Central Kuirau Cottage with park views

The kitchen could do with some more bowls, and the oven could do with a good clean. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and the location was excellent.

Very well set up for everything

The location of this house was probably its best and worst feature. It sits across the street from a very lovely park that hosted a number of food vendors in its parking lot. That was interesting. But the park boasts the mud pools and geothermal pools that emit a strong smell of sulfur. That really affected my husband’s health with coughs and bloody noses. The park was very lovely and lush.The house was as described, creaky and had sloped floors. The kitchen was small with the bare necessities of dishes. There was no washing machine, so some of the clothes were washed in the sink and dried on a supplied rack behind the house. The bed was not comfortable for these old bones of mine and with no A/C it was also very warm to sleep. This place could work for some staying a couple of days at most, but we endured a week.

Location is great! Old house which has its charms about it. Beds were comfortable and clean. Bathroom was updated nicely. House was a little dirty (crumbs on kitchen floor, didn’t appear like the kitchen counter or table had been cleaned, stained furniture, etc).

Perfect location and clean beautiful house

Overall the stay was okay, we were expecting basic amenities as per the description, however, have the following feedback for ways our stay could have felt better:Cleanliness - Again, this was okay, but there were small details like hair in the bathroom sink drain and tomatoes seeds still on the chopping board that made the cleaning instructions seem a little excessive. It made us question what the alternative cleaning charge of 65 would have paid for if we had opted for that instead.Refurbishment - Although stated as basic, the towels and bedding seemed old and needed replacing. The house and beds particularly smelled musty to be honest, and regardless of how basic an accommodation is, this isn’t acceptable. This isn’t a hard thing to remedy when charging people to stay. What would have made this an entirely different experience would have been to walk into a space that smelled and looked fresh, clean and loved. The cottage itself absolutely has the potential to be what was described in the advert, but not quite there as it is!

The host was so welcoming and provided all the details and little extra things you sometimes forget. An old lil creaky place on a lean most definitely but had great character and would absolutely stay again

We loved this place, the creaky floor was part of the charm. It was very well stocked with all the essentials and the park across the road was amazing! We loved staying there.

It was okay, but my daughter had to sleep on the futon and if she shifted in the night it would tip and wake her up. She was miserable because she wasn't sleeping and so it affected all of us. The kids also complained of an automatic light outside their window that kept going off and waking them. Otherwise, our bed/room was great and the location was great.

There are restaurants and supermarkets close by in case you need to eat or do some shopping.

This is our second stay. Our favourite place to book. Cosy, neat and so close to everything. The host is always helpful and ensures there’s enough basics in the pantry to help with the initial arrival. We love it here and all our memories that get made here. See you next year!

Deborah was a great host and the house is in a great location - easy walk to CBD and the lake. The house was as described....but the bed in the second room was not just soft, but sagging in the middle, and we had to remove the topper and sleep on that in the lounge. We had 4 nights so by the 4th night it was quite uncomfortable. If the mattress was decent I would have rated it 5 star.

The location is great- walkable to eat street/downtown/shops in 15 mins and close to a park with thermal activity including a foot bath!Though a little outdated, the house had everything we needed and was very comfortable! The host was very communicative and kind and instructions were clear. Would recommend!

The bed was comfortable even though it was on a lean. Shower was nice, charging extra to put bedsheets on is not nice. The photo didn't show an accurate description of age or proximity to business in shared driveway.

House was perfect for a girls trip away. Close to town. Very compact house and heaters heat up very fast which was nice. No noise from the business behind. Listing is very accurate. Absolutely loved staying here and host was great to deal with. Would definitely recomend!

The place was really tidy. Loved the bedrooms and the nice upgraded bathroom. Easy to find - great location and excellent communication with the owner.It did get very cold but there was enough heaters and blankets (we brought our own though) to keep you toasty. The only big downside was the standalone stovetop & oven. It’s very old and honestly needs to be replaced entirely. Two elements are gone - you can’t read any of the writing on the dials to know the temperature and even when I was set to what looked like 1 (the lowest) it was between too hot and if you were not careful if could burn the food. It was not in the pictures so you couldn’t see it. We didn’t even want go attempt using the oven!We didn’t mind the creaking floorboards too much after we got used to it and we knew in advance. If you have no plan to cook this place is ideal! We loved it and would highly recommend despite that. It was really well priced as well and was happy to pay the cleaning fee. We loved how close this was to Kuirau Park and the thermal area, so easy to get around, and the house is cosy with a heater in every room! We decided to stay an extra night because we liked it so much and the host was really easy to communicate with and very quick to respond. We will be back!

We had a lovely stay in this cottage. It is homely and close to everything. Have stayed in this cottage a number of times and it's been an excellent base to explore from.

House is about to fall in a sinkhole , it’s leaning towards one end of the house, and the owner expects the guests to clean the place like if we were a cleaning crew . We just slept and showered , were afraid to use any appliances or anything and get charged for it . Spent many nights all over NZ , and nobody made us or charged us for cleaning and washing the linens like she did . No one has the kiwi tradition that she claims to have . Very happy when we left that place .

Loved the location, close to the Saturday markets and thermal attractions at the park. The cottage was just so lovely and homely. It reminded us of visiting old aunts and uncles at kids so we instantly felt at home walking in. The place feels like it's old school retro style home but modern updates too. It was warm, no drafts, a very comfy bed, a modern bathroom and fibre internet.

Loved Rotorua and location convenient to cbd and public foot baths

We were in town for a big trade show and needed a small house close to events centre and hospitality venues for a week. This was perfect. 2 bedrooms meant my colleagues were able to have their own space for sleeping. The shared areas were comfortable.This cottage is located directly opposite a lovely geothermal park and then down onto the lake foreshore, and only 15 mins walk to the main town. We stayed in Rotorua without a car and we had no issues getting around.A very lovely place to stay and recommended!

We had a lovely stay in our place. It was very easy to get around town centre of Rotorua and it was close to all the activities we have booked.

This property did not meet the standards we have come to expect from Vrbo. The host is very honest about the condition of the home so no surprises there but it is in need of a deep cleaning, particularly the kitchen. The stove is from another era and needs to be replaced. Barring that it ( and the fridge) need a deep cleaning and the cupboards need to be relined. The dishware could all be replaced with a 50 trip to The Warehouse Store. It would not take a lot of effort or money to make it acceptable.

Great location. Surprisingly quiet, given the busy road. Creaky floor took some time getting used to.

Nice, quiet location. Included helpful things like a hair dryer, clothes iron and shampoo/conditioner. Was a bit warm inside during the day but cooled down during the night. Noticed there were quite a few cob webs and dusty areas that could use a clean and the inside of the fridge hadn’t been cleaned.

We attended a whanau event. Cottage is centrally located. Was clean and tidy, all instructions were spot on. Everything we needed for a two night stay was supplied. Will definitely book again in future.

Compared to similar properties stayed in it had not been updated. Chairs in kitchen were upended on the table. Lounge lacked comfort. Bathroom fittings flimsy and floorboards in hall way disturbed others in the night. Beds clean and comfortable.

Excellent location across from a geothermal park where we barbecued a great meal. Short walk from restaurant row with lots of choices. Quiet but very simple. No coffee maker and lots of condiments in the fridge. Lots of towels!

We stayed one night (family of five), host made a one night booking available during high season. Accommodation was very clean and well decorated, full functioning kitchen, clean linen, and directly across the street from the Rotorua Saturday Farmer’s market. Parking on site and internet available, superb!

We stayed 2 nights in this lovely little house next to an amazing park. Our daughter loved the playgrounds and the public thermal bath. We will come back.

This gorgeous little cottage had everything we needed. It was clean and comfortable, also very well located for everything we wanted to do. We would happily stay again.

Accomodation meets all your basic needs so long as you are aware this is an older house with plenty of quirks. Everything you need is there for a short stay. Handy location to get in to the centre.We opted to supply our own linen and to clean the property upon leaving - a nice option to save on cost. Would happily stay again if we head this direction.

The property was as described.

We loved this little house. It has been tastefully renovated without losing its character. Everything was spotlessly clean and the beds were really comfortable. I was a bit worried that the road in front would be noisy but it got very quiet at night. The house is literally across the road from the park which has some thermal pools and a thermal foot bath We have stayed in lots of places during our tour of the North Island and this has been our favourite so far.

The location meant that everything was in walking distance and if you are there on a Thursday night the night market was great fun.

Be aware that the kitchen is really small and the floorboards creak. Nice shower with good water pressure, and nice linen was provided. Will book again.

Location was excellent with close proximity to central Rotorua, and beautiful park. Bathroom was good, but standard of kitchen, crockery and cutlery was poor. Towels did need replacing. Some upgrading of the cottage and property is necessary.

The accomodation was clean and handy to everything close by. The beds were comfortable and the place had adequate heating. I wished there were laundry facilities included as I'd have liked to do a load of washing. The place was adequate for two couples and a child.

Can’t recommend this place highly enough

I've stayed here a few time now and can't complain about anything. A nice cozy older house with a few squeaks. Beds are comfortable, kitchen's good and has most things, and is located close to CBD. All in all, a good value stay.

We had a very comfortable stay, the beds are comfortable, Kitchens has adequate facilities, Decent size lounge & bathroom. There is even a heater in every room, so very cozy. This house is old but has loads character. Yes the floors are uneven & creak a bit, but the beds are comfortable, heaters are provided in most rooms, the kitchen has everything you need & it's situated in a central location. The owner gave easy to follow instructions to check in & was very accommodating. I enjoyed my stay at this property. Glen
