The Location:
Bolter Farm & Chalet offers year-round accommodation in the heart of the Kootenays, an area celebrated for its four distinct seasons, each of which bring unique world-class recreational opportunities to our doorstep -- from the epic slopes of Fernie Alpine Resort to renowned golf courses of all sizes and styles.
The Trans Canada Biking Trail , only minutes from the Chalet, is just one example of the vast networks of hiking and biking trails found throughout the area. The nearby Elk Valley, Bull and Wigwam Rivers are a world-class fly-fishing mecca, while Lake Koocanusa, a short 10-minute walk from our chalet, offers some of the best swimming, fishing, boating and summer-time recreation to be found. And if you’re into quiet mountain lakes, we can point you in that direction too. Suzanne Lake and Northstar Lake Recreation Sites are a short 15-minute drive away and offer great fishing, picnicking and swimming. While nearby Rosen Lake and Tie Lake are fun for boating! The Kootenays are also a premier destination for canoeing and kayaking, whether you’re looking for calm waters or roaring rapids.

Beautiful home and setting. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating.
We had a wonderful time at the chalet! Astrid and Mathias were attentive hosts, and such a nice touch with the farm welcome package. The chalet was well stocked and having the seperate living space for additional people in the basement suite worked great with our group. The wrap around deck was lovely for relaxing in the shade in the afternoon and sharing an evening overlooking the forest and watching the sunset. Ample parks and beaches to enjoy within a 10 min drive and the farmers market on Saturday was a treat. We would love to stay again!
The cabin is clean, looks new and very well built. During our stay a few days the weather was hot but inside the cabin it was nice and cool. During the night the temperature dropped but inside it stayed warm and cozy. It has everything you need for stay and the large patio allowed us to watch sunsets while BBQ was grilling. Our hosts are very accommodating and responsive. Overall, we loved the place and definitely will come back again while in Kootenays.
The home had all we needed, was comfortable and welcoming. Loved the welcome package and other meat we purchased. Only disappointment was that there was no longer public access to the lake within walking distance, otherwise a lovely stay.
Our stay was excellent, both the property and the accommodations exceeded our expectations. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted, we were provided with a dozen farm fresh eggs. The pantry was stocked with all the essentials in case we forgot something. We would highly recommend this property to any of our family and friends.
Wonderful location for a family get together and the hosting family is very friendly.
Stayed for three nights, mid week. Only rented upstairs. Place is very clean and well kept. Doesn’t lack anything. WiFi works fine but no connection to TV. Everything you could need is provided in the kitchen. Super great plus was we were treated to farm fresh eggs and beef! Communication was simple and Astrid is super friendly and accommodating! Definitely would return
This is an absolutely beautiful cabin! A definite 10/10! It’s warm and cozy for all family types, it has everything you need to make it feel like a home. We loved it and look forward to coming back next year. Trust me when I say this cabin is second to none.
Beautiful clean chalet in quiet location with amazing views over mountains. Loved every moment of our weeks stay, from watching deer in the woods whilst having breakfast on our balcony to amazing starry nights. Would definitely recommend. Thank you Astrid and Matthias for your kind hospitality.
Such a beautiful property, the perfect get away. We enjoyed plenty of space for 2 couples loved the European feel of the chalet, aswell as the peaceful farm vibes of the chickens, cows and deer. The hosts were friendly and communicative aswell as accommodating. Lovely place, would definitely recommend.
We loved staying at this cabin which was even better than it looked in the pictures. The location felt very “off the beaten path” but was also near enough to a great beach. I would bring supplies ahead of time though. Also, having the farm animals nearby was a fun and unique part of the experience. The hosts were friendly and responsive. Overall great place. Would love to stay there again.
I’ll start by saying we did enjoy our vacation, but this chalet was a little different from what we expected. There were 5 of us so one of the bedrooms upstairs was locked. My parents had the upstairs room and my husband and I had the downstairs room with the kitchenette next to our daughter in the twin. Downstairs had a HUGE fruit fly problem. We were provided with fruit traps and denture cleaning solution in cups to try and mitigate the problem but it was excessive. We did not have any relief from the problem during our stay. The ‘kitchenette’ downstairs does not have a fridge, any dishes or cutlery and the power cord from the microwave is not long enough to plug it in. The upstairs and downstairs are separate and both accessible from outside only. Some of the furniture inside was a little old/tired. There was a very very stained white couch covered by a blanket. The owner required to enter the property to do laundry once during our one week stay. Not a huge problem but we didn’t expect it. The owners were very pleasant but not always the easiest to get hold of. The walk to Lake Koocanusa takes you into a RV park. There’s no areas to picnic or swim from where you walk to. The farm does have amazing meat and eggs available for purchase and we enjoyed these greatly.
Charming little getaway!
Everyone in our group enjoyed our stay. The kids loved to visit the farm animals; the adults loved the nearby walks. Although the temperatures dropped below 0 throughout our 5 day stay, both floors of the home were comfortable with the wood stove. Great place to stay!
Had a great trip. Look to return
