This property on gorgeous Hinckley Lake was the historic Kuyrahoora Rod & Gun Club. Though this cottage is not directly on the water, it has private access to the Estate's 1500 feet of private lake frontage and beach. The Cottage has: 2 bedrooms, one with Queen bed, the other with two twin beds; there is a 24 x 18 log-beamed living/dining space with split stone fireplace, fitted with gas stove; a small but functional fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and microwave; and a single bath with tub/shower.
Our stay allowed us to remain in the north country for an extra month before heading back to Fl. We got visit our family and friends, fish and swim in the lake, walk our dog in the woods and travel around the beautiful Adirondacks. Our only disappointment was a lack of cleanliness. Cupboards needed to be cleaned, cookware was dirty with baked on food and grime.
If you are looking for a quiet, secluded camp type locations, this is it. If you are looking for a cottage experience, this is not it. Very rustic trip down memory lane to the summer camp era. Unfortunately the beds and furniture are also very rustic, so be aware if you have back issues. The owners are fantastic people, very eager to please and ensure everything they can do is done for you. We won't be back, however we believe younger people with family would most likely love this place with lots of exploring to do, access to the lake, and a very secure, private atmosphere.
Greatly appreciated the stay
Greatly appreciated the stay, and all that was provided to us
I stayed two weeks in the cabin and was very comfortable and happy there. I spent most of my time working (the internet was plenty fast for full work days including video calls without latency issues). It was quite rainy while I was there so I spent most of my free time reading and listening to music in the cabin which is my happy place anyways. It was sheer luck that I had a few vinyl albums with me and they have a stereo with a turntable on top of it - what a surprise and treat that was. I listened to Adrienne Lenker's most recent album songs at least once a day. Perfect cabin in the woods music. The lake was lovely and I took a dip most days and did get out for a canoe once at sunset. I ran most days and just ended up running along the CR highway because the shoulder is large and I like to run around 10km which makes zig zagging small neighbourhood roads really hard for me. I wish there had been a trail system closer to the house that I could use for runs. I did go our for one amazing bike ride on the weekend around the reservoir and ended up on beautifully paved country roads with no traffic on the other size of the reservoir from the property, there were some gravel roads and even some ATV / MTB trails that I found. it was a fantastic 3 hour loop ride. Cophelia and Richard are lovely hosts and are just a short walk from the cabin on the property in their own house. They were extremely kind and helpful throughout the stay. This property is on my shortlist of options for another trip in the future. Thank you!
