Nederland, Colorado
Available November-June, flexible month to month or up to a nine month lease. 1895 rustic log studio cabin + a second tiny cabin in the historic mining town of Eldora, just above Nederland. To be clear, there aren't 2 bedrooms--just two cabins. We realize the price is high for two small rustic cabins. We let friends and colleagues stay there for free (we're teachers), and when we rent it out, it's really to pay the costs for the whole year. If it works for you, we really appreciate your abundance! The cabins have been beautifully re-done, but are cozy (378 square feet and 200 square feet with a small loft). The main cabin has a kitchen, futon bed/couch, and bathroom with clawfoot tub, and the tiny second cabin has a sleeping loft and no bathroom. There's a well for water, two wood burning stoves, and high efficiency wall heaters. Internet is great, but Verizon is a little spotty sometimes. The 505, a forest service road used primarily as a hiking trail, is a block away, and Hessie trailhead, entry to Indian Peaks Wilderness, is 1.5 miles away. County maintained roads, but I'd recommend a Subaru or 4-wheel drive in winter to get into the driveway, which becomes pretty high with snow.
We have a 5 rating on Airbnb.
This is perfect for folks who are comfortable outdoors, who don't need luxury beyond the basics plus the stunning beauty of the forest all around. Both cabins are studios, and there's a queen sized futon in the main cabin and two twin sized futons--one in the sleeping loft and one that rolls out on the ground floor--in the studio cabin. There's a pathway from one cabin to the other, up a few gradual stairs and past the three 200 year old Douglas Firs. This pathway is not lit (too much shade for solar lights), but there is a headlamp on the wall inside the front door. There's also a camping platform perfect for a two-person tent if there are more than three of you.
We are on county maintained roads, but a four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended in winter. The driveway has room for three cars if you play tetris. Lovely hiking (and wilderness camping access) is walking distance from the cabin.
Water is from a spring-fed well and is filtered and tested potable.
