Stunningly situated with views over the Shropshire plain and the Welsh hills, these holiday cottages (refs 30846 and 30847) have been converted from fine original stone outbuildings, which benefit from a high position giving glorious views over the surrounding countryside. They are situated close to the market town of Oswestry, and make an ideal base for walkers, artists, birdwatchers, golfers, gardeners and for all family or shared-interest groups. The accommodation has been sympathetically restored retaining original oak beams and stone features. Both places are easily accessible by road or by train, the local station of Gobowen is 3 miles away. Offa’s Dyke, the famous Welsh border path that runs for over 180 miles from the North Wales coast to Chepstow in South Wales, is nearby. There is spectacular walking in the Berwyn hills, around Lake Vernwy and the Clun Valley in south Shropshire. Powys Castle, Chirk Castle and Erddig House are National Trust properties and can be reached within 30 minutes. Ironbridge Gorge, a deep gorge formed by the River Severn, is approximately 1½ hours away. Park Hall Farm museum, Llangollen Steam Railway and Museum and the Shropshire Union Canal are all within 30 minutes drive. Excellent trout fishing is available nearby (by arrangement). There are many golf courses within a 20-minute drive. The area is also a birdwatchers paradise, woodpeckers, red kites, nuthatches, buzzards, little grebes and many more can be seen in the area.
