REVIEWS:

May 2021 - Amanda - This place was perfect for our family. The ocean view and yard were perfect for adults and kids to enjoy! Bird watching out the back was spectacular. The kitchen is well equipped and we made all of our meals. We bought food in Kona and brought it with. The nearby black sands beach was dreamy! The kids played and snorkeled with sea turtles, eels, and rainbow colored fish...the sea was a little rough, so the kids wore life vests and dad was nearby. Julie was very responsive and had excellent communication. The pool and bbq area are nice. During the pandemic, you must reserve a time to go to the common areas. This was nice because the common areas were never crowded. Also, we were always able to reserve the time we wanted without a problem. All in all, it is a very quiet and relaxing place to stay. We really loved it!

Ok so first the positives. It is a very cute place within walking distance to the Black Sand Beach. It is in a quite rental community and there really is value for the money as there are limited options on that side of the Island. The views from the back porch are beautiful. The listing was very clear that it was very small and had no AC but fans an a breeze from open sliding doors would be sufficient to cool the rental. In theory that was great. Now I understand living in a tropical environment attracts bugs and in the listing, they do tell you they spray frequently but we did see roaches. I understand we came at time where there was an unusual amount of rainfall but that was a bit off-putting. If that was the only issue they would have gotten a much higher review. However, to cool the unit you do in fact need to open the glass sliding doors and turn on a fan which is fine. The issue is however that there are holes in the screen doors-you can see where someone put masking tape and bugs come into the unit. They were crawling all over us while sleeping. We gave up and turned on a light at the entrance to try to drawl them away so we could sleep peacefully. By morning there were dead bugs in the bathroom, by the bed and all over the stairs. There were so many that they were nearly a full dustpan full of dead bugs. We did tell the host and sent videos showing the bugs so they could perhaps resolve the issue for the next guest but we never heard back

The size was a little small for 4 people. We weren’t there long so we managed. Available Parking spots were not easy to get near the condo. Also I was missed that there were stairs in the condo. The location was a bit of a drive to some sites. The condo property was landscaped very nicely and was very close to the ocean, Black Sand & a delicious bakery.

The location of this unit is very private and quiet -- great little lawn with hose to wash off sand and feet before entering unit. Ocean view. I would def. stay here again!

Our stay at the turtle hut condo was magnificent. The location of the unit is well positioned as a home base for drives to the volcano and drive to Kona/Capitan cook for day trips. The walk to punalu'u beach is easy and the beach is stunning. The unit is well equipped with cooking supplies, just make sure to bring groceries from Kona or Hilo beforehand. The unit's pool has a great view and bbq area! The bed was firm and comfortable. As expected in a tropical area there are some bugs so make sure to use the screen doors when opening the doors! The host provided clear instructions on check in and check out and she was very responsive to questions.

Clean unit, Old Hawaii style complex, grounds are well kept with pretty flowers and palms, coastal ocean view from this units ground floor lanai...pool has coastal view too. Feels private most of the time.Unit has 2 units above and one on side...if your neighbors are noisy at night you are going to hear them...needs some kind of sound deadening for the ceiling.

You have to go down a flight of steps to enter the condo which could be a challenge carrying luggage. The internet did not work until Julie came to the rescue with the updated Wi-Fi information. Thank you again Julie! The condo was small, but conveniently located and adequately equipped.

The good: great spot for bird watching, the complex is well maintained with pretty gardens, staff onsite (although not affiliated with this booking) are very friendly and helpful. The unfortunate: was given an incorrect code for the front door, was given incorrect information for the internet, sound transfer from the upper unit is significant, there is a large population of unhoused people living on the beach/ green space between this complex and the shoreline and we weren’t sure about overall security. Also, this unit is on the basement floor in a tropical area, so expect insects.

The condo itself the pool area and the property we enjoyed but this location is very isolated from everything, 15min drive to closest town. I was not aware that the condos here was literally the only thing around but the beach. Not bad for a short stay but be prepared with everything you need for a few days before you go.
