East Tawas, Michigan
This adorable vintage cottage will take you back in time. Enjoy beautiful views of Lake Huron 300 feet from the cottage. Beach is only a short drive down the road. The interior is vintage and cozy. Guests have the entire cottage to themselves. We have a small fire pit and charcoal grill outside the cottage. We have a badminton net and supplies next to the cottage. Guests have access to our deck at the water along with hammock and picnic table. Host lives on site and is available whenever home to assist guests with their needs. The property has two other cottages and owners home. There are a lotof trees and not many neighbors. It's quiet and peaceful. We have many many bird species and lots of black squirrels and chipmunks to watch. Lake Huron is a short walk down the driveway for beautiful views. We have a picnic table and hammock at the water front for all guests to enjoy. Bring your bike and take a ride down Baldwin Resort Rd to Tawas Beach where you can take the bike lane all the way to the Tawas Point State Park or into town. This property sits on wooded sand dunes next to Lake Huron. It is rural and quiet. However, because it is next to the lake and in the woods we share our property with nature. We take every precaution to keep nature outside but this is a 1950's style cabin and sometimes nature comes in anyway. Wifi is functional but slow. Not recommended for streaming
Charming, rustic, cottage. Very clean. Would visit again.
Wifi seemed like it could handle one device at a time. Other than that, it was very nice.
Perfect little rustic cabin! Wish we could've stayed longer. Comfortable.
I had a great time at Tawas Bay, awesome to get away from the Southern summer heat and humidity. Got lost momentarily at first, but once you find the mermaid tail sign by the mailboxes, you’ll know where you are. The cabin is the second on the left. While it’s not right on the lake, you can see it through the trees. The host has a deck on her home on the property where you’re welcome to get a great view of the sunrise over the lake. The cabin itself matches what’s shown in the pictures. Plenty of books to read! Plenty of thrillers and romance novels on the bookshelves, if you’re into that. My attention span with reading is low, so I spent my down time reading all the kids books! The bed in the master bedroom is comfy, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well the electric stove cooks the food! You’re only a couple miles down the road from Tawas Point State Park for the beaches. There’s also a lighthouse there, but apparently it’s closed in 2023 due to restorations. A 20 minute drive north is Huron National Forest; lots of trails to choose from for hiking and or bike riding. I highly recommend visiting the Lumbermen’s Monument. The view from the sand dunes overlooking the AuSable River is mind blowing!! Overall a nice chill place to get away from the stresses of urban life!
Cute cabin, enjoyed our stay close to the Tawas State Park. Owners were very responsive to questions/concerns. Thank you!
Cute, rustic cabin. Love the open floor plan and the old windows, doors, beams. Has more amneties than listed. The property is on Lake Huron but the cabin sits down the driveway a ways. Really quiet area. GREAT hosts. Internet service was weak. If you want to really unplug and get off all screens for a bit- this is the place for you!
It had all we needed. Right on the water!
Nice little cottage for a weekend of relaxing.
Perfect little cottage getaway for my family. The lake view was beautiful! The owners are helpful, friendly, and quick to respond.
The summer cabin was perfect for a quiet trip for my husband and I! It’s within minutes of beaches and downtown Tawas. We brought our large dog with us and the yard in the back was large enough for her to play in. The sunrise views were gorgeous.
We rented the Summer Cabin for a mid week getaway. The location is perfect.....just a short ride to the State Park Beaches in Tawas and Oscoda. The hosts were super friendly and accommodating!! The cabin was exactly as described and listed. The hosts had stocked everything you could possibly need including a deck of cards, library, linens/towels and a stocked kitchen. Thanks so much for a great stay!!! We will be back to stay again!!
My 3 besties and me ( 2 peeps and my Newfy mix dog -Maggie) stay at the Mermaid cottage. It was difficult for me find, cause my gps kept putting me at a forest lot, but once Jennifer got on the cell with me, I arrived without a hitch. The cottage has a charming rustic decor. The vaulted ceiling creates spaciousness. One of the two bedrooms has separate twin beds. The other bedroom a full bed. We were all comfortable including Maggie.. The bathroom sets between the 2 bedrooms with excess doors to each room. Theres a bathtub but no shower head, but the shower hose works okay enough and the bathtub is shallow so no big step over. The cottage is very clean with all the conveniences of home ( fridge a little rusty inside but works well ).There is no AC, but plenty of windows to open and individual fans to keep the air moving. Jennifer was very nice and so good about my bringing a dog. There is a little back yard behind the cottage to walk the poochy or take up the drive to the road which as a wide bike bath. Also there is an outside hose, so if your dog likes running on the beach, or maybe you do to, there is a hose to spray off the sand. The walk down the driveway from the cottage to the lake is very short. The view spectacular especially at sunrise. It's a very rocky boulder seawall coastline, with a lower deck that you maybe could go fishing off but no beach. The cottage complex has communal volleyball nets set ups and a picnic table by lakeside. Each cottage has a small fire pit for use and a couple of chairs. The surroundings are woodsy and full of nature's pets..like deer, squirrels and chipmunks and insects. The location is within 2-3 miles of Point Park, downtown Tawas and other attractions. It's a great place to stay for a reasonable cost ( at least it is for 2022) we are certainly going to come back next year and stay at the Mermaid Cottages! One note...bring extra towels, pillows for more comfort, maybe another blanket for cool nites and insect repellent...the biting flies and mosquitos are hungry!
Rustic with everything we needed.
