The castle cottages, newly refurbished, are on a heritage site, flanking a superb 1500s castle (Tower House). Butlerstown has been in the ownership of the same family for many generations, and it has been the wish of the current owners for many years that its beauty and tranquility should be made more available to the public. Set in 100 acre farm and woodland, in the sunniest corner of Ireland, we are just 10 mins drive from the closest good beach. The castle cottages have their own private Herb Garden and Lavender Haggard, and there is a small soccer pitch for children to play on. Good local restaurants, pubs (such as the Lobster Pot pub/restaurant), riding stables, golf courses, museums and bird heritage sites (such as the Saltee Islands, North Slob and Tacumshin Lake) are all within easy striking distance. Donkeys and other pet animals, and a traditionally run vegetable garden, ancient well and other special features all help to make Butlerstown a unique place.

A Magical Stay in a Piece of History We absolutely loved our time at Bagenal Harvey Cottage. The restoration work is stunning—every stone and timber feels steeped in history, yet the space is warm, comfortable, and thoughtfully modernized. The kitchen was well-equipped, perfect for cozy meals after exploring the countryside. The location is very peaceful and atmospheric, with the castle’s presence adding a sense of timelessness to the whole experience. It was ideal for our family—safe, spacious, and full of character. Our host was gracious and responsive, offering helpful tips and making us feel genuinely welcome. We especially appreciated the attention to detail throughout the cottage—from the linens to everything was curated with care.Jim took us on an amazing tour of the Norman tower, and of the beautiful gardens. Both my daughters, absolutely loved being able to feed the donkeys and sheep. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a unique and memorable Irish getaway. The only sad part about this trip was not being able to stay there longer. We’ll be dreaming of this place for years to come.

Owners Anna and Jim were gracious hosts and made sure our stay was great. Jim gave us a tour of inside Anna’s family castle and he went above and beyond with his tour. We could have listened to him all day. He took us up onto the roof and lookout corner which was an awesome experience. Later he took us into his personal garden area so we could get some nice views of the castle and in that garden area were many 160 year old peach trees that were intertwined and created this beautiful tunnel. The bedrooms were nice and beds comfy. The living room was nice to sit in at night. My favorite part was feeding their two donkeys Pippa and Ollie plus their herd of sheep and little lambs. Their caretaker’s cat was super friendly and she followed us practically everywhere when outside. We’d stay there again if given the chance!

Our group of 5 had a great stay at the cottage. The cottage itself is large and comfortable. We all thought the beds were the most comfortable of any vacation rental we've stayed at. The kitchen was well appointed and we cooked each day. The grounds are gorgeous. The kids loved feeding apples to the donkeys and the whole group loved Jim's castle tour. The cottage is only a few minutes drive to shops, 15 minutes to Kilmore Quay harbor, and 20 minutes into Wexford town. A cozy few days with family and an overall wonderful time.

What a wonderful experience! Anna was such a kind and thoughtful host, and graciously spent time with us touring her property and teaching us all about her ancestral home. Exploring the 15th century castle was a once in a lifetime experience. The accommodations were cozy, comfortable and had all we needed. I would highly recommend a stay at Bagenal Harvey cottage. Memories to last a lifetime!
