Bijou 17th Century Cottage

A lovely property which served perfect for what we needed! A central location in the Lakes and was not far from anywhere. Brilliant

It wasn’t what I was expecting.Rather disappointed.Outdated inside and the outside needs tidying up, didn’t give a good first impression of the cottage.

Beautiful place to stay ,ideal location

This is a very characterful cottage - the main living area is nicely furnished, and it has a good bathroom upstairs. The kitchen is tiny, which I was expecting. But the equipment in the kitchen is also very 'tired'. The oven is so old that the markings have worn off the knobs so it required complete guesswork to judge temperature, or the mode of the oven. I used it once and burnt what I was cooking. The interior of the oven is dirty and the door seal falling off. The switch on the kettle is also broken and fell off on my first night. The microwave oven is old, so more guesswork to judge the power settings. The kitchen as a whole wasn't that clean; I had to wash a few things when I arrived, including the cutlery tray in the drawer, which was grubby.

Charming location that allowed exploring the lake district without a car. Frequent buses at the stop nearby. Loved the old stone walls with the slate floors. We have an old house with narrow stairs, so they felt like home. (Hang onto the railing). We arrived in a downpour, and had some trouble locating #14 (overgrown). Thank goodness for SPAR at the gas station for hot coffee and food basics. Go hiking out the back, up the field, around the sheep for some incredible views

Not so much bijou as tiny. The stairs kept us 76 year olds fit! Had everything we needed.Recommend the pub at the end of the street

The property is undoubtedly small. It was very clean and comfortable - a perfect base for exploring this wonderful area. Plenty of grocery stores and pubs/restaurants in surrounding area. A very steep narrow staircase leading to the second level of the property. I note this has been mentioned in other reviews too. Overall, my wife and I were very satisfied with the property.

Everything was lovely but isolated. Fortunately the bus service was wonderful. Be warned, there are steep narrow stairs to access the bedroom.

Lovely cottage full of character Some tlc required: oven graphics worn away; bedside table loose from the wall; kitchen tap wobbly! Otherwise, great!

We loved our stay in this cottage. The owners have put such thought into the items and I loved the textiles and pictures. It was super comfy and a real treat to stay at the cottage. Although easy access via a main road and spar garage for goodies, the cottage itself is in a private road and set back. We were able to walk from the cottage to the most glorious walks. A great treat.

We love the Lake District but we were very disappointed and dismayed at the level of cleanliness and state of the property. Yes it’s very old and there is no doubt it has charm and history, but it wasn’t clean and it isn’t looked after. It was very cold downstairs, even with the heating on, and damp with wet patches on the floor. It definitely wasn’t worth the money.

Three stunning days in and around Windermere, lots of exploring and walking. Picture perfect. Cottage is delightful for a couple, beautifully maintained and equipped.

We had a lovely stay in this cottage for our Lake District holiday this year. The cottage is sweet and well equipped, and is a great base for exploring the area. It was lovely to return to the peaceful cottage after our wedding day on the Wednesday! Thank you.

We really enjoyed our short stay here. The cottage was full of character but cleverly modernised with a well- equipped kitchen squeezed in at the foot of the stairs. The bathroom had a great shower. The cottage is in a great location with walks from the door but just near the town.

Gorgeous little cottage. Well positioned with good walks and places to eat. Lots to do in the area. Safe allocated parking and good bus service.

Nice little cottage on a busy bus route, wasn’t very welcoming on first impressions, con webs throughout the accommodation and smelt foisy, the mirror in the sitting room and bedroom looked like they had been cleaned with a floor cloth, the kitchen window was so dirty it was difficult to see down the drive. Spent about £35 on kindling & logs trying to warm the place up, booked for a week which was far too long, 2-3 nights would have been enough. Came home a day early, wouldn’t recommend it to family or friends…

A good spot to explore the Lakes District. Quiet area.

Lovely stay very cosy

Well-located charming cottage. Pub/restaurant and convenience store steps away. Windermere center is about a 30 minute walk. Several nice hikes up to Troutbeck right outside the door.
