Well kept cottage. Beautiful views of the lake. The location is great for quick access to restaurants and state parks for hiking. We felt safe and our dogs were welcomed and comfortable. There was everything you could need for cooking. The only down side is the access from your car to the cottage. You just have to be prepared for the stairs down to, and up from, the lake. We had a great time.
Everything Keith described was to the tee. Loved the waterfront dock where we fished and used our own SUPs and OC1 watercraft although there are kayaks on the property. The upstairs room was spacious and the beds were clean and comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked. Water provided a plus. Washer/dryer was handy. There was a heat wave (90+ temp) so the AC came in handy. By the end of the week, temps dropped to 55 degrees at night so it was nice and cool and no AC needed. Watching the sun rise by the dock was so relaxing. Yes, there are 85 steps but a good workout up and down the stairs (we are 59-60 years old). The welcoming bottle of wine and homemade salsa was delicious. Close to town and loved the neighbors (disclosure - I am a Cornell Alumni.)
The Good: The owner is very easy to contact: answered phone and texted to make sure we got there ok. Also left a bottle of wine and salsa for us upon arrival. The location is really nice along the water in a quiet group of historic cottages with great sunrise views and dock with easy water access and fire pit. The house location is great in the finger lakes region with many things to do nearby and feels like a very safe area. The OK: The house itself is in desperate need of exterior cleaning and paint. The interior has some dated furniture on the first floor with kitchen/laudry/bath. The second floor has a queen bed with 2 additional bunk beds. Bed comfort level was just ok; sheets looked clean. The bad: Getting to and from the house is exhausting with or without any load to carry. It's located 80-90 steps down a path and steep stairs from where you park the car. It's shown in the pics so I was aware; just didn't realized how much I'd travel them during our stay since we like to get out a do things. The old cottage has a lot of character but is full of cracks/crevices between the wood siding that allow many assorted bugs & spiders to freely travel. During our 3-night stay I was awoken a few times to find them crawling on me. Finally, the water situation is a mess. There appears to be an issue with the water pump or supply even though we only completed 2 loads of laundry and showered only once each during our stay. You definitly can't do both at the same time. The water will run out multiple times during a laundry cycle and takes forever to run a single load. And during a very quick shower, the water will suddenly run out. You then have to wait for the pump to regenerate the supply multiple times while rushing to complete a shower. This was our first time to the finger lakes and for the price we paid, I expected a little more. The location is great (near town, and maybe that's what you are paying for) with a great view from the dock but next time I'd probably stay elsewhere. I'd say this cottage is better suited for people staying on the property during the day (not climbing the stairs) or if you had a boat.
We had a great stay here and loved being on the water. The cottage is as adorable in person as in the pictures! I knew being on the water spiders and insects would be part of the package, but if you have spider issues, you might want to rethink this property. I was unnerved by how many places throughout the cottage weren't sealed (you can see daylight in many places) and my first thought was to check right back out. Two things prevented me from doing that and one of those was having to carry everything right back up all those steps to the car, lol! The other thing that stopped me (and gave me courage) was how much the boys loved this place! It is right out of a storybook and so darn cute!
Great to be on the lake — wonderful sunrises, kayaking, swimming, listening to the waves as zzzzz. The inside is very comfortable and nicely decorated. Kitchen is well stocked with dishes, glasses, etc. Thank you to the owners for leaving homemade salsa and a bottle of local wine. My only comment would be the outside of this lovely historic house seems little neglected; sprucing up of gardens, bench, etc. Very cool location.
We had a wonderful time. Property was perfect. Location right on the lake is beautiful. We enjoyed wine touring and hiking. The hosts were very easy to work with. Everything was great.
Spectacular setting! True treat to be able to experience staying in such a historic lake cottage. This is the essence of VRBO Vs staying in a cookie cutter hotel. Thank you
This is a great house with beautiful views. The kitchen is well-equipped, beds comfortable, etc. If there's a downside, it's that the steps to get to the house (and back up!) are steep and there are a lot of them. Also, the bathroom is on the first floor and the beds are upstairs. Other than that, we loved it. The weather was a little cool when we were there, but we were still able to enjoy sitting on the porch, the kayak and the fire pit. The owner is easy to communicate with, and even leaves you a welcome jar of homemade (delicious) salsa and a bottle of wine! If steps aren't an issue for you, I highly recommend.
Keith was always available and everything went so smoothly, I wish the weekend would never end! Thank you so much for letting us borrow your perfect cottage for the weekend. We fell in love with Cayuga Lake and Ithaca.
Very cute lake cottage. We had a really relaxing and lovely stay. Beautiful location, views and the lake is wonderful for swimming and kayaking. Easy to get to/from center of Ithaca. Great resource material in the house to guide you to all the local beauty. Nice running/walking trail right across the street. The house is rustic and the neighbors are very close. Since it's just a summer house you can hear the neighbors very clearly...but you're paying for the waterfront beauty which is hard to beat! Kitchen has everything you need. Would reccommend for rustic, lake front get away!
