Located just metres from the beautiful Camel Trail, this former threshing barn, now converted to stylish holiday accommodation, provides the ideal base to relax and enjoy the county of Cornwall. It lies in a rural setting with the Camel River running past the barn, and has use of private riverside area, with an enclosed garden, at your discretion. This stretch of the river is a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest’ and therefore is mostly left as natural as possible to promote and encourage wildlife. If you are lucky, you may see otters, deer, stoats, bats, salmon, sea trout and a variety of birds including rarer kingfishers, nuthatch, owls and buzzards.

Travelling west from the barn will first bring you to Wadebridge, a delightful market town with all you need, including bike hire, a cinema, supermarkets and many local craft and gift shops. While on route to Wadebridge, the Camel Trail passes the Camel Valley Vineyard, a family run business that produces award winning wines. Continuing along the trail from Wadebridge, the views open up across the amazing Camel Estuary until you reach the coastal town of Padstow with its working harbour, narrow streets and Rick Stein’s seafood restaurant.

The ancient town of Bodmin has many attractions including the Bodmin and Welford Steam Railway, which leaves the old town station and chugs down the valley to the mainline branch, what a way to tour the county. The ancient Bodmin Jail is also well worth visiting for a little bit of ghoulish history. The surrounding Bodmin Moor offers a great escape from the norm where you can find Jamaica Inn, immortalised in Daphne Du Maurier’s book of the same name. The stunning National Trust property of Lanhydrock House is close by and has many activities throughout the year. You may wish to explore coastal Cornwall, and Chapel Barn is equidistant from both the dramatic north coast and the sub tropical south coast, both with very different scenery. The beaches of the north and the villages of Port Isaac, home to the TV series ’Doc Martin’, and Polzeath have many attractions including many world class golf courses, great local pubs and celebrity chefs including Nathan Outlaw and Rick Stein. The surfing town of Newquay, Watergate Bay and the sea faring and literary town of Fowey, all offer superb and different days while enjoying your stay in Chapel Barn. The popular Eden Project lies just 10 miles away. Beach 10 miles. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 300 yards.

Such a cute barn! Really comfortable, very clean and so well equipped. Lovely little touches - as you will see in the photos. Quaint and quirky, but modern in functionality. Shower pressure is excellent! Everything you could want. We would happily move in here permanently. The little courtyard downstairs is great for safely storing bikes and lovely for breakfast alfresco. The garden area and direct river access is very pretty and set up brilliantly for a BBQ - which we never got around to as the local pubs, restaurants and take-aways were all too tempting. The location is excellent as it’s just off the main road so we could easily and quickly get to all the places we wanted to visit by car. The road can get busy, but that’s to be expected and Chapel barn is set a fair way back off the road, so it isn’t an issue. We must have been to every dog-friendly beach in North Cornwall. Rock beach is busy but beautiful. Worth staying late at Rock as it’s a fab swim when it is quieter. And if you can manage a 30-minute walk loaded with kids beach stuff, visit Polridmouth beach. It’s a magical quiet cove with a shipwreck (of Daphne du Maurier fame). Park at the farm for 50p or go the other side to the National Trust car park and walk down through the trees. We came to Chapel barn for the Camel trail and it’s perfect for that. Our 7- and 9-year-old girls loved the freedom of cycling from the barn - safely and on flat easy tracks. We regularly cycled the few miles to Wadebridge just for an ice cream. Recommend the Camel Trail tea garden for a crab sandwich on the way home too!The owners of Chapel barn are absolutely delightful. Hospitality pros! Laura and Dave let us get on with it but were at the end of a message if we needed anything. Really lovely people and a lovely barn. Absolutely recommend! We will be back for sure.

This is a beautifully presenter barn in a lovely area which is perfect for walking. The short walk away from the road to the local pub was an added bonus. Our hosts were welcoming and readily available should we have needed help. The bird feeder situated right outside the kitchen window provided great entertainment when doing the dishes. We would certainly consider visiting again.

The cottage provides an excellent base to explore much that Cornwall has to offer. Having the Camel Trail literally on your doorstep was also wonderful. You feel as though you’re in the heart of the countryside without having to compromise on the availability of good local shops and a great local pub. The cottage is scrupulously clean with an upside down layout that really plays to its strengths. The rooms, whilst modest in size also provide everything you need for your holiday break. A shelf in the smaller en-suite shower would had been a useful addition however. The owners (Dave and Laura) are very friendly and are readily available should the need arise.

Enjoyed our stay and hope to come again. It's a good place to venture to many of the places in Cornwall that are well worth visiting.
