Apsley, Ontario
Named HEMLOCK POINT due to the property shape and treed property, this "cottage chic", open concept cottage faces North-West for stunning panoramic sunset views, 6 Decks +2 large Docks and a recently-added screened-in gazebo to protect you from the bugs! It comfortably sleeps 6 (max) in 3 bedrooms, 2 Double beds, 1-set of bunk beds(2). (sorry, no camping/tenting permitted)
Large patio doors open to the lake-front deck which is great for BBQing, entertaining and gently sloping elevated views to the dock and lake. The new french door side entrance opens directly onto the Gazebo deck where you can comfortably lounge in the outdoor living room on the couch and chairs!
The cottage is positioned off to the side of a well-treed, private and secluded lot which has over 400' waterfront with its own private point. Multiple decks at various levels show off all possible views of the property along with a campfire pit overlooking the lake. At night, the paths are softly lit with lights to guide you from the cottage to the dock, for star gazing and perfect views of the Big Dipper!
The clear waterfront is great for swimming and the walk-out shore is ready for those who don't want to jump off the dock! The 4 red adirondack chairs and umbrella, are the perfect place to relax on the large dock to enjoy the best 180 degree views of West Bay, watch kids swim, for water sports, and suntanning. Fishing is excellent right off the dock! Minnows seem to be the bait of choice on the lake but the rock bass especially like rubber worms :)
The sides and back of the property are well treed providing privacy from the road and adjacent neighbours, which emphasize the front lake views for watching boaters, jumping fish, osprey and eagles flying around and loon families teaching their babies how to fish.
The back deck has a built-in bench and seating which is perfect for morning coffee. Baby moose and deer families are commonly seen on early mornings. Most recently wild turkeys have wandered through...
The Kitchen becomes part of the open-concept living and dining room with stools at the breakfast bar. Full size stainless steel appliances: fridge, microwave and stove/oven make the all-white cottage kitchen clean and efficient. Instant hot water and UV filtered cold water, was recently added.
The living room has a wood-burning fireplace perfect for those cool spring and fall evenings, and the bookcase stores all the cards and board games you'll need! The cottage is lit by a custom driftwood chandelier overhanging the entire space and casting incredible shadows throughout.
The newly renovated 3-piece bathroom with full glass shower, is tucked away off the side of the kitchen. A new septic tank has recently been installed as well.
There is also a WATERFALL at the back of the property which is a MUST to check out! This is where Little Chandos Lake trickles into Chandos Lake through the forest and rocky path. Minks, Weasels and Beavers have all been seen with their babies in this area.
There is 1 canoe, 2 kayaks + a small fishing boat (no motor) included in the rental. Local Marina's rent motorized boats (note this in your inquiry if interested) Badminton/Volleyball net, Bocciball, and other land sporting equipment available on site.
We’ve FINALLY got wifi!! After 2 long years on a wait list we are pleased to offer STARLINK wifi for our guests. A recently added SMART TV will tide you over on those rainy days!
Chandos Lake is north east of Peterborough, between Lakefield and Bancroft approximately 2:30hr North-East of Toronto, just a 5 minute drive outside of Apsley. The lake is clear, sandy, and land-locked. Apsley has all the basics you would need for a cottage getaway with an Independent grocer (recently burned down so do your food shopping prior to arrival), Guardian pharmacy, Shell gas station, convenience store, library, Hardware store, RBC bank and LCBO. Oh, and an amazing ice cream counter :) serving Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream!

Our recent visit to the cottage at Lake Chandos was a rejuvenating experience we won't soon forget. The cottage itself seamlessly blends modern convenience with country side charm, offering a comfortable and homely retreat. Just a stone's throw from the lake, we were treated to awe-inspiring views right at our doorstep, which served as a beautiful canvas for both sunrise and sunset. This trip was a wonderful blend of relaxation and adventure, making it the perfect choice for anyone seeking a brief escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
This property has a beautiful outdoor area with multiple patios and a dock that gets the sun all day.
We loved our time at Christine’s place. The indoors was cozy with everything we needed and the outdoors - the real star! - was beautifully landscaped with amazing swimming. Will be returning!
Annual friends cottage trip and this year, we found ourselves in Apsley. Place was totally perfect for 2 adults and 2 teens. Outdoor spaces were perfect, cottage rooms were super comfy. Lake and area are stunning. Great support from hosts!
Great spot to be! Amazing waterfront, great fire area and very comfortable beds! Christine was quick to reply for any questions or concerns and we had a lovely stay!
It was the perfect setting for a surprise engagement! Everything was as described. It’s an amazing place to spend a fall weekend. The wood stove kept the cottage comfortable when the temperature dropped. Lots of toys for our golden retriever to keep himself preoccupied as well!
Christine’s cottage was amazing! We enjoyed our stay very much and the cottage had everything and more. We visited in the early Fall (late September) when the leaves were just starting to change colours. The lake and it’s views were beautiful. Our dogs loved swimming daily and whether you were outside or inside it was a comfy and cozy home away from home ~ lakeside. We are already talking about returning and booking annually. Just a stunning and convenient stay for families and fur fellas. My elderly parents joined us too and one has mobility issues. The cottage and it’s many platform views provided perfect options for sitting and enjoying. I could go on and on but you won’t be disappointed that’s for sure!
Cottage is high up on a lovely treed point. The docks are extensive and allow you to be in deep water for swimming. There are stairs down to the water which may not be suitable for people with mobility issues but they are well lit and sturdy. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen and comfy beds. We enjoyed our stay!
The outdoor space is incredible with numerous areas for relaxing, sunning, reading, congregating, etc.
Great property and amazing views, felt like a very nice getaway from the bustle of city life. It was a very enjoyable stay and we felt very welcome and relaxed.
This property is possible the nicest I have ever stayed on in cottage country - the lake was perfect for swimming and kayaking, the cottage cozy, enough supplies in the kitchen to make some beautiful meals. But the standout is the property itself - the views of the lake are incredible, we saw some unbelievable sunsets, lots of spots to spread out to outside. Would absolutely come back.
Hemock Point is a beautiful property with gorgeous views of the lake and sunsets. Early morning sightings of blue heron on loons close to the dock. Great swimming, kayaking amd canoeing. Cottage is quaint and cozy. Kitchen has all the gadgets for those who like to cook. Screened in porch is wonderful in the evening for watching sun go down without being pestered by mosquitoes. Lots of outdoor lounge spaces. We loved sitting by the firepit overlooking the lake and enjoying the surrounding trees lit up with spotlights. Enjoyed visits to Shantilly’s Place for ice cream.
We had such a wonderful stay at the cozy Chandos property. Thank you to Christine for her amazing hosting and welcoming home. We had a chance to see so many fish, a beaver and lots of chipmunk visitors.
Our experience was amazing. We had a great and relaxing time staying in this beautiful property. The cottage is located on a private and elevated prime spot, on Chandos lake and gives you panoramic view of the lake. That’s all we needed! Checkin/checkout was a breeze. Christine was amazing, always available if there was any issue. We will definitely going back!
A lovely cottage with wonderful outdoor features and a terrific view of the lake. My friends and i had a great time even when the weather was unfriendly. Check in and out and communications with Christine were simple and quick. Thanks for the great time!
It was rustic and authentic!!! Exactly what we needed. The deck was beautiful, and we got a fair bit of fishing in (bass catches mostly and ALMOST a pike!). There were a lot of mosquitoes but that’s to be expected during the time of year we went. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to get away from the city ❤️
Just bliss. Amazing scenery. Loved every moment.
