston Cove and the south west coast path which can be followed into the historic fishing port of Brixham with its vibrant mix of shops, cafes and restaurants. If you wish you can proceed on the coastal path taking you further afield to yet more stunning views and beaches.

There is a regular bus service to Brixham, Paignton and Torquay which is a five minute walk. Dartmouth can be reached by bus or steam train - services run from February half term to the end of December. Listen out for the train whistle which can often be heard from the cottage !

Christmas breaks are available with decorations and tree , from Dec 1st, light the fire and make the festive season a great time to getaway... local events take place from late November onwards, including the spectacular Christmas train of lights. (Highly acclaimed) Full matching dinner service with serving dishes and glasses provided to ensure your Christmas table is special.

Autumn Rose Cottage is suited to short breaks, summer holidays or longer stays all year round, and whatever the weather it's a wonderful place to be ..................

The area for my dog was safe and secure. Autumn Rose cottage is absolutely beautiful, if you need to relax you really couldn't ask for more. There is a vast amount of books to suit all tastes, and many games to suit younger children. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. The bathroom is stunning with a rolled top bath and rainfall shower, however, if you have hip or back problems the bath is extremely difficult to get in and out of due to its depth. Autumn Rose is clean and comfortable and warm as you are able to control the central heating with the thermostat. Wendy has put a lot of thought into making her guests feel welcome and comfortable. Thank you Autumn Rose for a lovely stay x

Really lovely place, well presented cottage with everything you need. Dog friendly!!! In a nice and quiet area, close to walks and a short drive to Brixham to enjoy the traditional British Harbour town. The only negative is the squeaky metal bed frame with the most minute movements... That kept disturbing the dogs, in turn waking us.

Lovely little character cottage with a pleasant courtyard. Beautiful bathroom. Beds for our adult children were a tad tight, but they coped. Fridge also a bit small to hold much food for 4 adults, but understand the limitations of the kitchen space.

Beautifully equipped cottage. Very nice quiet location in village. Checking in process good. Cosy and very clean. Nice courtyard with seating and planting.A couple of suggestions to consider - I was astonished to find no welcoming pack as there is a picture of a cream tea in the cottage on the website. Misleading !! What's more not a tea bag/coffee/milk in the place. I have never had this happen in over 30 years of self catering. And in this day and age a welcoming pack is expected and I've had some beauties! To arrive late afternoon on Sunday after a 3 hour drive gasping for a cuppa - to have to then go straight out and find somewhere to buy tea was really disappointing and annoying. I admit it put a dampner on the arrival. Also I would suggest lining the back bedroom curtains as they are thin and from 4am the li9ght comes through and it would be impossible to sleep. Especially if you don't want youngsters getting you up at the crack of dawn:)However, I certainly recommend this cottage and would stay again

Really cosy cottage, lovely decorations for Xmas, great woodburner for warmth. Amazing bath and shower room. Great dog walks from the back door to various coves and beaches. Just a shame the local inn is undergoing renovations as it looks great. We’ll just have to come back and try it when it’s open again!

A beautifully rustic cottage surrounded by countryside, but still only a stones throw from everything you might need and a 30 minute walk across the field to the beach. We down tooled and relaxed, enjoyed everything and wanted for nothing.

We loved our time at Autumn Rose. The cottage was a short walk away from Churston Cove and Fishcombe Cove, two lovely and secluded beaches, reached via a delightful woody path. Seals also made their hellos — a magical moment for the family. It was a perfect getaway for our little family—and for wonderful value. Will definitely consider staying again. Recommendation: if you do not have a car but need a taxi, book with Brixham Taxis and do so in advance. Bus system very straightforward and easily located, practically around the corner from the cottage.

A well-equipped, charming cottage in such a good location for visiting the many lovely places around this part of Devon. No wonder there are so many return bookings. It was our first holiday there and we will certainly book this cottage again.
