The very close by Siuslaw River rises in the mountains of southwestern Lane County, about 10 miles west of Cottage Grove. It flows generally west-northwest through the mountains, past Swisshome, entering the Pacific at Florence. The head of tide is 26 miles upstream.
It is part of the homeland of the Siuslaw people, after whom it is named.
The valley of the river has been one of the productive timber regions in Oregon. The lower course of the river passes through Siuslaw National Forest.
The Coos Bay branch of the Coos Bay Rail Link crosses many bridges as it follows the narrow, winding valley of the Siuslaw River to the swing bridge at Cushman.
The river has historically been a spawning ground for Chinook and coho salmon. Although the Chinook population is substantial, coho numbers have declined from an annual average of 209,000 fish between 1889 and 1896 to just over 3,000 fish between 1990 and 1995. The estuary of the river is surrounded by extensive wetlands that are a significant habitat for migratory birds along the coast. It is one of the very few Western Oregon rivers where all major forks are undammed.
What’s nearby:
The charming historic Old Town section of the city
is filled with lovely shops, cafes, galleries, and restaurants.
A quick drive to many local attractions such as the Oregon Dunes and
beaches, The famous Sea Lion caves, The historic Heceta Lighthouse, nearby Woahink and Siltcoos Lakes for fishing, boating, kayaking or swimming. You will also be minutes from numerous trailheads for hiking or mountain biking. The
coastal forests flourishing in Douglas fir and Sitka spruce extend nearly to the Ocean.
Some trails wind up, over, and through sand dunes, offering hikers the opportunity to
experience the unique natural wonders of this area. Paddle the slow moving 3 mile designated canoe trail between Siltcoos Lake and the Pacific Ocean.Take a scenic drive up Hwy 101 to Heceta Head Lighthouse where free tours are
offered daily.
Get your adrenalin flowing on a nearby dune buggy tour or with an ATV rental, or go crabbing from the Siuslaw Bay public fishing pier at the end of South Jetty road
where crabbing is excellent from late spring until the fresh water from winter rains force
the crabs out to the ocean.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Condo was clean and had everything we needed. Loved walking to Bay St. shops and restaurants!
Very nice
This unit was super comfy for our family and was in a great location.
We had an excellent stay. Property was so close to downtown we loved being able to walk to restaurants and the shops downtown. Clean and comfortable, and had all of the needed amenities. A few stains/spots on the carpets, but otherwise appeared quite clean. Would definitely stay here again!
Perfect for our two nights fishing in the area. Easy access to Old Town Florence, restaurants and shops. Clean and comfortable.
This townhome was close to downtown and equipped with everything you need.
Nice place to stay. Great location.
Great location for shopping, restaurants. Place was excellent and we will definitely rent here again.
What a beautiful home with everything a family would need to have a blessed time! So grateful to have found this place. They were great about helping us with questions and working and went the extra mile to help when I had misunderstood how to book things properly.
Perfect location, great condo furnished with everything we needed and the bed was so so comfortable. We definitely recommend this place!
Great location. Great property. We had 5 in our group and it accommodated us nicely.
Property itself as advertised. Neat, well appointed and close to downtown. Very unhappy with fact that when we arrived at 4 PM checkin for two day stay, key was not in lockbox. Called owner who called manager who contacted cleaning person ... who arrived 35 minutes later and told us no one told her it was a 'back-to-back rental and she guess(ed) she should have left the key in the box. The large blinds covering the windows in the Master Bedroom and Living Room would not close. Owner sent mainenance over next day to fix, saying it was easy. Apparently not easy enough for cleaning person to lower them either. Also, oven door would not close at all, so glad we weren't using it. And Master Bath toilet inards were such that they noisly ran for a full minute after flushing. Owner did not fix that. When we suggested that a slight recompense might be in order for our inconveniences, owner said recompensing for 35 minutes just isn't possible, as if sitting in the parking lot for that time and putting up with the unworkable blinds, uncloseable oven door, and noisy toilet was us just being unreasonable. You be the judge.
Great short stay with my family. Loved the location. The property was clean, convenient and comfortable. Will be back!
Very comfortable and convenient to all things in Bay Front
This place was easy to find, a short walk to cute downtown shops and restaurants, the bridge and water front. The family living room, dining area and kitchen were quite small, but we spent most of our days away sight seeing and didn’t mind it too much. Comfortable beds
Had everything we needed and was very clean and cozy. Thank you.
