Marquette, Michigan
THE COTTAGE SURROUNDINGS
Located on the shores of Lake Superior in the heart of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the Beachcomber's Cottage is nestled in a private woodsy setting. With the property extending undeveloped on both sides, the cottage is surrounded only by the whispering of tall stately pines. An ample parking area provides space to unload your kayak or canoe from your vehicle.
Just a short walk down a cobblestone path leads you to the expansive 450 feet of private sugar-sand beach with the fresh clear waters of Lake Superior stretching out before you.
With no nearby neighbors and no highway crossing to access the beach, it’s just the spot for your summer vacation – to lounge in your beach chair, take an invigorating swim, or stroll down the beach collecting rocks and driftwood. And it’s perfect for an autumn getaway, where the fall colors are vibrant and spectacular, the air crisp and clear.

HEALTH AND SAFETY:

The cottage also includes TWO DECKS:
• An attached deck with picnic table and chairs for outdoor dining and relaxing
• A second deck above the beach dune with views overlooking Lake Superior and the spectacular sunsets over Shot Point to the west. It’s just right for enjoying your morning cup of coffee or even watching the stars come out at night. And for really early risers, it’s a perfect spot to catch those sparkling sunrises over Laughing Fish Point to the east.
• Note: Recently lake levels have risen causing the shoreline to be unpredictable, creating dune erosion all along the lake shore and eliminating the previous gradual dune slope. As a result we built stairs with a railing down to the beach. Also, after losing the original dune deck to the lake, we've built a new more spacious deck back from the dune's edge.
THE LOCALE
Conveniently located between Marquette and Munising, the cottage is 15 miles east of Marquette on scenic Highway M-28, close to dining, shopping, and entertainment, as well as several golf courses and a casino.
And just 26 miles east of the cottage is the wild and beautiful Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, located at Munising, where you can hike above the cliffs, kayak along the shoreline, or relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery on the ever-popular Pictured Rocks Cruise.
You can use the cottage for a starting point to enjoy the many hiking and bicycle trails in the area, or head out on day trips to explore the Upper Peninsula. Wherever your adventures take you, the Beachcomber’s Cottage is your perfect “home base.”

Loved being on lake superior, sitting on deck and enjoying the view. Saw a double rainbow on lake.
The cottage looked exactly the same in-person as it did online! The beach was super close, the huge picture window in the table area was incredible; the gas fireplace was AWESOME on chilly days. It was a fantastic setting and ambience. I'm grateful someone mentioned bringing drinking water - that's definitely necessary. We brought gallon jugs with us and filled them up every/every-other day at the Marquette Co-Op grocery for only 50 cents each. Silly me, I didn't notice there was no washing machine! Totally my own fault, but I want to draw attention to that fact. We just did some laundry in the kitchen sink and let it hang to dry; no problem. Lake Superior water was crystal clear, and ranged from somewhat wavey to very calm. We enjoyed every part of it, no matter the weather. The cottage is a good 15 minutes away from most places; not walkable to anything really. This could be a bummer if you're used to walking into a town, or could be a relief because it's so quiet and remote and peaceful. Pick your adventure! Very happy with the stay.
Beachcomber's cottage worked perfectly for our family vacation. The cottage was well equipped, and the beach was amazing! Despite higher water levels, the beach was still wide and sandy and allowed for long walks in either direction. The sunset walks were the best. The beach is very private, we only saw one neighbor our whole week. The location is great as well! We made trips to Munising to hike and do all the Pictured Rocks things and to rent an ATV. We also made several trips to Marquette for shopping, meals and sites. Very private location, yet convenient to a lot of the attractions.
We had such a great time at beachcombers cottage! It was myself, my husband and two kids (15+8). The cottage was just the right size for the four of us. It was clean and comfortable! We loved that it was on the water where we could easily bring our paddle boards down. The cottage had almost everything we needed!
We had a great time in a beautiful setting. The beach is very nice. Marquette has some great restaurants.
You can't get a better location. The beach was awesome. The cottage was very clean but, a bit rustic for me. Bring drinking water with you. I always have a air mattress with me wherever I go so, I can't tell you how the beds were. Overall, we had a great experience.
We lucked out and had perfect weather our entire week! This is our third visit over the last 5 years- Lake Superior was like glass and perfect for Kayaking, swimming and walks on the amazing stretch of beach. This is one of our favorite locations to vacation near Marquette- Lots of activities of hiking, Grand Marais visit and more. Cottage is always comfortable, clean and has everything we need, bonus is that it's close to Marquette.
This was our third family trip to the area and our first stay at Beachcomber's. We were delighted by the location and the ease of accessing this gorgeous beach. The house was just right for our family of 4. The beds were comfortable and the house was well appointed. Our communication with the manager and the owner was quick and professional. Minor concerns were addressed immediately. Our only small gripe was the extremely slow tap in the kitchen sink, which made dishwashing a bit of an adventure. We ended up carrying pots of hot water from the bathroom and pouring them into the kitchen sink. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the lake and hope to return to Beachcomber's next summer.
My friends and I enjoyed kayaking, waterfalls, and several local restaurants while in Michigan. The Beachcomber's Cottage was nestled just a few cobblestones away from the lake where we were sure to catch almost every sunset each evening, they are breathtaking. The only hiccup we had was on the second day we lost water pressure in the kitchen.
Hope to return
