West Yellowstone, Montana
Greetings from Montana:
My wife and I would like to invite you to use our rustic ‘ol west cabin as your vacation home while you explore the wonders of Yellowstone. Our cabin is on a tree-covered lot 'in town' but not 'uptown.' It is a comfortable short walk to the entire community. The cabin lot is shared with a one-room cabin with a queen bed and full bathroom (completely remodeled for 2020) that could be rented as well for an additional $75/night fee, and our current personal cabin that is only used by family or friends.
As an additional measure of security, there is motion sensor lighting outside. It is a Ring system light and records the outside area whenever there is motion. So if you have concerns about your vehicle or movement on the site during your stay, we can easily review the security recordings for you. But they are retained only for 30 days on the cloud.
So, why West Yellowstone and our Cabin
The cabin is a 5 room, one bath ...cozy, clean, private single-family residence that sleeps up to 5 guests comfortably. (Queen Bed in the bedroom, Queen LazyBoy sofa-bed, Bunk Beds in extra-wide hallway/corridor room). The cabin is located on a large tree covered lot with ample parking; within 5 blocks of the town’s many restaurants, shops, and attractions. It is ‘cost-friendly’ [the same low rental rates apply throughout the season]. Over the years we have made many upgrades, especially to the kitchen and bath, while trying to maintain the rustic charm. We recently replaced some furniture in the living room, including a recliner and a new queen size Lazy Boy sofa/bed. As the following check-list highlights, all the household and cooking basics are included. It’s nice to know; however, after a long day in the park, should the ‘cook’ decide ‘not to’… eating out is within easy walking distance of the cabin!
One of the special features of West Yellowstone [locals simply call it West] is Location, Location, Location. The entire Rocky Mountain Range has some spectacular scenery, wildlife viewing, and attractions. Yet, ‘West’, is truly special! It is surrounded on three sides by the Gallatin National Forest with Yellowstone National Park on its eastern boundary. As a gateway, you have access to features, attractions, and wildlife only found in the world’s first national park!!
--The largest concentration of thermal features in the world. [From the cabin, you are only 30 miles from Old Faithful Geyser]
--A wide array of wildlife, including, wolves, bears, and bison.[Don’t be surprised to see bison sharing the highway with you]
--The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone with its thundering falls and beautiful Yellowstone Lake, North America’s largest mountain lake. [August surface temperature is only 60 degrees F.]
--Road system that provides access to the park's major attractions and almost 1000 miles of backcountry trails to explore.
--A unique colorful history of exploration and adventure and a multitude of locations for peace, solitude, and reflection.
If this is not enough to fill your day, don’t forget you’re surrounded by the Gallatin National Forest with its own variety of attractions.
We hope you can share some time with us. In 1872, the park was created, in part, as a “pleasuring ground” and wildlife refuge. It continues to excite and inspire millions of visitors every year and is truly one of the world’s greatest destinations.
We stayed at the Pinecone Cabin for 5 nights mid-September while visiting YNP. IMHO, it is the best time to visit the park. The cabin was very conveniently located in town, though finding it after dark was tricky and is not well lit, inside or out. First off, I let them know of my concerns right after our stay, but had no response from them. This cabin could use some updates and maintenance, and for the price we paid for 5 nights, they could handle it. A new mattress in the main bedroom, plus new carpet are desperately needed. Do not book unless they say they have a new mattress. The “owners” say it’s their personal cabin. I don’t know how they sleep on it. This thing creaked and squeaked with the slightest movement, was lumpy and awful. After a long day of hiking and driving, I want to sleep comfortably. No joy. The kitchen was ok. It’s all older but serviceable. No DW. The bar counter was not secured to the wall. There were no spices at all, not even salt and pepper. For minimal cooking, you will be fine. Pots and pans were new. The washer and dryer were nice to have. Water was hot. Basically, the cabin needs a complete replacement of all soft goods, including carpet, bedding, bedspreads, and removal of dusty fake plants. It met our needs, but was not as comfortable as it should be.
Evertthing was great got a little warm at night a window in the main bedroom would help but all in all completly happy
We enjoyed this little cabin a ton, it worked for my GF and I along with 4 kids. A little tight with a full house but it had everything we needed. It was really close to town, and we had a fox in the yard one morning. I'd book there again if I got to go back to Yellowstone, for sure.
Nice family cabin close to the park entrance, stores, and restaurants. Kind of an odd layout to the cabin and needs a few upgrades, but overall is cozy and functional and the location was quiet. The tv was easy to get going which was nice, as well. We did wish there were a few cooking essentials like salt and pepper, oil, coffee, etc. to keep us from having to buy at the grocery store.
This is a very nice cabin very near the west entrance to Yellowstone. There is also a nice grocery store within a few blocks. The cabin provided everything we needed for our stay. Communication with the manager and owner were very good. We would stay there again!
The location to Yellowstone and downtown were perfect both were only about 10 minutes away. The cabin was very clean and had everything you needed. The outdoor area at the cabin wasn't as described if that is important to you, no place outside to relax, rusty grill but with that being said and knowing that now I would still go back.
Quaint. Clean. Bigger than I expected. This cabin is in town and walking distance to shops and restaurants. It is nestled in between other properties as is everything in West Yellowstone. However, this property is quiet and roomy. It is a couple of miles from the Yellowstone entrance. A couple of miles away this the BEST horse back riding at Diamond P Ranch. This property is well cared for, and a prime location for all you Yellowstone exploration. Can’t say enough good things about this gem.
Wonderful little cabin in the heart of West Yellowstone. Easy access and great communication. Perfect location to everything you need including the park. It was the perfect choice for our (me and my wife) 9 day stay.
Pretty good
So very convenient to the park. Very nice washer/dryer. Kitchen stocked with all equipment needed for our stay. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Great location, quiet but near restaurants & shops. Cabin had everything we needed. The only suggestion I have is to think about possibly adding a grab bar by the shower, my husband slipped & fell getting out.
Easy access to cabin, great location.
Clean, quiet and cozy cabin within walking distance to shopping and very close to the park entrance. We very much enjoyed our stay.
Thank you for a relaxing stay in West Yellowstone. We loved being so close to dining, shopping and the west entrance of the park. The cabin’s spacious living room with a comfy recliner and sofa was welcome after a long day of hiking and exploring in the park. Being able to do laundry was also a big plus. Thanks!
Plenty of space for both of us. The kitchen is well appointed and bathroom is updated. A very comfortable place exceptionally close to West Park Entrance to Yellowstone. Would recommend this for a Yellowstone visit.
The property was as advertised and is very close to Yellowstone's western entrance. It is also very close to the downtown area, so you can walk if you want to. The washer and dryer were a Godsend. We were out west for 2 weeks, and since we flew being able to wash during our stay was wonderful. The only problem we ran into was that it was a bit warm in the cabin. There was a box fan to use, but we had it in the living room to help circulate the air in there for our girls. The rooms where our son slept and where we slept were not situated where they could take advantage of the air flow. There should probably be at least one more fan in the place in late summer, just in case.
The property came as advertised and is very close to the Yellowstone National Park entrance as well as the downtown area, so that was a big plus. Our only negative was that it was a bit warm in the cabin, and only one box fan was available to circulate the air at night. We were offered a second fan but did not receive it.
Our family loved using this cabin as our home base and launch pad to explore Yellowstone National Park!
Only recommend sugar packets for coffee.
We found the property surprisingly quiet for its location on US 20. Roger was quick to have his motel's maintenance crew give the grounds a post-winter cleanup, as well as to address issues with the cabin's heat. Overall, a very pleasant experience.
We arrived the day Yellowstone closed. It was a major shock and disappointment but despite not getting to Yellowstone, we had a WONDERFUL time! There was significant flooding on the way down but we were able to easily get in touch with the property manager to ensure the cabin was in a flood free zone. The cabin was exactly as expected from the description. Nothing fancy but clean, comfortable, and great location. Since Yellowstone was closed we drove down to the Tetons one day and also had a fantastic day exploring Targhee National Forest! Mesa Falls should not be missed! Truly a gem of a park with breathtaking views. We also walked along Big Spring Interpretive Trail which was beautiful and we saw a Moose! Overall, wonderful stay!
My wife and I stayed for 3 nights while visiting Yellowstone NP. Close to restaurants, gas stations, and the west entrance. Plenty of room. Couldn't get the fireplace in the kitchen/bathroom area to turn on and it was chilly overnight, but was not a big deal since there were heaters in the other rooms.
Door code sent to us was incorrect. Once the property manager Brian was aware of this he came over promptly with a working code. Cabin was clean and comfortable.
