Lovely well-appointed cottage provided a sweet spot of serenity and possibilities. Furnishings are lovely and comfortable for those lazy afternoons or settling in after a day of outdoor adventure. There is a wide variety of activities on site: bicycling about the neighborhood, swimming, kayaking, fishing and crabbing, as well as reclining, napping, and nature- and boat-watching. The cottage is close to historical and/or nautical sights and activities, and the (free!) ferry to get there if needed - google maps includes it in the route. The artists at the Village Gallery due east in Oriental are varied, talented, and prolific. There is much to see (and touch!) there with artists in-house, conveniently next to a coffee shop. My favorite things: rain on the metal roof, sunrises and sunsets out on the dock with fish jumping, cool breezes, and a welcoming 'home' to return to when we sought out adventures to the beach or sea-facing communities nearby. The favorite things of the teenagers with me: hammock, proximity to shenanigans and escapades, and flawless Wi-Fi (of course). I cannot say enough about the host and the neighbors if there are questions about anything: there is so much love and knowledge about the area. The provided Alexa was no match for that - it was only good for weather and random noises. We can't wait to plan our next getaway!
Everything that is needed for a relaxing vacation on the water front.
Beautiful property! An older home, but beautifully maintained and restored. Everything you need is there. My girls loved the outdoor shower and thought showering au naturel was fantastic! The views from the porch are amazing. Open the windows and let the river in!!!! Come and stay. Sit back and relax. Let the river speak to you!
Nicely appointed, clean cottage overlooking the Neuse River in a quiet neighborhood. The owner provided bikes and kayaks which we enjoyed during our stay. The location is perfect for day trips to beaches, quaint friendly small coastal towns, and Croatan National Forest. The cottage’s back porch provides an excellent view of the river where you can spot many different bird species, as well as porpoises, and otters. The back porch is also a great place to sit and enjoy your morning coffee or have a nice afternoon nap. The owner of the cottage is very accommodating, check-in and parking easy. We felt revitalized after our stay and appreciate all the things the owner has done to make this charming cottage so inviting and relaxing. A+++
The property provides access to the Neuse River from the backyard with a dock to kayak and fish. More upfront details should be provided related to one bathroom in the house and a shower outside in the yard before booking. The listing stated two bathrooms. Also, the house's bathroom has to be accessed by either walking through the connected bedroom or going through the enclosed front porch. The enclosed front porch is not heated and has windows facing the street. My family member who slept in another room was not comfortable utilizing the front porch at night or early in the morning to use the house bathroom. I would not have booked this location if I had known the details of the house bathroom.
fun, and lots of sleeping spaces, wonderful water view
Property was exactly as described, we had a lovely time.
It was a pleasant vacation
This is our third stay at Terry’s beautiful cottage. This comfortable, clean, well-equipped house on the river has been a perfect spot for our family (and friends who rented Terry’s cottage next door) to relax, unwind and refresh. Great seafood market in Oriental and the ferry for Beaufort is nearby. We walked down the street to the country club and purchased day passes to the pool one afternoon and that was fun. Kayays and bikes are also provided. Nothing but kudos for Terry’s cottage!
Great family getaway we stayed 6 days the fishing and crabbing was wonderful. We got to meet our host such a sweet lady and so accomadaing. We would love to come back again.
We enjoyed our stay at Journey's End. No issues and it was clean. We had everything we needed. Our host Terry was very nice and easy to communicate with. Looking forward to staying again in the future.
I cannot say enough about this wonderful property. It was like stepping back in time to a simplicity we can rarely find in our world. A true gem of a spot so thoughtfully decorated and supplied for anything and everything!
Old fashioned river side house with pier and so many little extras everywhere that you feeled cared for like a luxury hotel. Owner so accommodating that I felt free to ask about an unexpected need and she came through beyond my expectations!! Can't recommend enough.
Our arrival to the cabin was so easy even if it was dark and unfamiliar. As we approached the door we were greeted by the most aromatic flowers lining the entrance. Once inside, it was delightful! A real cabin feel. We enjoyed the back porch after in packing. It’s so quiet…we could hear the waves hitting the dock and we watched the fire flies dance on the plants along the property’s edge as a hill with stairs leads to the dock. We met the friendly neighbors on the street in the morning all eager to share information about their neighborhood. It rained the next evening. The raindrops played wonderful music on the metal roof. After a busy day and rides on the ferry it was a perfect end to our day. The ferry is literally just down the street. So easy access to other spots along the ocean is very acccessible. The places on the other side were nice but, no comparison to the quaint little cabin and neighborhood in Minnesott Beach. A pure delight! If you are reading this I urge you to stay at Journeys End it’s adorable and peaceful the perfect getaway!
A beautiful cottage on the water. Brought back memories from childhood.. The place and the host were fantastic.
It was exactly as you see n the pics! Decorated beautifully and very well equipped. It was built in 1909. We loved the quaintness of house and yard. It literally sits right on the water what a view, especially at sunset!. The other houses around are lacking the character of this place...they need to take lessons. The owner was wonderful to communicate with, very accommodating. I look forward to coming back!
My week’s stay was all I anticipated. Great views of ever-changing river, sunsets, sailboats, and families of squirrels in yard. Enjoyed the quiet area, friendliness of small towns nearby, and the ferry rides to busier towns for day trips.
