Our property is perfect for enjoying the activities and views that come with this waterfront location. Enjoy a day out kayaking and canoeing, relax on the large deck, barbecue with al fresco dining in the gazebo, which features a mammoth stone fireplace, enjoy the large game room, explore the many scenic hiking trails and beaches in the area, visit Antigonish, which is only a 10-minute drive away, and more. The peace, beauty, and activities available here provide an idyllic spot for your getaway.

The space:
This cottage has one full bathroom but also features a second outdoor shower, which is an excellent way to rinse off after a refreshing ocean swim. Guests will have access to our high-speed Fiber Optic internet and are welcome to use our private dock, as well as have two kayaks and a canoe at your disposal. Several other amenities are available on this property, including a large game room.

The game room is in the 2nd story of our barn. This game room features a surround sound system, large TV for movies, a pool table, ping pong, foosball, a bar, and an indoor mini ramp for skilled skateboarders. This is a great spot for kids of all ages! The barn/game room is also used by us, so it does qualify as a communal area, but if you'd like to use the game room without interruption, just let us know, and we're happy to accommodate.

This property is located on the active oyster farm property of Town Point Oysters. All stays include an oyster farm tour (weather and schedule permitting). If you’d like to schedule a farm tour during your stay, please let us know.

Guest access:
Our property is rural, surrounded by the ocean, woods, hiking trails, and nature. Antigonish is only a 10-minute drive away and features many excellent restaurants, local shopping, a golf course, StFX University, and more.

On our property, we have a very long and large driveway. The cottage also has its own parking area. There is plenty of parking space for everyone. Our residence is on the same property, further down the long driveway. However, it is more than 400ft away through the woods and not visible from the cottage.

Spaces shared with us: The driveway, dock, and barn/game room.

Cottage is on an Oyster Farm Property: Set on the grounds of our Town Point Oysters farm, the cottage offers a truly unique coastal experience. From the shoreline and deck, you can watch oyster farming unfold in real time; boats heading out, gear being tended, and the rhythm of working life on the harbour.

While you’ll have a front-row seat to authentic maritime life, the cottage itself remains a peaceful and private retreat. The farm activity is quiet and respectful, adding charm and character to your stay without disrupting the calm, restorative atmosphere of the property.

We used the cottage as a base for our trip to Cape Breton. We did day trips checking out the beauty of the local area!

We enjoyed our stay at Ernie and Jane’s cottage - especially the use of the games room! Nice and close to Antigonish to run errands while our kids got settled at STFX and picked up groceries for some home made meals (small but well equipped kitchen - no dishwasher). Beautiful view of the rocks across the bay !

Our hosts were super welcoming & friendly. We had a wonderful time hearing about the history and happenings in the area. Location was great for exploring Cape George or zooming into town for shopping and restaurants. The grill and outdoor fireplace were fun for a relaxing evening with family and friend by the fire. The kitchen is well equipped and stocked for all your needs. We roasted coffee beans out by the fire and perfected our pour-over coffee technique. Be sure to go to the farmer's market in Antigonish on Sat (https://www.antigonishfarmersmarket.ca/) to get local produce, eggs, meat and fish. Don't miss the short walk through Antigonish landing where you can find a massive bald eagle nest if you know where to look (inland toward the white house on the hill). There was plenty to do at the cottage. We were working remotely during the day (The wifi was excellent for 4 of us to be online at the same time ) and relaxed during the evenings. The cabin and barn was loaded with games & books. Kayaking & paddling in the evening when the water was as still as glass was absolutely beautiful. We saw a seal, deer, eagles, herons, hummingbirds and a black bear up the road. One heron in particular visited nearly every morning fishing off the boat dock. I would not mind waking to the view every day! The only real negative were mosquitos. They were relentless preventing us from doing more outdoor activities (we visited early Aug). Bring your bug spray.

Absolutely beautiful property and amazing hosts. Jane and Ernie are incredible people, and as much as it was a joy being at this remarkable place it was just magnified by the the wonderful hospitality and warmth that Jane and Ernie provided to our whole family. We will be back!

The old saw Location, location, location is only partially correct for this experience. A week with Jane, Ernie and son John is a learning experience and the beginning (we hope) of a long friendship. We now understand more about oysters, farming them, and shucking them than we could have possibly learned through Google, etc. The partially correct part is nothing short of fantastic in itself. Of course, no visit to this spot could be complete without a very short trip to Cribbins point to catch the Fisherman Crossing lobster boat as she arrives, and snagging a couple for supper, and if one loves chocolate, Peace by Chocolate is a prerequisite. Thank you, Porters!!

Beautiful beautiful location and scenery. TONS of fun things to do - spend time in the water on the variety of boating options thenhead to the barn of fun. Surround sound speakers, pool tavle5, video games, ping pong, skateramp, dartboard, board games! Excellent hosts, super responsive and friendly. Had everything we needed. Outdoor shower in the sunshine is dreamy. Bring water shoes for everyone and floaty things. Lots of oyster shells on the bottom so you want to get in and be up floating. Great water temp! Bring bug spray for the mosquitoes. So much to do and gorgeous!!

We've travelled a fair amount, but this year, thanks to covid-19, we had to stay closer to home. After staying at this property, I'm glad we did. We were made to feel welcome right from when we first arrived. The owner met us in person and gave us a tour of the property. After that, the fun got started. This is a great place for families. My kids are home from university, and we also brought along one of their friends. We tried our hand at kayaking and canoeing, walked the beach, waded out in the water and saw lots of wildlife, including deer, king fishers, eagles, gold finches, snowshoe hares and many more. The outdoor fireplace area was a great spot to sit, and we also had the use of a dock. The younger people in our group especially loved what we called the shed. The upper floor is outfitted with everything from an indoor swing and skateboard ramp to a pool table and dart board, and the views are wonderful. One of the pretties spots we found was the pathway through he balsam fir. It's all lined with fairy lights and is so pretty! Our host was always helpful, especially his son who helped my daughter retrieve her camera after it fell off the dock, lol. I would highly recommend this cottage to families, and it's close to St. FX for any parents visiting students at the uni. I could also see it being a lovely spot for a honeymoon or even a small wedding. At any rate, I can saw that we've stayed in VRBO's in many places, and this one is at the top of the list. I'd highly recomend it.
