Welcome to your home away from home, Hale Ke Kai, “where the land and sea meet.” You will come to find out why so many local residents and visitors call it one of the best units at Colony I. We feel honored to have the opportunity to show you the reasons so many have fallen in love with the islands. Those reasons are here to be found in abundance.
The Big Island is our home and we go to great lengths to help you feel at home too. This spacious and beautifully furnished onebedroom condo is single level with absolutely no steps. Although it is considered a condo, there are no upstairs or downstairs neighbors, only the back wall of the closet is shared. Hale KeKai is unit #23 at the Sea Mountain Resort. The lanai (patio) is very private. Speaking of the lanai, “Wow!” is the usual response. Sweeping unobstructed ocean views that blend gently without interruption into an incredible mountain view. This is Hawaii, your Hawaii.
A high quality king size bed in the master bedroom will combine with the soft breezes and gentle lull of the waves to bring calm wondrous dreams of the beauty of the real Hawaii. The living and dining areas also have sweeping ocean views and are outfitted tastefully yet comfortably as this is as much our home as yours. The living area also boasts a fold out sofa bed that we have slept on ourselves and is very comfortable.
The kitchen with range, oven, microwave, full size fridge, coffee/espresso maker, dishwasher, and small appliances is well stocked with quality flat ware, a variety of teas, and condiments and spices to get you started on the meal of your choice.
The bathroom has a cavernous granite tiled shower that is an easy step inside. We love every corner of this place and believe you will too.
Enjoy some world famous Ka’u Coffee on the lanai or hang out at the pool or hot tub with new found friends, either way you will be glad to have found one of the world’s hidden gems. Punaluu Black Sand Beach, consistently voted one of the Top Ten Black Sand Beaches in the World, is only a few minutes’ walk away. Sunbathe beneath the palms, snorkel with turtles, or watch them haul up on the beach. For the more adventuresome, hike out either direction and re-discover Hawaiian historical sites (please show due respect to all archaeological sites and observe proper viewing distance and rules regarding all marine creatures).
Hale Ke Kai is perfect for any family or couple seeking the trip of a lifetime. A secluded, yet accessible wonder that will be remembered.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is only 30 minutes away, making Punaluu the closest ocean front lodging. Hike the volcano by day and relax in the hot tub under the stars by night. The pool and hot tub have wonderful ocean views and you can barbeque fresh island fish or local grass fed beef on one of the quality barbeques next to the pool.
Our special vision for Hale Ke Kai is for people who may be less able to travel to have the chance to visit one of the best kept secrets in the world…and be comfortable. Hale Ke Kai has no steps, no stairs, just a little bump at the front and sliding doors. This means couples where one partner is movement impaired or a family with aging parents can still share moments of beauty and peace. Our goal is for every family member, including children, to feel safe and at home. Should you or your loved one have special needs, please contact us, we will make every attempt to accommodate your needs.

The view of the Pacific Ocean and lush setting from the back window was thrilling. The condo is in the edge of a larger compound, but you had the feeling of being alone.Full kitchen and only a short drive from Black Sand Beach. A great place to stay and hope we can again soon.

The unit was exactly as presented, quiet and well equipped. The arrival instructions should be updated with a mile marker reference and description to turn in at Black Sand Beach. We arrived very close to dark and the entry was difficult to find. I know we are in a tropical climate but the tiny black ants are a nuisance that could use more attention. The equipment and condiments in the kitchen were great and very welcome. It might also be good to note for future guests that are no food stores nearby so they about come prepared. All in all a great stay.

Beautiful place to stay! This rental had the BEST views and we loved seeing the sunrise and sunset with the ocean. One thing I did not see before renting is that there is not any air conditioning. The owner has ceiling fans in the rooms and additional fans, plus almost every window opens to allow the ocean breeze to come in. We were never uncomfortable! It was super close to the black sand beach, and close enough to Volcanoes NP. We would love to stay here again!

This was the third leg of a two weeks stay, so our review is colored by our other two stays; after spending seven nights at a quiet ranch on the Kohala ridge and four nights off-grid south of Paoha, three nights at an older resort was... different. Please read our review understanding that; this place is perfect for some people, just not us. Wonderful and friendly employees, but the stay did not fully match the description. For example, the shower and bathroom sinks were recently replaced, but the rest of the unit is older, just like the property. Everything was clean and there were a lot of supplies in the kitchen, but it seems like the owners must not have looked in the cupboards in a while; for example, the one skillet was so scratched that the anti-stick was gone down to the metal. The view of the lanai is wonderful but with little privacy; other people frequently stood twenty feet from our chairs. smoking away on the lawn (and then throwing their cigarette butts over the fence, in the dried grass. A bit unsettling for a forty year firefighting veteran.) The pool and hot tub area was impeccable, but I could not tell you how the water was in the tub: it was usually busy or completely full, especially in the evening when a group of younger folks (who seem to live in some units) occupied it while loudly pontificating about how mean the locals have been to them over the last year.We rented STVRs around the globe during more than two decades, so we have fact-based opinions.

A few minutes from the turtles at Punalu’u Black Sand Beach and an easy drive to Punalu’u Bake Shop and South Point. The pool area is beautiful and a great alternative if swimming at the beach is too rough and rocky.

The ocean view from the condo was beautiful. We enjoyed the condos tropical decor, comfort, & cleanliness. A local bakery serves fabulous malasadas for breakfast. Punalu‘u black sand beach is minutes away where we had the gift of seeing a sea turtle rest in the moonlight.

Great location between Hilo, Volcano National Park and Kona. We were lucky enough to witness the 29th episode of the volcano erupting. Volcano national park was about 25 minutes away. We spent 1/2 a day in Hilo, 3 days at Volcano National Park (waiting for volcano to become active) and a day in Kona. Great place to get to see all of these with moderate driving to each one.

Wonderful, relaxing property off the beaten path. The condo is exactly as described. Very comfortable with everything we needed. As others have mentioned, it is not a quick trip to a grocery store or restaurants, so come prepared. Internet access was good and consistent, which made our working holiday possible. Our host, Jeff, was quick with responses to questions and a gracious host. Everything went very smoothly. Highly recommend.

Beautiful condo in a great private location very close to black sands beach. We could hear & see the ocean from the lanai. Gorgeous views. Private backyard, although we were surprised one night with a group of people walking through the backyard which isn’t on a pathway. Guess they were enjoying the beautiful views too as seemed they were just walking whole perimeter of condominium property. Bed was super comfortable & shower is huge. Really nice place to stay. Views are amazing & we so enjoyed listening to the waves crash. Easy to check in too. Great stay!

We enjoyed a one week stay in this unit, a 2-bedroom, 1-bath condo. The owner has accented the home with nice touches, including art and cut flowers in the living room and dining room. It has a nice sized living room and dining room. The bedroom is large, with an on suite which is shared with the rest of the unit. The bed is very comfortable. The kitchen is small, and needs some item replacement, such as a mixing bowl set, a properly working can opener, enough matching glassware for more than two people, and a sharp knife set would be helpful.More lighting in the living room is needed. Perhaps 3-way bulbs in the lamps at both ends of the sofa, to make reading easier. I would love to see a larger television, sitting on top of the cabinet housing the current one.We loved the secluded, private lanai. It overlooks the former golf course and has a good view of the ocean, in the distance. The lanai area is fully under a new, expanded cover.

My husband, two kids (ages 10 & 7), and I stayed for three nights/four days here. The unit had everything we could want for the stay: the beds were comfy, the towels plush, the kitchen stocked with the utensils/pans we needed to eat in. The view from the unit was breathtaking! And the stars!! We have never seen the stars as clearly as we did staying here. Jeff was very prompt with all communications and the check in and out process was super easy. We were so happy with our decision to stay near South Point because we were no more than 30 mins drive from the beaches and the national park (which were basically the only things we wanted to see). Mahalo, Jeff, for your hospitality!
