Crab Orchard, Nebraska
The Corn Crib cottage is located directly in front of a 34-acre private lake. It overlooks grapevines , the country landscape, and the lake. You also get to enjoy all of the vineyard estate grounds.
The Corn Crib is a unique guest cottage as it was a true original corn crib that was turned into a lovely guest cottage. Sitting on its balcony right over the water's edge whether it is having a morning coffee, or sipping wine watching the sunset, you will enjoy the relaxing time.
Guest access:
Guests are welcome to roam the vineyard estate. Hike the area, photograph the wildlife, or fish the lake. Relax and enjoy your time here.
Other things to note
PET POLICY - We are dog-friendly. Your dog is allowed to freely roam the property. However, when in any of the cottages, like at most hotels, the pets, dogs, or cats must be kenneled. Also, for when guests go on to the lake or travel to town for dinner, we do have a large outside dog confinement area that does have shade and water. Many of our guests put their dogs there rather than leave them kenneled in the cottages.
Great weekend at a great place
Had no access to the lake due to overgrown weeds. Fishing boat and canoe were unusable. Walking paths were nowhere to be found other than 3 paths that went about 100 yards and ended in the same place. Tiny AC in room couldn't keep the room under 90 degrees. Got stung multiple times in the boat shed. I would not stay there again or recommend it to anybody else. Extremely overpriced and misrepresented online.
Between the cuteness of the “corn crib;” the endless fields where we walked and walked; the turtles, ducks, geese and herons on the lake; the peacefulness of the silence - this place is truly magical. We cannot wait to go back…
We were very disappointed, we couldnt fish around the lake due to the overgrowth and no paths leading to the lake, would of loved to try the boat or canoe there was no easy way of getting it on the water with so much overgrowth even around the dock! The boathouse was unkept, fishing gear all over, the life jackets had either mouse or bird feces all over them. The window air conditioner in the corncrib did not keep up with heat and we even cleaned the plugged dirty filter and that did not help. You advertised hiking paths we did not find any hiking paths... we planned and paid for this resorvation a year in advance based on your advertisement. We ended up leaving early...
This place was perfect for what we needed!! Quiet, cozy place! I loved the fact there was no WiFi and limited cell service, we HAD to put our phones down and we had a great time! We will be back again!
We arrived late night on a Friday and left Saturday evening. Had bad weather on arrival night which cleared up by morning. So couldn’t get the full view of the scenery until we woke up. Pros: Cool midwest scenery out in the middle of nowhere. Cabin has a unique look to it. Everything you need is available and ready to be used. Owner was super attentive and assisted with a knob issue immediately when it happened. Lots of photo opportunities. Very closed in and quiet Cept the outside ambience. Had reception from both AT&T and Verizon cell phones out there. Cons: A few bugs were inside but not worrying nuance. Rails for stairs is a bit loose. Very hot once we arrived and took a couple hours before it got to a cooler temperature than it was outside. Bed wasn’t super comfortable. Kept dog away from lake to be safe.
The place is even more beautiful in person. The quiet - the wildlife - the unique space - the walking distance to the winery on Saturday. It was exactly what we needed!
The Corn Crib was charming and was the ideal quiet space to take a break from the bustle of life for a few days.
Charming space for two. Kitchen is minimal, but adequate. Water was very low on the lake due to the drought, so the shores were muddy, and not very fishable, but we used the canoe and boat with good success on bass fishing! We enjoyed the fire pit in the evenings and exploring some nearby small towns. Overall, it was a very relaxing getaway “off the grid.”
It was exactly what we wanted for a quick weekend getaway. Brad and his family were very pleasant to visit with. We enjoyed the weekend and looking forward to returning during better weather.
We wanted to get away for a quick weekend that was simply quiet, unique, romantic, and away from people in general. This place did not disappoint!! Brad had the place in great shape and communicated any/everything we would have needed and responded quickly to any questions upon getting to the area. We ventured to neighboring towns for a meal or 2 but pretty much stayed at the crib around a fire and enjoyed the geese/ducks and deer. This place is like stepping back into a simpler time.
Very enjoyable get away. The corn crib was very comfy and relaxing.
Had a long weekend trip with my best friend! The place was so relaxing. The views were spectacular! We spent hours canoeing the lake and it was so relaxing and peaceful! Will go back again!
Sweet spot for one or two folks. It's a nice open space with balcony overlooking lake. Small area for any type of food prep so keep that in mind. Truly a place for a lovely getaway from it all. Would return. I mean often do you get to stay in a converted corn crib?
Brad was very helpful in the process and the stay was perfect. I highly recommend
The corn crib cabin was very rustic, but clean. Really secluded area. Nice and peaceful. The only thing was, we did not get a complimentary bottle of their wine. They must have forgot to leave one.
Great property. Great manager.
We had such a relaxing time here! It was so peaceful and refreshing. We got out in the canoe several times and just enjoyed and appreciated God's creation!
