GOULDSBORO, Maine
“Come-Stay” at the Grey Gull . Relax in our charming serene cottage. Enjoy majestic views of the Maine water front on which sit not one, but two, cottages of similar construction and unique styles. The Grey Gull is a modified Cape located in Gouldsboro in the Acadia region. It offers seclusion, sweeping views, stunning sunrises and everything you need to enjoy your seaside vacation. When you turn into the gravel drive, the water greets you and is only 30 feet from the properties. Built in 1950, this cottage sleeps four comfortably. The Grey Gull is separated from the Blue Loon cottage by a fun scalloped fence.
The Gull’s simple furnishings give it a clean feel, top to bottom.
The kitchen is both fun and functional. There is a charming breakfast nook overlooking the water, a farmhouse sink and dishwasher. The living room looks out to sweeping long views of the water. The sofa is comfy in front of the gas stone hearth fireplace. A great spot to pick up the binoculars and do a little bird watching.
On ground level there is also a napping room with a day bed for a afternoon snooze. Upstairs are two loft bedrooms each with double beds . The screened front porch brings the ocean air in and is a beautiful spot to watch lobster boats check traps, wildlife and watch the sea weed boats go out to gather sea weed.
In an adjacent lot beside the Grey Gull is the Blue Loon. This charming cottage also sleeps four but is a bit more contemporary than the shabby-chic charm of the Grey Gull. Wicker furniture accents the living room, as does a gas wood stove. Pristine water views can be enjoyed from the comfy furnishings. In the kitchen, you will find a retro table and chairs, stainless steel sink and granite counter tops. There is a full-sized bedroom on the lower level. Upstairs there is a lovely little reading room and a separate bedroom with a double bed. The screened front porch offers grand views of the water and wildlife and a very nice spot to enjoy the peace and quiet of this beautiful spot!
Both cottages are private, but also close to sightseeing and located less than one mile from a county-maintained boat launch. An explorer can launch one of our kayaks or a canoe into water at the cottages or at the county maintained boat launch less than a mile from the cottages. The pink granite shoreline at low tide is a great way to check out the sea life just beneath the rocks and sea weed. Or, enjoy a stroll to the bait shack and relax with your book at the picnic table that is on the long wharf overlooking the water.
Take a leisurely walk down our road and enjoy the fragrance of spruce and cedar. Activities in the Schoodic Peninsula villages of Prospect Harbor, Corea and Winter Harbor are a mere 15 minutes away as is stunningly beautiful Schoodic Loop Drive Park. Bar Harbor is less than an hour’s drive, but nearby Ellsworth(about 22 miles) offers shopping in some big box stores. Don’t miss John Edwards Market on Main Street to find organic groceries and a great wine selection …Summer events take place at Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor. Grindstone Neck public golf course (also in Winter Harbor), pubs, dining and Bartlett Maine Estate Winery and Catherine Hill Winery are nearby.
The town of Milbridge is about 14 miles north on US 1. Milbridge has a grocery store , a pharmacy, banks, doctors, and a few nice restaurants…There is a Farmer’s Market on Saturday morning(in season) in the Camden National bank parking lot.

As soon as we walked into the Grey Gull it felt like home away from home. Pj and Jeff thought of everything and they are superb hosts. The view from the cottage will take your breath away. 50 feet from the water at high tide and the seaweed draped over the rugged rocks at low tide will be a highlight. The bait shack fixed up so cute and the dock attached is a perfect place for reading/yoga/meditation. Schoodic peninsula is one of the prettiest places on earth with no crowds. Very quiet and private. This is a place I hope to return to year after year.
We were greeted warmly by Pj upon arrival and given an overview of the property. Gorgeous, oceanfront location! Pj brought in a vase of freshly picked herbs from her garden, and had thoughtfully placed fresh flowers for our enjoyment. The cottage is adorable and comfortably furnished. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of dishes, pots & pans, seasonings etc. There were plenty of towels available and the washer/dryer in the attached garage was a bonus. The beds were comfortable and there was air conditioning upstairs for the warmest nights. There is often a cool breeze off the water and it is very special to be able to hear the waves as you go off to sleep. Our favorite spot was the screened porch where we watched lobsterman haul their traps, seals, seabirds dive for fish, etc. The refrigerator was not running as cold as it should, and Pj and Jeff were very responsive to resolve the issue. There was another refrigerator that we were able to use for a few days until a new one was able to be delivered. We took day trips to Stonington, Machias area, Schoodic Peninsula, and Mt Desert Island. Nearby we visited Petit Manaan and the Schoodic Peninsula. Highly recommend Lunch on the Wharf in Corea. Also, at the suggestion of Pj, we visited the Community Garden in Milbridge. Amazing!! And don't miss McLellan Park in Milbridge. The blueberries are just beginning to be harvested, and we bought a a supply to take home. There are several places in the area that sell them, frozen and fresh. We are looking forward to another stay at the Grey Gull. Thanks again, Jeff and Pj!
Our stay was wonderful. The cottage is so near the water and so quiet. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend a visit to Gouldsboro for everyone interested in a relaxing and beautiful vacation.
We had an absolutely amazing time! The Cottage was a wonderful place to unwind and spend quality family time. The boys (ages 10 and 8) loved exploring the bay on the rocks near the property. They found many treasures! My wife and I enjoyed coffee on the dock, looking up at the amazing stars each night, and all the hummingbirds that came to the feeder daily after our daytime hikes in Acadia National Park. The owners were helpful and communicated so well! We cannot wait to come back!
I started crying when we pulled up to the property for the first time. It was so much more than I had imagined. Extremely private and serene. Homey updated camp right on the water. Surprisingly updated.
My husband and I like to stay off the beaten path and this cottage was perfect. The hosts were warm and inviting. They thought of every detail. A very sweet bonus was having kayaks to use on the property as we did not have to travel 8 hours with ours.
We stayed a month and were thoroughly pleased with every aspect of the Gray Gull cottage. It was clean, comfortably cozy, & full of vintage-cabin charm. Close to Acadia trails and oodles of other trails all within 20-30 mins. We relaxed in front of the stone hearth fireplace each evening after hiking & exploring each day. The full size beds are very comfortable. Nice winery 10 mins away. The neighborhood is so peaceful & serene and the water view from the cottage is spectacular! We’re planning to return next year.
The cottage is a delightful retreat. Cozy with an informal ambience fitting in perfectly with the Maine coast vibe. It is exactly what our imagination sought. It is well supplied with daily necessities, clean and well laid out. Our hosts were capable, flexible and solicitous without being intrusive. We would definitely repeat our stay.
My wife and I spent our honeymoon here and we loved it! It's a perfect place to both relax and do nothing, and go on adventures in the surrounding area. We loved waking up and seeing the ocean right out the bedroom window and sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds and other wildlife. We regret not having time to take the kayaks out! It's clear that there is so much attention to detail put into everything about the cottage and your experience there. Thanks Jeff and PJ!
Right on the water, this place offers a ready-to-go firepit, a wildflower field, amazing bird watching, and really more cool things than will fit into this review. It's a super-cute vintage-y cabin with tons of space and a charming gas fireplace. Tons of room, would be fabulous with kids, but was also perfect for our couples getaway. It was private and very romantic. We'll be back.
