The Space

This 'tiny house' has all the comforts of home contained within a s a 400 sf off the grid mobile cabin on approximately 10 private acres with spectacular mountain views, lavender fields, oak woodlands and a seasonal creek.

Electricity is provided entirely by the sun from a 2k watt solar array with battery for nights and cloudy days. Water (potable) is provided to the tiny house from a private well. The stove, tankless hot water heater and furnace are fueled by propane. There is a window AC unit and ceiling fans (both fueled by the solar system) to keep cool on hotter days.

The full kitchen comes complete with an oven range, coffee pot, toaster, a microwave, blender, a full sized refrigerator, and is stocked with a complete set of pots and pans, knives, cooking utensils, plates, glasses, mugs, wineglasses and flatware etc. The living area and dining nook offer plenty of space for comfortable indoor living.

Outside on the deck you will find a brand new propane grill and outdoor patio table and chairs for outdoor dining along with a hammock for relaxing. A short walk to a clearing with Mountain views you will find 4 Adirondack chairs grouped around a propane fire pit for storytelling and stargazing. Another short walk away is a picnic table and a swing under a majestic oak.

The master bedroom has a queen bed, closets, and cabinets. There is an additional sleeping loft with two twin beds. The sleeping loft ceiling is 4 feet high, so you cannot stand up, but it is high enough for comfortable sleeping.

Take in the mountain views, birdwatch, picnic under the large oak tree, relax in the hammock, star gaze under the Milky Way, chat by the fireside, or skip stones in the seasonal stream within walking distance on the property.

The Surroundings

The home sits on a steep 20 acre parcel with the owner’s main house about a quarter mile up the driveway out of sight and earshot.

We are located about 2.5 miles up Tassajara Road from the Tassajara Road/ Carmel Valley Road intersection, about a 20 minute drive along a winding country road from the quaint Carmel Valley Village with fine dining, cafes, award winning wineries, art galleries, shops, gas, groceries, and other services. Carmel-by-the-Sea and it's beaches is another 25 minutes away (45 minutes total).

Monterey is about a one hour drive away and Andrew Molera State Beach at the north end of Big Sur is about 75 min drive away.

A few miles up Tassajara Road from our property are trailheads to the Los Padres National Forest and the backside of Ventana Wilderness with miles of hiking trails to explore. Further up Tassajara Road (about 14 miles total) is Tassajara Hot Springs. If you would like the adventure of driving a spectacular but very rugged mountain road and soaking in natural Japanese-style hot springs, then consider a day trip in the guest season (April - September). Please visit the San Francisco Zen Center website for more information about this resource. Shuttles are available about a half mile up the road from our gate.

The main home on the property is located about one-eighth of a mile further up the driveway, out of sight and ear shot of the tiny house.

Other Things to Note
Only AT&T wireless service is available at this property. There is no wifi or TV at this time. Parking is available right outside the cabin. Driveway is steep but paved.

What a wonderful place to stay. Views were amazing, tiny home was so sweet, location was perfect. Enjoyed day trips exploring Big Sur, Carmel By the Sea, Monterey, Carmel Valley Village and then relaxing evenings by the fire pit stargazing and enjoying the peace and quiet. Host was very responsive and tiny home was just as described.

What a stunning place to stargaze. Lovely home with everything you need. Great property for a stroll. And composting is possible by leaving any food scraps in a pot on the countertop. I couldn't ask for anything else!

I love this place! It's in the middle of nowhere. At night you will see the lights of a house faraway on another mountain. You might hear a car on the highway a mile away. Landscape is picturesque. Ideal for someone who wants to read, write, draw, or relax. I hope to return as a yearly internet-detoxing tradition. Tips: 1. arrive during the day. It's easy to miss the driveway in the dark. 2. your gps probably won't work. print directions to everywhere you want to go. 3. arrive with food. the nearest restaurant and market aren't close. 4. the driveway itself is a nice hike. Speaking of which, a previous reviewer complained about the driveway. I don't see what the big deal is. Yeah, it's narrow and windy, but so are the roads you need to take to get here. The long driveway is a gift that adds to the seclusion. Improvements: The host could improve our stay by providing printed directions to nearby spots, such as the market and hot springs.

Neat little cabin in great location with wildlife around. We loved the great horned owl who hooted every evening.

Lovely cottage with simple amenities and plenty of hiking, nature, and solitude to relax in. We stayed with family and everyone was comfortable. Everything worked well off grid on solar and gas. The entrance hill road is totally fine for any car unlike some comment about steep grade. Most of the SF streets are much steeper?. Plenty of wildlife and outdoor recreation around the property and in the area. This isn’t for groups who want to be next to stores, social life, and places to eat etc. We cooked our meals fine in a tiny kitchen and went to Carmel, Monterey, Big Sur coast as well.

My wife and I loved staying in the tiny house. The star gazing was amazing. We enjoyed a meteor shower, and appreciated the peace and quiet of the remote location.

This is my third time staying at the Tiny House. Wonderful experience. Clean, comfortable, beautiful views. Got to totally unplug for a week in this beautiful setting. My favorite part was the new Adirondack chairs clustered around a cozy fire pit. You can watch the sunset facing west, then enjoy a fire and the starry sky.
