A DREAM FOR THOSE WHO ENJOY NATURE AND WILDLIFE ALONG WITH THE WARM PEACE OF AN EVENING FIRESIDE! Stroll along an old railroad bed beside a babbling and pristine trout stream running along breathtaking mountain views. A one-of-a-kind property with more than 500 private acres containing many hillside trails for your exclusive enjoyment--many options for hiking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing or just wandering and wondering.

The flat open areas around the cabin and our full-size barn offer a variety of sites for your private events including weddings, reunions and corporate retreats. Horse stalls are available with both outside and inside shelter. And to get even further away, an extensive variety of open and wooded trails meander across and over the mountain for many miles. And we are just up the road from the north entrance to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon!

Sunsets bring on a sort of magnetism to our unmatched fire pit where many flames of debate have settled the differences of the past among friends. Of course, there is always another matter called to order for the next evening, or of course you can simply lean back, unwind, and find your answers in the stars...of which there are many! Very far from any neighbors, only the trees will hear your singing and tales, and they will pass along only a few whispers....

Inside the cabin, enjoy extensive hand-crafted woodwork and construction hewn from timbers on the property. Relax in front of a unique and inviting stone fireplace built from stones gathered from the property and surrounded by floor to ceiling windows. The fireplace rises from the center of the room with a cylindrical stack stretching up a two-story atrium and alongside a rustic spiral timber staircase. You won't want to leave this cabin...!

(Doors to the cabin and some out-buildings are monitored by exterior security cameras for protection of both you and us.)

(Make sure you are aware of advance notice requirement and fees for linens & towels, pets, total guests more than 10 or extra room.)

The property did not aupply sheets or towels even though i have an email that says they do. At 11pm when everyone went to bed we found a different email stating that that costs extra and isnt available without notice. Then the owner decided to keep my security deposit claiming that my dog damaged the sheets that he did not provide.

Our family had a wonderful stay! Joe was very accommodating and worked with us to make our stay the best possible! He even helped us out when we had trouble with the TV on out first night. The beds were very comfortable. I was so glad they were not box spring mattresses. This place is so much prettier in person. It snowed the whole time we were there & everything was covered in ice. But that didn't stop us from exploring the property & climbing the mountain. I might have fallen a few times, but it was worth it. Thanks for allowing us to stay at such a beautiful property. We look forward to coming back!

Clean - accommodations bedrooms were great, kitchen was very well stocked for the meals we needed to prepare. The house was so unique we were impressed by the amount of room we actually had.The bonus game room was a nice added feature. The best feature was the outside - trails for exploring, creek for fishing, and of course the fire pit.I think the only time we used the tv was to watch the Steelers play. This was truly a remarkable adventure.

What an amazing place! The kids loved it and we all had a great time around the fire. FYI, if it's warm outside, talk around the fire from the chairs, but if it's cool outside, the giant fire pit is actually a warm seat and a small fire will be all you need. The creek was a bit low in late August, but still beautiful, and the surrounding grounds were spacious to be sure. The pond is very nice, and though we didn't catch any fish, a very large one did bend the rod almost in half. The location is near the PA grand canyon and most other area attractions - no shortage of hiking opportunities. The fireplace inside was wonderful and kept the house perfectly warm on cool nights. Be prepared for some confusion when walking around upstairs since there is a lot of symmetry, but this is more entertainment than anything. The kids were over in the game room most of the time playing pool or foosball, leaving the adults with unexpected relaxation. There's a TV in there as well, but it barely got turned on. The only slight complaint is that route 6 is not terribly far away on the far side of the river, but it's almost dead after 6 or 7 pm, which is when we were most likely to be at the fire pit anyway. Overall, it was a great experience. Thank you to our hosts!!

We had a wonderful time during our stay! The Octagon was clean and spacious! This was the perfect home to relax and unwind! We enjoyed the game room. We had great star viewing each night on the deck. The large fire pit was perfect for s’mores! We enjoyed exploring the land; checking out the creek, trails, and pond area. Joe was very responsive with any questions we had leading up to our stay. Just a couple notes and why we didn’t give 5 stars- the rooms were a little less private due to gaps from where the top of the door meets the ceiling. There is no place to store clothing in the bedrooms. Some of the appliances were usable but could use some updating. Also, be careful when showering that no one flushes a toilet in the house- we discovered this stops the shower water and then it turns very hot. The trails were pretty overgrown so we didn’t go very far on the ones we tried to explore.

The farm is very private & our family enjoyed fishing in the pond & creek. We were visited daily by deer grazing in the corn field. Our family had a 5, 6, 8 & 2 year olds. The steps going up to the bedrooms are a bit challenging, all the grands except the 2 year old could use them. The outside steps were often used. The owner was easy to contact & very gracious in allowing us an extended stay due to car problems. Rebooking in the future is a strong possibility, may need to skip a year since an infant will be added in Sept.

The Octagon was a great venue for a Memorial Day Weekend trip of eight life-long friends. Our 47th year! The house was perfect sized and offering room to hang out inside as well as outside by the fire pit. We cooked three dinners and found the kitchen perfect for our needs. Very secluded and no fear of disturbing neighbors with music or yelling during horseshoes matches. The Tioga Golf Club was just minutes down the road and the bike trip down the Pine Creek Canyon was easy but beautiful. A great place.

Our family made some great lasting memories here. We all had such a great time. This was a really unique rental with many amenities. Between the game room and the property itself there was always something to do. Joe was easy to work with and responded to all my questions in a timely manner. He was very friendly and you could tell he genuinely wanted our family to have an enjoyable trip. Our family is looking forward to coming back again in the future.

The Octagon never disappoints! Joe and Maitland’s property is perfect for walking, hiking or sitting by the Pine Creek. The mountain trails and glorious Fall foliage bring peace to the soul. The upgraded facade, roof, and wood flooring add to the charm of the cabin and its welcoming atmosphere. We are already planning next year’s adventure.

The property is beautiful, many trails to be walked and the landscape is beautiful and a sight to behold. The house was beautiful and had everything you’d need to relax. Fire pit was huge and we enjoyed many nights around it. Close to many state parks and although weather was not cooperating much we did enjoy visiting the PA Grand Canyon!! Our last night we did see some stars but on a clear night I’m sure it would be spectacular! Our only down side was the circular staircase but there was a second set of steps outside that were easier to navigate. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

We absolutely loved our stay. This was our second time back on the property and it was beautiful to see all the upgrades they’ve been working on! The outdoor space is great- a short walk to the creek which was hours of fun for adults and kids alike, plenty of grass for kids to run and play or play a volleyball game, horeshoes or exploring in the woods. The place was clean and had ample kitchen supplies on hand. I would definitely recommend this place for a unique and great vacation experience.

Unforgettable offers a wide verity of outdoor adventure in one location … Our gang did it all … hiking, biking, fishing, tubing and ATV trail rides, There is also plenty of mowed grass for wiffleball, football and volleyball. All that followed by a great fire ring where we told tales about the “chainsaw ghost” of Gains Township (bring your own sound effects). The house was well equipped with a rustic touch that made the farm experience seem even more authentic. The game room was a hit, especially during a couple rainy evenings.
